I got one of these made by Peterson Manufacturing. They are good little lights, at least in my opinion and mine has their standard bulb which is shockingly visible.
the reason the light output is poor because it uses a 5watt bulb, plus its nit focused to the reflector, the bulb site too low. makes the light angle way downward. i modified one of these (with the older metal reflector) to actually be usefull in day with a 55 watt halogen bulb
Yep, since I posted I threw in a 45w bulb and a newer STL mirror, now it's at least 3 times brighter and the lights a bit more focused. You can get these very cheap but make them pretty nice for not much. Uberaoshi, I tried finding the site I got it from but it doesn't appear to be up anymore, I'll post if I can find one online.
I remember these. They used to be available at Western Auto, Grandpa Pigeons and Target. I put a high intensity Halogen bulb in mine and it melted the plastic insides and the dome and destroyed it. More like a novelty but still fun.
Wouldn't say it's quite novelty, outdated and underpowered maybe, but I still like to use it instead of the LED's now and then. Its not like a party light, its designed to be permanently mounted and is built surprisingly sturdy.
Funny you mentioned your experience because that's precisely what I did, and mine melted too. But it was so CHEAP I figured it would melt after a short period. I already had a couple REAL rotating lights at the time so I didn't care. I just wanted to see what this POS was capable of. Basically it's just *okay* for night time use but I would never seriously use this light during the day (at least without modifying it). If that were the case I'd just buy a real light.
