  • I'm British but I'd suggest that theres plenty of other pilots Worldwide who would have pulled this off. The American who managed to crash land that flight into the River Hudson saving all on board being just one example.

  • this i s your captain speaking so easy slowdown nose up when it touches the sea bring the rubber slides down use it as floats then the passengers are safe oh wait i almost forgot use your lifevests .

  • Why is the Plane coverd with blue stuff

  • Roger Greaves (Senior first Officer) My Third Cousin :D

  • I remeber seein this with my dad they flew over a volcano

  • @DevilsH0b0 I remember looking out the window and seeing you with your dad

  • @lasstudyaid Erm....ok....

  • wonder what a big problem is

  • Come along chaps we all know to start a plane engine, "Use one cartridge, Ignition off, Clean out the cylinders!".

  • you call this a small problem then how does the big problem looks like

  • I have watched enough of these ACI shows to know one thing. If I am on a commercial plane with mechanical problems, I hope it is a British one. At least 3 different crews have done some great stuff and landed their plane with no loss of life.

  • @CCRider01 What about TACA 110 in 1988. They put the 737 on a field in thunderstorms without scratching the airplane. Airplane is still flying.

Or The Gimly Glider, or the Transat that glided onto The Azores Island.

None of them were Brits. They were Spanish and French, yes French the last two. So was the Baghdad DHL in 2003, landed without flight controls after been hit by a SAM.

  • @CFITOMAHAWK - Obviously many other countries have very good pilots, and not ONLY Brits have shown amazing pilot skills when needed, it would be silly to suggest otherwise. I was just stating that if on a plane with mechanical problems, a British crew would still be my first preference JMO of course. They are well trained, work as a team, and the Brits (in general not always of course) seem to have a different way of dealing with crisis.

  • "Ladies and Gentlemen we have a small problem all 4 engines have stopped. The clicking noise you hear is the sound of your fellow passengers knees rattling"

  • @CCRider01 lmao

  • It was their best episode.

  • i so not wanna be there when that happens

  • roger greaves is my 3rd cousin ;) lol

  • The atmosphere outside makes it seem like they're experiencing a Doctor Who opening credits.

  • The air outside the plane in cockpit view looks unrealistic

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the Captain, we have a SMALL problem. All 4 engines have stopped

  • Whats a big problem then?

  • @Teranex all for engines down, there over water and there are no airports around

  • KLM Flight 867 could have learned from BA 9!

  • volcanic eruption

  • I wanna buy Betty Tooter's book after i saw this.

  • What halo? Where it come from what is it?

  • copy that sir. in theory it can be done.

  • "...Ladies and gentlemen,we ve lost 4 engines and you should start praying..."

  • it theory it is indeed possible to glide a 747 from 39,000 feet to a perfect landing.

  • @Rico8458 It's more than just a theory. Assuming there is a suitable landing area within reach....very good possibility given the gliding distance from 39,000 feet.....the landing should not be very different from any "normal" landing. Keep in mind that during every touch down the plane is essentially gliding in. Of course with no engines there is no go-around option but, other than that, if the approach is set up correctly, the physics are the same.

  • thats y they need qantas pilots there

  • dam it

  • Ive seen the 747 its at a aircraft graveyard ner bournemouth, it still workerd for BA, before i belive it was purchased by continental

  • Small Problem...riigghht.

  • God I am coming to you''we have a small problem4 engines stopped''!!! but I do agree to certain extend..as Engines is not the biggest problem for plane,,what passenger and pilot should rearlly be scared of is the failure of hudraulic system , a whole in wing or somthing to do with wings

  • i did it in ms fs2004

  • @Rico8458 yeh u got the video of it

  • I remember a company check flight I did once in a 10 seat twin when I was doing a relief tour of duty for a former employer. The check and training pilot with me simulated a double engine failure which was something I'd never been asked to deal with before. It's surprising just how long it takes to formulate a new response to a new situation as opposed to the reponses we've been trained to make. Feels like wading through mud for a while and these guys would have felt just the same. Ups to them.

  • scary man

  • thats not a Small Problem is it?

  • small problem all 4 engine have stopped ONLY jajajajAJAJAJAJAJAJ CULERO

  • if 4 stopped engines is a small problem?! what is a big problem?.....that made my day

  • they survived it, it was vulcano ash and lower at the ground they could put the engines back on.

  • where is part 2?!?!

  • Typical British witt!!

  • This is wat would happen if you fly over Iceland right now.

  • @fiereb . May happen !

  • ladies and gentlemen all engines are out and uhh i hope you are all not in too much distress

  • ladies n gentlemen... tell ya mum you love her... we gonna drown shortly

  • 0:16 the voice of the kid!! ROFL!!!!

  • small problem all 4 engine have stopped

  • I know man. Small problem all 4 stop.... More like people we are going to hell all 4 engian have stopped.

  • "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking...We have a small problem, all 4 engines have stopped!"...."and you are going to die!"

  • first thing you do when you hear that is press the drinks button

  • @moakleydakota EXACTLY!!! I hate flying!! Double Barcardi and Coke please!! lol

  • @SuperMole666 that aint no small problem you know damn well if that was you up there with a plane full of people you would be scared and your on the line of saving these people so that aint a small problem thats the worst that can possibly happen if they had at least 2 engines running they could had made it and not worry about starting the other 2 but they did and they survived

  • @SuperMole666 ya but we all know the captain just refused to make a big deal cause he already knew the passengers are so scared. Flight attendants or pilots always do it by the public adress but everything is clear anyway.

  • new pilot should have started out with a Beachcraft not a boeing 747, only the pilot that has more experience should move to the 747.

  • Well all pilots start training from Beechcraft. How do you think they get their license?

  • they maybe forget about pre trip inspection, so when you operate a comercial vehicle or aircraft you have to inspect parts including Stearing Leafe suspension Condition of the front axle, condition of steering system, no loose worn bent damaged or missing parts, and must grab steering mechanism to test for looseness. check that low beams are on, both front and rear four way flashers are working, check that high beams work, four way emergency flasher,

  • the flight was to perth austarlia there weather radar was giving false info and they gone into lightning clouds elctro charged clouds and scratches the plane and made the engines catch on fire and make them stop

  • It had to do with volcanic ash.

  • where n when did this happen. did they make it to home safely without power in any of those engines??

  • oh dear oh dear, the 4 engines stopped...

    quite british

    :P

  • Comment removed

  • @tsubasapt people most english dont talk like this unless theyre rich ass mofos!!

  • @tsubasapt i can assure you we aren't all quite like that :)

  • @tsubasapt Great to be British and keep some temperement. You know of another air crew who managed to achieve a similar feat?

  • @mrwigster2

There have been other all engine flameouts with no deadly landings on it. I have a couple. See my fav's

  • Yeah no stress captain only the engines stopped no worries were as calm as fuck.

  • i do not understand why i watch this when it just freaks me out about flying...its a strange addiction

  • I know exactly what you mean.

  • Met is the most boring subject in a pilots syllabus. It makes you go to sleep, our examiner left the anwser on roll down white board and stated. "I am expecting LONG phone call during this exam, the anwser is on the other side of the board, please do not look at it as I will be at least 1 Hour ON THE PHONE"... It was our 3rd resit.

  • Remind me never to fly with ayone who came from your flying school.

  • Standard stuff! How can it be AIR CRASH INVESTIGATION? it did not bloody crash!

  • well it is sort of since it caught on fire and invesytigated the incident of the engines turning off and on over and over

  • superb

  • how terrifying

  • It sounds creppy but it looks like a time machine :D

  • all four engines failed is that a small problem no it a BIG ONE

  • id be scared first then sit there goin that looks friggin sweet haha, the plane all glowin like that and crap, it does kinda look neat

  • they do say its a small problem because they have to try to make the passengers feel as comfortable as possible, no matter what the circumstances are!

  • Ladies and gentlemen..our right wing just fell off but dont worry..we will try to fix the problem..just relax enjoy the flight.. = )

  • lol

  • small problem for a huge plane? retard!

  • small problem!!! lol all engine failed and some weird glow is all u can see i would be scared shitless

  • i know this episode, they were going through a volcanic ash cloud and once they go out of it all 4 engines turn back on.

  • small problem? lo l hes retard

  • we have a SMALL problem all four engines have STOPPED!!!!!!

  • did they die?

  • nuh they survived (:

  • 0:29 looks like the plane's using skull bash!

ok, that was a bad comment sorry...

  • They are just experienced Pilots

    Good Aviation

  • my fav aci episode

  • land in the sea....

  • they think they found it now

  • ofcourse every body herd

  • has anybody herd bout the plane that disappeared

  • On December 15, 1989 KLM Flight 867 from Amsterdam was descending into Anchorage International Airport when the Boeing 747-400 flew though a thick cloud of volcanic ash from Mount Redoubt. All four engines failed leaving only critical systems on backup electrical power. After descending more than 14,000 feet, Captain Karl van der Elst and crew were finally able to restart the engines and safely land the plane. In this case the ash caused more than $80 million in damage to the plane.

  • We Have A Small Problem

    All 4 Engines Have Stoped

    WTF!!!

  • in this case IT WAS that the plane flew INN a vulcanic ash cloud, so all the engines ran out of AIR to burn the kerosene! thats why they stard back again on a lower ALT., under the ashes and in plain air, about 10ooo ft

  • How it is possible that all 4 engines cease to function? Are you sure that there was not a phenomenon called Electromagnetic pulse?

  • If I were on a 747 and the guy atr the top says, "sorry folks, all 4 engines have failed, trust you are not in too much distress," I`d have died immediately - Ha !

  • that's the worst thing i have ever seen in my life

ps. small problem? u gotta joking man :P

  • many more harsh accidents besides this, but engine failure is a horrible problem.

There even was an air crash with a KID being the pilot!

  • he? lokk at 3.18.....why they put ignition to OFF ??

its defenetly an air-start, so this would not be a good idea :-)

  • its not an air start. its an engine shut down. The engines are on fire.

  • i love air crash

  • just pray that you are not in one

  • yeah i guess so.

watching the program highlights that thought each sad crashes another ton are saved tho.

  • amazing

  • I think one of the most remarkable plane crash stories ever! another one being the blow out one when the pilot got pinned to the front of the BA plane!

  • Its a prop strike you cant get out of those unless you Nose Dive

  • "ladies & gentlemen...we have a small problem.....ALL engines have stopped....I trust you're not in too much distress..." ffs....i'm still a virgin!!!!

  • The Airplane Look Like Ghost Airplane~~~~~

  • yeah lol. the real flying 'flying dutchman' lol

  • ya........

  • I find it laughable that you went straight to 'wiki' to read the 'proper facts'.

  • omg :O

  • all I kept thinking to my self as the plane plummeted toward the ground was, "dont worry be happy...everything is gonna be alright"..."dont worry...about a thing...if where gonna die where gonna die together" :|

  • ive watched this ive seen all of it

  • owned!!!!!!

  • haha lol ladies and gentelment this is you captain speaking we have a small problem al 4 engines are fall down LOL

  • haha yeah... LOL

  • and the most worst is,there just several ATC officer at jakarta know english language..fyuh, abashing!

  • may day? whats all that about

    ?

  • It's a word taken from the french help call "Venez m'aider" (you hear it like veuney mayday) and it means "come to my rescue" or "come to my help"...

  • That's an interesting piece of history. I'd not come across the origins of it. Mayday is the standard international distress call for aircraft in the same way SOS is for ships. (Or was, when morse was still used.) It's quick, difficult to mis-hear even for those who do not speak the same language, and then allows the pilot (or whoever) to communicate vital information without delay or interruption.

  • Yeah right! just a glimpse for emily17101 of what the word stands for...and sure it is now used by all pilots all around the world whatever their languages are!

  • one question whats that blue stuff coming off the airplane is it the flames or something i watched it on tv before but never gave an answer what is it

  • the blue halo around the plane is the static electricity caused by the friction of the small particles that form the vulcano's haze!

  • oh lol i did not know that but thanks !!!!!!

  • Why did not the pilots have their seat belts on at first? That's troubling. I hope that was just the video and not reality.

  • When you're at cruising altitude, flying straight and level, it's not necessary to wear seat belts. The only time it's necessary is during climb and descent.

  • Point well taken. But I think at least one pilot should at all times have his seat belt on and his seat correctly adjusted just to be safe.

  • There IS always one pilot flying the plane at all times. In fact, when one officer or the other goes to take a break, both officers must iterate to each other verbally who has control of the plane (i.e. "You have the plane", "I have the plane.").

  • I know there is one pilot at the controls when the other is taking a break but I'm just talking about seat belts.

  • it is a simulation in airplane inspections go to a nearest airport and fine a movie in which they simulate air craft investigations its fun i been in one but not in real life its fun you should try it!

  • The engines are Rolls-Royce.

  • Mt Galangung erupted at at the worst time

  • small problem... All four engines have stopped... PFF

  • all engines off or failed is what is referred to as "dead stick" and all sailplanes and gliders are ALWAYS dead stick, but in a jet airplane it is a extreme problem because jets are have a much higher wing loading

  • all engines off or failed is what is referred to as "dead stick" and all sailplanes and gliders are ALWAYS dead stick, but in a jet airplane it is a extreme problem because jets are have a much higher wing loading

  • When flying through volcanic ash the ash sucked into the engines melts in the combustion chamber and plates out onto any surface available. It pretty quickly ruins the compressor efficiency. It is amazing they managed to get them restarted later; the engines were probably complete losses, and the body was sandpapered smooth.

  • wtf is that blue light??

  • It`s caused by the evil VOLCANO!

  • its called st elmo's fire. i remember watching this episode. the dust from the volcano's eruption brushes against the boeing, causing the sparks. volcano eruptions do not appear on radar, which is why the pilots didn't have a clue what was going on.

the good thing though is that the pilot and co-pilot make a miraculous landing.

it's a good episode. watch it.

  • "Ladies & Gentlemen, we have a small problem - all four engines have stopped..... I trust you're not too distressed....." EXCUSE ME??? IF EVER I HEARD THAT ON BOARD A PLANE I'D BE CRAPPING MYSELF!!!!!

  • i watched this on tv, what causes it to glow is the volcano ash errputing from it

  • Im not sayin RR engines are bad but most crashes I see are planes with RR engines.

  • as if you would say that....it would give every 1 a heart attack

  • yeay the british rock i should know because im british

  • Ladies and gentlemen we have a "SMALL" problem all four engines have failed, that what I call keeping your cool a very British response.

  • Try to view the last part of this episode, where it shows the plane in bare metal with most paint stripped off by the sandblasting effect. Three of the engines were removed in Jakarta and sent by cargo plane to RR factory in UK for strip down inspection. See the solidified ash (was molten) clogging up the turbine and compressor blades. Its a miracle to restart the engines!

  • The turbines are designed to suck in huge amounts of air, inside air is pressurized and added with fuel, etc. and thus making engines hot, the smoke ash are really volcanic rocks tiny bits of them, when in reached the internal engine it turned into a slimy molten goo and starts to choke the engines, a tail fire is caused when the engine burns with less oxygen

  • Just read acwilstonies answer,they landed ok--PHEW

  • I would have died of fright then and there!not too much distress!flippen heck!SO WHAT HAPPENED,?did they land ok?

  • i hate it when people have to say MAYDAY It creeps me

  • First of all....NEVER F@#K'N SAY ALL FOUR ENGINES HAVE STOPPED!!! I like the truth but dam, have some tack!! lol Please take your seats. Fasten your seatbelts maybe? lol

  • i've seen this one 3 times on TV :P

i just keep watching. love this program :D

BTW (spoiler) an island nearby where there is a volcano which erupted and so there was an ash cloud which they flow through

  • They did a good job boy! You must feel on top of the world when you land a plane after all that!

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a small problem..."

Not as bad as "Ladies and Gentlemen, today isn't our day." can't remember what crash that was from, but I know it crashed into a forest. I think.

  • Understatement of the decade!

A 747 can glide just 15Km for every 1000m it loses in height. At the time, this was the longest glide in history.

  • 02:40 "ladies and gentlemen.. we have a small problem"

Don't think so because if a 747 lands on water all 4 engines act like a scoop which can cause the plane to break up more easily

  • shitty experience

  • "ladies and gentlemen, we have a SMALL probleme, all 4 engines stoped."

Ow fo sho, the passengers will be calm now

  • it looks like they r going at light speed like on star wars

  • Ok i was thinkin of being a pilot not any more AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

  • We have a small problem ??¡¡¡¡¡ jajajaja

  • ladies and gentlemen this is your captain speaking, we have a small problem, all four engines have stopped, i trust your in not too much distress.

  • wat heeeeeeeeeeeeeelp, LOL mate

  • i dont care if my flight crashes aslong as it aint pilot error

  • Since you know the casualties caused by Boeing, can you please provide the casualties caused by Airbus? Thanks.

  • you're an idiot

  • The incident was British Airways Flight 9 in which the aircraft flew into a volcanic ash cloud thrown up by the eruption of Mount Galunggung, in Indonesia. The plane was able to land safely, with no casulaties.

  • where is part four.. what caused this
