Cromwell was the devil...he deserved to be killed by a inexperienced boy of 16. Took 4 blows to severe his head and his eyes were pecked by birds at the Tower. Serves him right for playing Judas.
I do think that there was much anger over the soaking of the people to have an opulent Rome & Vatican at least by the King. The jealousy over the money pouring out of England to Rome which was not benefiting England & her desire to raise armies in struggles against Catholic France. During the Crusades, the RCC got used to money pouring into their coffers. With the Crusades over, why should this continue? Anyone woman who survived the black death became a reason for a witch trial by the RCC too.
@courag1 The monasteries deserved what they got from this point of view: Constantinople fell to the Turks in 1453 and thereby all Greek Orthodox churches were either destroyed or made into Mosques. The Catholics did not help not even one inch...NADA. So this 'dissolution of the monasteries' is a just revenge against the destruction of the Eastern Orthodox faith and churches. Serves them right.
@ekateri28 The history of the RCC is dipped in the blood of countless martyrs who it killed and dismembered and tortured to death.
None of this has anything to do with Jesus Christ. To replace Eastern Orthodoxy with Islam is no mercy whatsoever. Only God has the right to say what is right, not man.
Popes are not infallible. If they are, you must be out kissing a Koran now and worshiping Shiva on an altar at home. RCC is anti-christ. There is no way it is a True church.
@courag1 The percentage of Catholic priests who have molested children is less than the percentage of non-Catholics who have molested children. The media however makes a bigger deal about it when a Catholic priest does something like that.
I agree, however, that it's worse when a Catholic priest sins ... because priests should be held to higher standards.
@ekateri28 The Eastern Orthodoxy preserved the Received text. They didn't all die, they fled to the West with their Bible from which it was translated into modern languages. It was the Received text that Martin Luther translated and brought a sitting pope to the shame he deserved.
People don't read, they don't care who gets killed, so long as it isn't them.
Intelligent people don't want the same crap all over again.
John Schofield's "Rise and Fall of Thomas Cromwell: Henry VIII's Most Faithful Minister" is a far superior, far more revealing and much more even handed appraisal of Cromwell's carreer. Schama is just spouting reactionary shite about the great man.
thank you for upload...your channel is very interesting.pity that there are not enough movies made about the same era in continental Europe.I would sure be interested in Charles V.
massive lol at the ending; 'had been twisted into a carnival of unholy, traitorous sex.' he's fierce

The setimentality that colors this documentary that tries to give itself the air of objectivity and a dried eye gives one a mild revulsion.

@Krshwunk Tell that to children who have been molested, you are as stupid and ignorant as you are insensitive.

Henry VIII, Thomas Cromwell, Thomas Cranmer all good and bestest friends.

Good documentary!
Cranmwer and Cromwell were a pair of sycophantic, self-seeking, time servers.
Scum the both of them.
