  • This is what Asimov dreamed & predicted, so true! Thanks MIT!

  • ey mia is langweilig

  • This is free education online! thanks so much..

  • This man is a wizard! Snazzy dresser, extremely articulate, and bad ass handwriting.

  • This professor is so cool. The dog name joke made me lol. He looks like he was taken from a 60's Italian movie.

  • His lecture 3 suit is his best !

  • the notes are not even in ocw!!!

  • Here is my notes from this class Lecture 3: Atomic Mass X Proton Number Chemical Reaction 1. DOLTONS law OF MOLAR PROPORTIONS 2. Conservation of mass not mole number CaCo3 ->900Deg---> Cao + Co2 1 mole 1 mole 1 mole divide by atomic mass you get in grames Boiling boint is based of size of particles Bhor Electron model
  • This man deserves a Noble Prize for his passion and teaching style!!!

  • Thank you very much. this is how you make a better world.

  • 29:30

  • Interesting lecture. It's more of a history lecture rather than chemistry.

  • So are the MIT lecture videos getting jumpy for anybody else? I have been watching them them for about a year now, and they have in the last few weeks become sketchy/jumpy on any computer I try viewing them on.

Do I need to update something, perhaps?

  • 15:34 reminded me of Dexter's Lab. LOL

  • I really like how Mr. Sadoway encourages students. He's always full of energy. But, sometimes he says unfortunate quotes. "...I believe that is a hallmark of any educated person of the 21st century who is technically literate to know the periodic table by heart..." Even for a chemist this is not right. We're scientists, not parrots.

  • @Pdvil I don't know about that...just from working with certain things...I naturally know what is what on the table and it just makes life easier. In the end the math rules I had once on cheat sheets are now known by heart. It is not about memorization, it is about connecting knowledge to other knowledge, as a result your foundation becomes stronger...ether way just buy the shower curtain from think geek.com that has the table on it...problem solved ;)

  • Nice suit!

  • Why 30 molecules of water have different properties then a lot of them?

  • i love the sound when he writes

  • how small is your maker... ? is he/she/they in 2 places at once? can they go the distance? ONLY SMALL THINGS VALUE BIG THINGS... how big are you? Prove it:)

  • electrons.. oh have to love them.. no mass but SO much power.

YOU NEVER BEEN TO PRISON ? 1000 mules kept by 1 master...

protons . newtrons . life captures life.. symbiotic rilationship ... parasitic interaction

electron protects the proton, newtron enjoys the union (free ride) ..

PS... if ya only knew what new. terons hide from ....youd want an electron of your own

-getting help from a professor teaching 20,000 people online? The professor has office hours which you can attend in cohesion with your schedule. What does online have anything to do with it??

Not being mean, but you sound a little slow.

  • TO: DarioCruxx .

-how is it graded? It is not graded, however the material is regurgitated in the form of a weekly quiz instead.. Also if you need help with it, there are copious sessions with TA's.

-making life-long friends?- yes, this is great. but how can you get to know someone when at the exact same time you are focused on learning the material? sounds like this would be better done outside of lectures, or possibly during labs.

-where people can learn? So people don't learn at MIT??

  • TO: DarioCrixx

-how is homework assigned? what kind of question is that?? its written on the board/online/assigned verbaly...

  • Hey, this is kind of off topic, but does anyone know when double-displacement reactions do not occur?

  • Great teacher!

  • I think my brain exploded....it's been way TOO long since chemistry!!!

  • Damn! This is so nicely done! This lecturer literally goes out of breath for a class! Amazing lesson, I wish my lessons were like that!

  • Can you imagine people sitting down in front of the tv at night and instead of watching scrubs or the office catching up on some chemistry? Power full stuff and surprisingly as I am a college student myself, at a much lesser university that MIT, I find this very interesting.

  • @Griesbach135: Interesting point. Good stuff indeed!

  • Future of schooling right here. Instead of having 20million teachers, cut it to 5 million and set up stations across the country to do testing(so you can't cheat). Have a national website that uploads live videos and do your homework online.

  • No thanks. I prefer the old fashioned university model with small classes where intellectuals can discuss and learn and make life-long friends. How will homework be assigned and graded? Imagine trying to get help from a professor teaching a class of 20,000 online. Academic nightmare.

  • More and more of these subjects should be posted. Talk about the ability to gain knowledge. Instead of searching tons of websites why not go to youtube and watch a lacture. This is great.

  • hes just recapping A level chemistry (high school chemistry) don't forget it a introduction to solid state chemistry

  • These videos are superb. :)

  • so thats what college is like

  • @hondapowers2k Not so fast, this is what a great college is like, don't expect this level of performance from most professors, but do expect it from yourself.

  • @hondapowers2k No thats MIT

  • @hondapowers2k No, that's what a freshman course is like

  • @Diggensek coming from a guy who wresetles with men in a tent

  • @hondapowers2k that s what MIT is like not college

  • @hondapowers2k That's what a GOOD college is like.

  • this is the best and the most reproductive initiative taken by such a big institute... a big thanx to the thinking engines out there..... its the best way i hav ever experiencd of teaching and thats what, in my opinion, make MIT one of the topnoch institutes.. and these lectures are so addictive...

    aditya kanadi

  • piece of the most delicious cake in the world for me now..

  • i hate chemistry my teacher is so boring

  • Amazing. I feel privileged to be able to see this for free! I feel sorry for all the poor kids in that class who paid an arm and a leg for what I'm getting for free. I think I can do without the big bill :) and the expensive piece of paper, what do they call it, a degree?

  • im in highschool and these are super understandable and i love mit im apllying to go there :] i hope i get in.

  • @briibaby15 did you get into MIT??

  • jesus he can write fast with chalk!

  • these ppl teach with so much of energy and in an entertaining way...we don't get that often in india

  • The best universities retain the best professors. In general, Professor at four year universities do a good job. We are lucky.

The good news is that MIT is going to continue to produce openware for the good of the world. So, we can all enjoy such super teaching no matter where we view it.

    Did you like the video?

  • I definitely liked the video. ^_^ I didn't do very well on my AP chem test in highschool, so I decided to skip chemistry as a First Year (bad idea) and test into a higher course sophomore year. I'm a rising sophomore and I'm reviewing right now for next year. These videos are great help!

  • I loved this lecture he is the clearest teacher I feel like Im watching star gate or solid state chemistry gate I will never look at society the same why dont we build our society as stable as the elements? itwe should understand that thas why civilization fall a[art they wernt built for stability but for conquest?

  • <- psych. student, this guy seems to be even more "job orientated" in his private live then my psych prof ^^

  • Thank God im not a science major :)

And that poor guy is out of breath lol

  • I HATE the "See Lecture Notes" pop up!!!!!!

  • @mattsphagetti I agree, all of those resources they obviously have they don't have a better editor around? :)

  • He moves very fast like hyper kinetics!

  • IIT's are much better.

  • @prasadindia20

LoL Much better at putting students to sleep.

  • is it not written don't look for parrots where penguins live?

  • damn, this is the education u get outta MIT.

  • hey...10mintow whtevr i do not care whether u think of my comment as a lie or not...i really thought that this video was pretty helpful considering the way they teach in india...but please i'm ryt now in 11th grade n hv already dont things lyk d quantum nos.(if u now wht they are) and why the filling of electrons happend the way it happens against the aufbua's principal...why DID I HURT SOMEBODY?? in a nut shell i DONOT care wht u think..these things(read ur comments) r useless to me...

  • Why are you still in 11th grade, while you're already 19? I have friends from India during my uni days; the normal age for freshmen from India is 17 - everyone of them. They started education when they're 3 years old. Yes, I also learn the things you said in my high school - I bet everyone does; and learn it again in university - in much more depth. Yeah, quantum nos, "aufbua", helluva difficult. And why did you reply if you dont care? 11th grade @ 19 years old. That says a lot about you.

  • wow

  • did they also teach you how to lie very unconvincingly?

  • Not as in depth. My guess is that this is the review part of the course.

  • @Raykak

No, this is the real lecture. No shit review here.

  • 3.091, 3.091, 3.091!

  • I tottally agree
