Why could'nt it be all out air operation, drop in from the skies and evact from the skies. They could have set a perimeter with little birds and pick up aidid and his men with a blackhawk.
They might not have had the amount of helicopters needed for that and that would have also required the blackhawks to land for a longer amount of time. Also they wouldn't have had any real contingency plan in place if a blackhawk had gotten shot down. If they just dropped in with little birds there wouldn't be anyone outside the building making sure no one tried to escape or come in and fight the assault teams. Plus it's quicker to just go straight down and not have to turn around and head back

Thats obviouse, evacuating a shot down helcopter with another helicopter would just endanger therescue helicopter. Men are smaller targets and can move in between buildings where as a huge-ass black hawk just acts as a 'barn-door' like target that could easily be shot down. Aswell as this as they said there are civilians in the square and a rapid areal assault would indanger them loosing local alliances that the millitary need to operate. With abit of thinking its quiet obviouse why not!!!

@34socom, um, yeah, there is. Type in "Diver (12D)" in the goarmy.com search engine or just type in in here on Youtube. Either way, you'll find out that there is U.S. Army Divers. I'm in a U.S. Diver J-ROTC for the U.S. Military, and my step father is a Diver in the Iowa National Guard. The U.S. Army does have divers.

@amagous actually, The U.S and the UK are the two main components of the current middle eastern efforts, the main military operations are from the two, the bases currently established are from them, and ran by them, even the bulk of the damage, was sadly produced by them.
It isnt correct to ignore the other elements, or what parts they played, important or otherwise, but you cant say they did more than those two countries.

They might not have had the amount of helicopters needed for that and that would have also required the blackhawks to land for a longer amount of time. Also they wouldn't have had any real contingency plan in place if a blackhawk had gotten shot down. If they just dropped in with little birds there wouldn't be anyone outside the building making sure no one tried to escape or come in and fight the assault teams. Plus it's quicker to just go straight down and not have to turn around and head back

Thats obviouse, evacuating a shot down helcopter with another helicopter would just endanger therescue helicopter. Men are smaller targets and can move in between buildings where as a huge-ass black hawk just acts as a 'barn-door' like target that could easily be shot down. Aswell as this as they said there are civilians in the square and a rapid areal assault would indanger them loosing local alliances that the millitary need to operate. With abit of thinking its quiet obviouse why not!!!

It was a mission that undertook problems and men were lost, if you look at the casulty count the Americans lost very few in comparison, calling it stupid is just degreding the fact that these men laid down their lives not only for what they belived in, but also for their friends.

Great video, great band. The men responsible for the slaughter were BIll Clinton and then Secretary of Defense Les Aspin-more the latter. Aspin specifically denied armor and air support because they thought them "not discreet enough". Bullshit. Aspin has their blood on hi hands, not the UN. Mike Durant makes this clear in his book, Blackhawk Down. It was a STUPID mission.
