@2mek8 Its to replace the F-16, and does so, plus also compliment the f-18 superhornets. Which are considereed for Thrust Vectoring. Not to big of an upgrade in Military standards.

Such a conflict is unlikely however as the US has a far superior nuclear arsenal and a triad of systems to deliver them.

I have a hard time understanding exactly how the F-35B's will be able to take off from LHD's. I reckon these F-35B's aren't armed with any type of armament and they look like they're having a tough time getting off that deck. How will they be able to give CAS to troops barely without any armament at all and lacking a internal canon?

I wish they built F-35D. My vision of F-35D would be two seat, two engine, better newer wing design to turn maneuverable, almost same height as F-22, able to carry 8 AAM, more upgrade on avionics, more radar system protection from enemy missiles, and have the same turbo pitch like F-22.

No, the F-35 does not feature vecoring thrust, in any of the three models. STVOL does not mean thrust vecorting in the case of the B model.
