This was in February? Is the background white because of snow?
In most of the US, babies wouldn't have been hatched yet. That's an adult. If it's small enough to look like a baby to you, it could be an adult of any of several small US owl species. I'm guessing that it's a Screech Owl. It has ear tufts. Did the plumage look like rough tree bark? It sort of does in this clip.
