Personally, I think that Box Car Racer is more punk and Plus 44 more pop rock- this is why I enjoy Box Car Racer more than my girlfriend, who enjoys Plus 44 a lot more. Our tastes differ like that.

Dude Ranch, Enema of the State, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket showed a gradual decline in the number of songs where strictly Mark would sing the entirety of the song. On the last CD, Blink 182, Mark has very, very few songs (Go and Stockholm Syndrome are good examples) - The upside is the harmony between Mark and Tom (fucking amazing!) but the downside was Tom taking control, causing tensions. Ah well, Plus 44 is great, though I am more into Box Car Racer.

Speaking from personal experience, there are a lot of politics in bands that can cause them to break up. Prime example would be The Beatles (don't know if anyone here has heard of them but they are pretty good).

Anyways, my basis for the argument that internal politics caused the band to break up was that Tom eventually took the spotlight; as each CD progressed, Mark went more and more of the back-burner:

I know they use autotune to an extent on their newer CDs but I can tell from earlier recordings that Tom could sing, albeit not the best but still more than adequate for what they were playing. Listen to tracks off of Buddha for prime examples. Dude Ranch is my all time favorite album though.

Listen: If I were there when they were/are playing live, I would be singing, jumping etc. I know all their songs by heart, including unreleased early tracks like "Transvestite" and "Dancing With Myself (cover)"

However, I don't think you or I can deny the objective OBSERVATIONS made about Tom. I mean, just because they edit his voice on CD recordings does not make his lyrics less awesome (he has amazing lyrics. That's what I love about a lot of their songs!) In fact, I love them!
