  • i guess mustaches were a bog thing back then, in running.. shorter and pre

  • my dad beat him up to a bloody pulp for talking 2 much cah cah

  • Frank Shorter had TWO litres of beer at the Hofbrauhaus the night before the race.

  • Does anybody know what Frank ran in high school, or how he progressed in college?

  • If you can find his autobiography Olympic Gold: A Runner's Life and Times, sadly out of print, you'll find that he was a good high school runner. He was the New England Prep School Cross Country Champion his senior year at Northfield (a boarding prep school in Massachusetts).

He attended Yale university, but was not that serious about the sport. His coach recognized he had lots of talent. Senior year he got serious and won the NCAA 6-Mile championship.

  • Frank ran in highschool but no where near elite level... He did run at Yale couple of times and was still no where near favorite.. although the move to Florida track Club made him badass!!

  • how old was Frank when he transfered from Yale to Florida? He won the Olympic Marathon when he was only 24.

  • Se llama "Bugler's Dream," sueno de un trmopetisa!

  • Hey what´s the name of the song?

¿Alguien sabe el nombre de esa canción?

  • Frank Shorter also finished 5th in the 10,000 meters at Munich (27:50, I think) in an epic race... amazing that he ran a sub-28 minute 10K and then won the gold at the marathon like a week later... I loved his technique and his running gait, very elegant and composed

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting. Anyone know where I can get the whole marathon on DVD or VHS?

  • too short. no one can put together a longer one?

  • There were a lot of highs and lows in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, but Frank Shorter winning the marathon was a perfect bookend.

  • What a baller, the USA needs more Frank Shorters!

  • You are so right.

  • I was 15 when I first saw this. I now run to this day because of it..J

  • Frank Shorter represented the USA very well.

  • The 1972 Olympic games in Munich were so tragic. I am glad that Frank Shorter gave us something uplifting to remember,

  • And he came back 4 yrs later and won the silver. His feat goes so unrecognized. He is the reason why at 51 I still run LD

  • Moments before Frank entered the stadium a young fellow, who I think was driving a soft drink truck, posed as a runner and entered the stadium made a lap.The fans thought this guy was the leader of the race until the confusion was cleard.Moments latter Shorter made his entry and went on to claim the gold.Shorter was asked about the incident later and he said he never saw the imposter.I think the imposter went on to become a lawyer in Munich.

  • Segal, doing commentary for ABC, apparently thought Shorter DID see the intruder. He was calling things like "Look at his face, he looks worried! C'mon Frank, you won it." Shorter was probably just tired, or confused because people were booing.

  • A great American Runner...clip is a litle short...

  • What is so amazing about this race is he ran almost unchallenged and looks so remarkable fresh. Why is there not a clip from his silver medal. Frank Short accomplished so much and yet you hear very little.

  • I REMEMBER THIS! I also remember that one of the commentators for track and field was Shorter's friend Erich Segal, author of Love Story, who got very emotional.
