hey token just wondering if you know how to replace the dc-jack-in ?

i took the bottom of my fw off and unplugged the dc-jack + took out 1 screw

but something is still holding the jack+housing in place and i cant find it for the life of me

@romils1ify not sure if u still need to but there are instructions on ifixit dot com all you have to do is unscrew all the screws on the bottom slide the cd bay out and unscrew the screws under there; than pull the bottom piece off

or in a sensitive area use a cotton swab.

Also I do not have to tell u not to use solution in the sensitive part of the laptop..like the chip. Just gently wipe the dust off.

And you would be fool to try to clean your laptop with it being on. Don't forget to completely turn off your laptop. That means taking out the battery as well.

Games often tend to consume too much processing power and hence the speed of the fan increases accordingly to keep the processor cool.

And yes, it's normal for laptop's vent to get warm on playing games. But do not try to cover up the vents.

Btw, do you know if the keyboard has to be model specific? Like, a FW290 keyboard versus a FW140 keyboard. Danke.

@apologiate07 Have to warn you that the replacement keyboard will not necessarily be sturdy as the keyboard from Sony so careful before you buy it. I only advise to do this as a last option when you really really need replacement. If keys like F11 or F8 gets screwed then I recommend sticking to Sony's original keyboard.

If you have a Ubuntu Live CD then you can try it out on it. If it still fails to work on Ubuntu then it's a hardware problem else it could very well be the problem of your current OS. [hoping that your current OS is not Ubuntu]

is this hard? I accidently threw a glass of fruitjuice over my keyboard and many keys are very sticky.

will I lose waranty? and, will i have to replace it? or is opening it up and cleaning it ok?

Do not tamper with your laptop if your warranty is still valid. Those customer service guys will do anything to get rid of "the service" they provide. Anyway just tell them you had a little accident and you just need to clean the keyboard. They should do it for free.

I unscrewed everything and managed to get the keyboard out. Did mess up 2 keys and the whole thing is almost impossible to clean. Do you perhaps have any ideas where I can order myself a new AZERTY one?

I tried searching everywhere but of no vain. What you can do is go to your Sony Dealer, or to the Sony itself and ask for replacement keyboard. Hopefully they will provide you with one although it might be a bit expensive than the one I suggested.

ok so i found pdf file with the entire process of opening the laptop...but when i must remove the keyboard i'm afraid to pull it harder upwards like it says ..i'm afraid it's gonna break...dunno if it should come out harder or not...and if i'm break it i'm good as dead...don't a have replacement keyboard:P

don't worry as long as you are gentle to the components it should not break. read the manual carefully on where the notches and locks are, a gentle force might be needed though..

anyway..all you have to do is take out the tape from the cable and stick it to the cable coming out of motherboard...
