well I must say, there are some situations that a comeback is impossible, example in MVC3 when a player got storm with 5 Hyper Combo Bars X-Factor Level one on the corner and the other got 3 characters with 20% of life but no x-factor, the player who got storm just needs to use ice storm to kill the first character and use it again to kill the others when they are coming to the screen, there's no way to reach storm to stop the attack and even blocking the ice storm will kill the characters
