This was about the time old Ernest started flopping on the Douglas family so when Timmy Considine left the show they could slid the little gink right into the show...
Nice to hear the end credits not sped up and time compressed. This is a great show. I have it complete on a set of grey area dvd's taped from tv since CBS took to long to release it and those half a season dvd's are stupid. Yes, shows used to have 39 episodes in one season people! Thanks for sharing this with us.
I was trying to figure out what year this was from by the opening credits. When I saw Tim Considine's name, I knew it was 1965. This was from the very first color episode they ever made. It could have been Tim's name in the credits if he hadn't have left after this episode. I have never heard Don's name in a voiceover before - interesting clip.
@millenniumman75 I saw an episode of "My Three Sons" in black and white with Rob's girl friend Katy. I saw this on tv at the school where i went to highschool and the teacher thought it should be in color since Katy was on there.
@britfrenir I think Tina Cole did appear on a black and white episode of the show, but not as Katie, but another character. She would not be on the show as a regular until 1967.
I LOVE the LEADER stuff! With that "mystery lady" that changed every decade or so - ya gotta freeze the frame between the 4 and the 3 (usually) to see her - they insert her amidst the numeric countdown, for a nanosecond, I have no idea what she is there for, color registration maybe? In this video, it is on or around 12 or 14 seconds in. She fascinates me. Years later, she was replaced by a Mod.
This was a lot of fun to watch. It reminds me of how much fun TV used to be. In the days before the current television landscape was littered with a lot of mindless garbage. We need more programs like this more than ever before. I know it will be awhile before the color seasons of MTS start coming out on DVD. They are up to season one, at the present time. I could watch a marathon of this for hours at a time any old day of the week.
Thanks for sharing! It's cool to look at the crew, lots of people who worked on Lucy shows are on the credits since MTS was filmed at Desilu, sure miss the good old days
About 7 I believe more episodes into THIS season...the closing music ROX. The tempo picks up! I also didnt have a clus that 'Mike' aka Tim Considine was even shown??? Never saw him on this? Somone has to show me the FULL ep of this, because from what I understand, this ep was a hour long??
"china girl" is the term I've heard the most about the woman in the middle of countdown leader ... not a woman of Chinese origin, but a clip of an attractive woman used by film processors to ensure that colors - such as skin tones - are being accurately duplicated.
This appears to be Color episode 1 of the first year on CBS, the '65-66 season opener when Mike and Sally get married and leave the show. In syndication, the opening credits for this episode seem to add " and Don Grady...." as an afterthought, as you can tell here. Great closing theme version also, and the Viacom without audio is a bit odd.
Jed - I just took a look at the beginning of the film ... it says 'My Three Son [sic] #1679 - "First Marriage"' From what I could tell by Googling you are correct! Good work.
I just uploaded another version of the intro, for this SAME episode! Why are there 2 openings tied to this episode ("The First Marriage")? I had this on an old VHS tape from the 90's...syndication has many mysteries!
Weird that the "pinball"-era Viacom logo at the end doesn't have it's signature "pinball" music, just a straight 600 Hz (or thereabouts) tone. I wonder if the music for the logo was to be added later (the tone being a placeholder of sorts)?
This is the first color episode and first episode to be shown on CBS. It is the
last episode to feature Tim Considine as Mike and Meridith MacRae as Sally.

@Aeolis7 - that would be a 'china girl.' Usually in leaders of films so the lab folks could tell if they had their colors done correctly.

Check out the woman that flashes for a half-a-second at 0:13.

@coloradoryan Good question. I only have what you see here as 16mm film, of course.

Why do they sometimes put pretty girls in the middle of the countdown? This isn't the first time I've seen it.
By the way, 16MM is the best way to see old shows! Scratches and cue marks add to the charm.

I always used to wonder that same thing when we'd see films in school. Most all of the films we saw had an image of a woman/girl in them.

I did some Googling and found a reference that said that the 600hz tone was a 'cue tone' - so your placeholder assumption is correct.
