This documentary is slightly misinformed. Originally, the crust that got blasted off formed 2 moons. One bigger than the other. Many years later, the 2 moon slowly merged (they crashed into each other) to form the current day moon, hence the moon have a smooth and rough side.

@CodePZ actually thats just a theory. same as the earths twin theory neither one has been proven so this documentary cant possibly be accurate... all it is is a possible theory. they beleive that the earth had two moons as you said because it has one smooth side and one rough side but for all we know it could just be an unlucky side that got hit a lot more
