Wow, thanks for posting this. The wonderful, sadly recently deceased Mick Karn on bass. He talks about performing this song in his autobiography - how he basically had 10 minutes to learn the thing, but how Pete Townshend had absolute faith in him.
@no1paultaylor1975 I ripped it from a Phil Collins compilation disc I recieved in a trade. The cover states it's from 1984. My guess it is one of the Prince's Trust concerts
@sober8 Good guess! Wikipedia says "The track was first performed live in July 1982 at the first Prince's Trust concert in London featuring Phil Collins on drums."
I agree, the original recording has Pete soloing to end the song. I would rather hear a PT solo then a repeat lyrical part that just ends. This ending was kind of a cop out.
this is Pete's "new wave retro-fascist" look, and I love the hair and makeup. Oh well, even the coolest rockstar ever stumbled through fashion sometimes.....I like his angry drunk Empty Glass period look best...
I remember the nights of slit skirts. And I remember one young lady back in the late 70's who didn't ware slit skirts. Judy never wore slit skirts. : (
Phil is the house drummer for the whole concert playing with Robert Plant, Pete, Midge Ure, Kate Bush, Gary Brooker & Ian Anderson & Martin Barre, It was quite something to see Plant's Worse Than Detroit with Robbie Blunt on slide and Townshend on lead (and, of course, Phil). Sublime.
I don't think this song is too much like a pop song really. You have to keep in mind that this entire album was focused on his recovery from heroin addiction. There are some odd tracks, but the whole albums really is amazing. Out of all the songs this is easily the best for a single and this video is interesting since it has Phil Collins in it. I was a big Genesis fan(with Gabriel and Collins) before I found the Who.
Pete the pop singer instead of Pete the rock guitarist. A strange sight, I must say. When he starts singing in gibberish and messes up the ending it's almost back to normal, though! Thanks for sharing!
This is beautiful––thank you.

Right--the guitar at the end of the album version is great! Too bad it fades out rather quickly.

It's a very good album and I think this is the last song on it. Loved the guitar at the end.

At 3:17 Pete looks to give Phil a nod to start a drum roll but he knows Phil is on top of things and has a sheepish grin instead. Great smile!

Does Phil play drums for Robert Plant's set, too? I know he played them on Plant's "Pictures At Eleven."

That is becuase Pete has a hard time singing and playing piano. He has admitted to that.
