I'm an Indonesian and I basically don't fancy BB, since it has limitations here and there. I prefer Android (since iPhone price is unimaginably expensive here in Indonesia). However, my society won't understand; not owning a BB in the middle of people who use that makes me feel like, well, alienated. Like, I was so out of date about everything. They chat on their BB group. And oh, hanging out with them now is making me feel lonely instead. Pathetic.
that's why there's a quote for bb user in Indonesian: it makes them closer to people who are far away from them, but in the same time it makes alienate those people around them, busy to reply their bbm. it was really true that basically Indonesian people love to talk and that is the cheapest & easiest way to do it. well Idk should be proud or sad cuz of it as Indonesian. I dont like bb and I'm android user, but in the end sometimes I feel that I need bb to chat about something urgent easily too.
Unfortunately though, most Indonesians really just use Blackberry for the BBM or Twitter clients, while letting its other utility go to waste.. But yea the Blackberry crashes a lot and the battery drains very quick! (But I got mine for free so am not complaining much). Still prefer it over the iPhone tho, just because of the keypad. Personal preference. I like to type essays on the go and found that I type quicker with a physical keypad.
But yes, Indonesians are very social folks, they love hanging out together and chatting in groups. I guess that's why they're crazy over BBM and social media. In Indonesia these are used as a medium to reconnect and keep in touch with long-lost friends and distant relatives. Studying abroad, it's also cheaper and more convenient for me to keep in touch with my friends and family through BBM, as compared to SMS or phone calls. Skype's free but the connection there is still very bad.
Peer pressure is a thing in Indonesia.. If a person owns a blackberry, his peers will get "even" by also getting a blackberry or even a more expensive one. And oh yes, social status is another thing in Indonesia.. No berry, no friends, NoGusta..
Mark my word, once the blackberry trend is over, another wave of trend is gonna sweep in.
TL;DR: INVEST IN INDONESIA, WE CAN HANDLE ALL TYPES OF MARKET :)
Because when you have no blackberry in Indonesia, the one who uses blackberry will look down on you. That's why every single people in Indonesia try to get at least one blackberry. So they'll look a bit more "elite".

let's say that using iphone, the price for internet connection is much expensive compared to BB service now days, so i can use BB for connection and iPhone for listening to music. and nokia as my standard phone to receive sms and phone calls.

@sakuraharutsuki yep, iPhone is a normal phone with rich features, but still i prefer to use it as music player coz the power usage is a lot lot lot lower than BB playing music. iPhone battery only lasts 4 hours connected to internet, so why bother wasting power? BB could last whole day.
No matter how, it's still better for me to be an iPhone user… I love using apps for phone. Using WhatsApp, normal messenger like YM, and SMS (for now) are still better for me. No noise for broadcasts or group message so I can sleep well every night. No offense, dude… it's just my opinion…

Not a rare case in which some teenager whose family barely have money for such luxury, their daughter (mostly) asked the parents to buy her a blackberry, JUST SO SHE'LL LOOK MORE "ELITE" on her friends' eyes.
This is how blackberry terribly influenced Indonesia. Very sad.

depends dude, i use both blackberry, iphone and nokia, it's just how you maintain your usage between them, all of them have their own usage.
let's say that using iphone, the price for internet connection is much expensive compared to BB service now days, so i can use BB for connection and iPhone for listening to music. and nokia as my standard phone to receive sms and phone calls.

@silentiumlunaris iphone just for listening music ? I think internet connection for iphone is much more afforable than blackberry full service . bb full service price range 70-100k IDR, and internet price only 25-50k IDR(for 500mb)

@sakuraharutsuki yep, iPhone is a normal phone with rich features, but still i prefer to use it as music player coz the power usage is a lot lot lot lower than BB playing music. iPhone battery only lasts 4 hours connected to internet, so why bother wasting power? BB could last whole day.

No matter how, it's still better for me to be an iPhone user… I love using apps for phone. Using WhatsApp, normal messenger like YM, and SMS (for now) are still better for me. No noise for broadcasts or group message so I can sleep well every night. No offense, dude… it's just my opinion…

i think regarding to the income for each individual in indonesia makes blackberry the best choice for them.. its cheap and lot of people use it..!!!!!
and i should agree to what he said that indonesians love to socialize.. thats the point of why BB is so popular there.. however, theres plenty of people who dont have BB, cuz BB sucks ball..

Not all indonesian people love blackberry !! Im the apple freak. Iphone 4 n ipad 2 is still the best for me. Ios 5 is awesome. Bb Os 7 is same with os 6. The app world is poor of app. See itunes store its soo many app n games . Thanks steve jobs ! Love u

So blackberries are the new social status symbol in poor countries just as iphones replaced them in rich countries. i like how they confronted the rim suit about the socio-economical stratus of smart phones in the jakarta sample and he responded with the typical sales turn negative into positive "I love this scenario...I think you are describing our traditional success" and then the rest of his response was edited out using a big jump cut.
