I love the way Beans pounces at 1:09 like he attacking the door stop. Big FIERCE basset hound LOL. I am so fortunate my mom over my dad's objections got my family a puppy basset when I was 6. She was a joy, and my father quickly became a fan. They're just so dang funny. But there is NO breed I know of that loves kids more. Sadly, I just lost my mom a few months ago. Hopefully she and our basset have hooked up.

@tubby256j So if a stranger comes to your house, there is a possibility you might have to "introduce" Bean to new people. Otherwise he might be a bit overly protective and try to play Doberman or something. It just takes a second, and they're fine. They just cannot be social enough. I'm so jealous. (condo near the white house, no animals allowed. Bummer). I love watching small children squeal with delight when they see a basset, almost as much as a panda. CHEERS!

My mom is a teacher and my dad and i would bring him in to her classroom sometimes just so he could run around with the kids. He passed a couple years ago now, but he was my first dog and I haven't been able to get one since. Hopefully I will soon.
@pjm5100 Wow, that's another coincidence - my mom was a teacher too. I was the youngest of 5 kids, so our B.H. was around when my big sister got married and had her kids. Keep that in mind when you get married. You can't find a better breed for babies and small kids. I think kids love their being at their eye level. The other thing- Bassets are friendly to just about everybody, but they love little kids especially when they sense that they're part of the family. They're just so funny.

Oh our basset will be 7 weeks old when we get her in tow weeks and we cannot wait. This really helps me think about some of the weird things we need to look out for her chewing on. Thanks!

My first basset hound was also named Beans---short for Beanbag, he died 2002...Now I have a basset named Ola. Our five-year-old son Samuel loves him very much. Great pet for laid back people. But we do go on an hourlong stroll almost everyday.
Oh, I didn't mention the numerous stops. That hour-long stroll is just around the block which would take just 5 minutes on a brisk pace. And my, last summer, I nearly walked out on him several times! He refused to walk. There was a time he dozed off half an hour under the rosehip bush of our neighbour---wouldn't budge at all. Oh well, that's part of being owned by a basset hound.
I just got a pup in july. We were so excited and bought her a world of toys. All she does is chew on plastic bottles, and put rocks in her mouth. I love her though!
lol, stupid dog, just like a basset to chew on everything BUT the toys you give him. I went through 4 garden hoses with both of mine, not to mention the cable wire attached to the house. one thing I'll say is bitter apple works wonders. Once trained, they are so lovable! Though they never seem to stop wanting to be lap dogs :)
I have 2 basset hounds, Chloe and Anakin Skywalker. We bought Chloe 5 years ago and be got Anakin from a rescue when he was 12 weeks old. We love them to pieces. Great dogs!

Our basset had a bad habit of doing this. It cost us alot of money to remove all of the door stops and then replace them with the kind that attach to the hinges of the door.
Basset Hounds are so cute. When mine was puppy, she would be running around then step on one of her ears and trip over it, do a few summersaults and get up running again.
he's a cute little beggar but don't let him have his way around the house or he will think it's ok to do something. Believe it or not, a crate is a dog's best friend. It's his "special place" to go when he wants to be quiet and alone or to sleep. He won't mind being there when you go out so no chewed up house when you return. Great for his safety when travelling by vehicle as well!

This is a true sign of a poor dog owner allowing the puppy to chew and destroy whatever it wants and thinking it is funny and not correcting the behavior. One day they will come home to a dead dog that choked on something or it destroyed something in their house. Then as usual they will panic and turn the dog into the pound because they didn't have the maturity to properly set their pup straight and make it a good dog. What till you get a $2000 vet bill for surgery / 1000s in destroyed property.
ye i want to get a beagle, ive had 2 pure cocker spaniels,one Terrier and one mixed chocolate Lab, but beagles are look soooooo cute. My terrier was poisoned by my neighbour. That jerk died anyways
