If someone is instructing you its best to learn all you can from every angle, because not all people learn the same, thats why you hear the term "do's and dont's" in a particular subject. unfortunately you do have to tell some people what NOT to do.

Pipe down :P I ride both western and english and I USED to ride JUST LIKE THAT! But keep in mind i'm completely self tought w/ only 3yrs of rideing. Who cares what the effin tack looks like dammit! There are right and wrogn way's to ride ANY horse and EVERY horse is different! Point is read your horses and let your horses read you. Are you seasoned riders going to let a self tought 16yr old girl make you like 2yrs old? Grow up now c'mon.

@cowgirly122 I'm aware of that. And that is what I implied in what I said. Ride how you want with your horse and that's that. You don't need people telling other people how one style of riding is better than another. The only thing people should be worried about is how they like to ride and how their horse responds and building that relationship with their horse. Simple.

@116jewel - Yes, your absolutely right - I have only been riding classical dressage for forty years, so I suppose I don't know what I'm talking about, how silly of me. BTW I have seen many western riders in my time who ride beautifully -and in sympathy with the horse - this guy just isn't one of them. I think perhaps you are confusing competition success with real mastery of riding, which are not necessarily the same thing. Look at Anky Van Grunsven. wins loads - rides HORRIBLY!!

dressage = the horse does everything because the rider isn't smart enough? dressage (done right) is probably the most difficult and challenging discipline any horse and rider team can undergo. in terms of complication, depth, and precision, it supercedes any one Western or English sport by miles. I have no interest in dressage, but I have enormous respect for anyone who performs it properly. there should be no battle between English and Western in the world of horsemanship.

@neenee1997 i agree that this is a video of how not to ride and @Jinete789 was in the wrong to criticize if they dont know what theyre talking about but dressage requires more patience then western in most cases and the rider has to be able to think and train the horse to collect itself or do other movements western discipline horses couldnt even dream of. and to ride english you have to have a very strong and deep seat. ride english before you try to make western so much harder.
