Odd. I watched a video of a wreck with a wooden catch fence,Driver Hurt. Crash with a Metal Catch Fence,Driver Killed. This proves that wood or metal Catch Fences can help a driver live in a airborne wreck,But that dosen't mean that they won't be hurt, Or even Killed. Catch Fence or not, Racing is a Big Risk
that's awful to see him win the indy 500, leading the cahmpionship, and die when he;s only 32. that's awful. R.I.P. Dan Wheldon. Gone But NOT Forgotten
"…it’s ridiculous. What they do is make them drive with wings which are flat, so even the worst drivers can drive at the speeds of everybody else, because everybody’s flat. They were going round, basically touching wheels at 220 miles an hour...I don’t think anything else could have happened; there’s 34 cars basically in the same bit of track and they were going four abreast into corners. So it was inevitable that somebody was going to crash" - Jody Scheckter F1 World Champion
pity only 33.. like senna 34 ..this guys are hero,s ..they know the risks..but here at vegas..more risks..small oval..many cars..wheldon took a bit chance..when he saw accident ahead..didnt lift off..and decide to pass one car ahead of him...didnt know was going to cost his life..R.IP. maybe i,m wrong but i believe in an afterlife..and hope he is fine over there..salutes
the video at 3:40 is the incar camera of Will Power, not Dan Wheldon... Dan's car was the white car that came in from behind, and the second to become airborne
@grigor997 Man, I really couldn't tell you for sure. I just linked it because of how dramatic it was. There may never have been footage like this ever captured in the history of motorsport- if you think about it.
Truthfully, I know a ton about cars. A ton. The name Dan Wheldon is only vaguely familiar to me. This isn't his first big crash, as I'm learning.
Back to the video element: The longer the duration of any particular crash, generally the more survivable it is.
@Rick258442 I was thinking the same thing about this being one of the best footage captured in a wreck like this. Yea a about a year or 2 ago Dan had a bad wreck.

On 23 October in Malaysia we have lost an Italian MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli. He can rest in peace with your Dan Wheldon.

RIP dan....but this is why F1 limited the power of the cars...... too much power allowed in indy car. tragic.
