  • prefer the original versions to this.. though it's just fuck yeah awesome xD

  • "Parsley, SAAAAAAAGE!..."

  • What's funny is that for the first 3-4 pictures of the band, they come to look progressively uglier with each picture. Father time hit these guys with a nuclear bomb! Still a good band, it's just like.... what happened?? Geoff looks awful without hair! oh well...

  • nice hats @ first pic

  • Fascinating. I really love the more ethereal versions of this song, but I REALLLYYYYYY like this cover. xD

then again, I love me some badass guitarrrrr!

very interesting take on this song. :D

  • this isn't real metal. its not a real folk cover. its just really bad. if you wanna hear real metal listen to sabbath, led zep, maiden, priest, metallica, motor head, megadeth (who i just saw!), slayer, anthrax (who I'm gonna see in a few days), morbid angel, death, venom, mayhem, at the gates, carcass, exodus, krater,,,,ANYTHING BUT THIS!!!! ruins a magical song,,,in the way when judas priest covered johnny b. goode (love priest but they can't play chuck)

  • @peacesellsstevebuyin This is just power metal, mate - don't take it seriously!

kudos for including death and mayhem though, i was losing faith when you starting listing a load of generic thrash bands!

  • @peacesellsstevebuyin I love the last part of your post...some songs should not be covered because it ruins the magic of the original. But that does not take away from their music moreoever adding to their accomplishments of something different.

  • the style doesn't fit the song. It's just empty words with no feeling this way.

  • This song needs no empty words, just shut up and listen,,,,,\m/

  • hell yes....... say what you will about tate- but his pipes rule....

  • 1st class!

  • hole cockslap this is insane. idk if its better than the original, but hearing it like this is awesome lol

  • @jshizzle1991 *holy

  • I love it when bands that are a completely different genre do covers of songs

  • Amy nutall is the best for me so far..Leaves eyes not bad..this is just ok..so many versions..

  • The acoustic version is WAY better.

  • @IrishCelticPrincess

They're definitely no Celtic Woman or Simon and Garfunkel, but eh, it could be worse right?

  • @IrishCelticPrincess It's the magical Geoff Tate with his old band Myth, check Queensrÿches acoustic version if you dont like the heavy music, it takes some getting used to :)

  • Hey edgar I believe its Geoff on vocals and his band when he did a solo project. Dont know the name of the album. He nailed it though. Both versions are kick ass. Goes to show his vocal range. Trully of the top five vocalist in my opinion, Another one is Rob Halford. Just my opinion.

  • This made me laughhhh :') I LOVE IT :)

  • fantastic!

  • Which disk contains this version?, until I Know it is not queensryche but Myth. I really appreciate if somebody ask.

  • Thank you

  • Listen to the power, what a left right combo

  • I love this version of this song

  • love it.... the original is tops... but this.... this band rocks so damn hard...

  • well this is awesome....

  • very nice voice and song

  • This is Myth, I was there when this track was recorded, that's kelly Gray on the guitar

  • This is not Queensryche!

This is MYTH ! With Kelly Gray on Guitar. Queensryche was not even a band until years latter.

  • hair metal.

  • ish !

  • that... is kinda creepy

  • @abravar2 how

  • @RyanMartinMulcahey i just really like the original version.

  • @abravar2 You mean by Gordon Heath and Lee Payant?

  • @stratman123 well, i like the more classical approach. Simon and Garfunkel isnt exactly classical, but its my favorite. :) I also love Hayley Westenra's rendition of it from Celtic Women.

  • @abravar2 Their versions are both beautiful in the classical version, and I do like that style of rendition better, but this is still very interesting for it's sheer difference.

  • Always a phenomenal band !! Theoi !!

  • I love Queensryche, but this is horrible.

  • I'd give away my virginity for that kind of vocals!

  • Are those guys in the pictures the original band members?

  • @stp52x, In the older pictures they are all original. In the newer pics there is Mike Stone who replaced QR's other guitarest Chris DeGarmo for a bit. QR's newest guitarest is Parker Lundgren. Props to Michael (Whip) Wilton for his kick ass guitar skills always. RYCHE ON!

  • What the Hell?! This is a Celtic sort of ballad is it not?

  • Unbelieveable did we or u or us like this crap. Scarborough Fair done as a hair metal version. It's embarrassing! I mean I'm embarrassed for them, this rips the guts out of something beautiful and makes it unbeautiful...terrament no disrespect, but delete this and just post sweet lucidity.

  • @nat00ben06 One, Queensryche isnt even hair metal. Two, suck my fucking dick.

    Three, this is awesome!

  • @jarheadts I'm a guy, you want me to perform a homosexual act on you.......sorry but I'm straight, well I have no problem with gay people but did you really want to come out of the closet on youtube? Queensryche's version of this song to me, ok to me is not very pleasant. By the way it's time to grow up!

  • @nat00ben06 Stop being so literal you ignorant cunt!

  • this is so different from the version they recorded during the empire session - awesome (still i prefer the other version) and thanks for uploading it

  • O__O awesome vocals

  • back when geoff could hit those notes, was this like from a live concert or something, this is different than the one on the greatest hits

  • AMAZING

  • lol @ hair bands

  • never heard a rockish version of it before?!!!

  • Iron Maiden on Acid!

  • hell, what a crap!!!!

  • wow, this is like the 3rd ver. i've heard

  • VERAMENTE UNA MERDA

  • i like it!

  • @randomspawner the same could be said about that gay short haired, a white guitarplaying wannabe-headbanger in your band, seen in your uploads.

  • @OphisPhil

u meant my second guitarist? well, yeah... he's gay alright... he works as a very gay hotel chef. hahhahhhahh...!

  • @randomspawner The screamo "metal" you have uploaded isnt metal, its the equivalent of dogshit. Screamo and nu metal are responsible for killing true heavy metal so shut the fuck up.

  • i heard the "normal" song like 100 times and loved it but i love also love metal.

that means i like this version too :D

  • We played this song in my school band (orchestra.) I played trombone. The original composer of this song is unknown.

  • This is Queensryche you gay Sarah Brightman fans get the hell out of here!

  • wow, this is the older version, they have another version that is much better...no one else has heard it?

  • Wow...this is beyond pathetic. Tate is really over produced this, jsut to make it palpable.I love Queensryche, but this is gruesome.

  • I laugh at all the people slamming this song.

    Traditionalists. Bah.

  • @TheJokinly I agree 100%, I can't stand elitists.

  • cum on they are metal

  • LOOOOOOOL :D:D:D:D omfg what happened to this song :D omfg

  • Hahahahahahaha this is the most hilarious cover I've heard in quite some time.

  • Love this song, and like Queensryche, but this pairing of the two just doesn't work.

  • I loved this version!

  • They just absolutly all raped all beauty in this song...I just died a bit on the inside with every syable they were "singing" in the song.

  • Delicate, as an elephant dancing over eggs. Wish I never heard this.

  • Hahahaaha! I know right? So far I think Leaves eyes' acoustic version is the best, followed by Sarah Brightman.

  • simply awful

  • haaaaaaaa

  • Amazing how it can destroy all beauty in this song...

  • True

  • wow, Awesome cover, or what?

    I like this version =D

  • is the vocalist castrated??

  • You're an idiot.

  • really? next time you call some one that you should take a look in the mirror

  • Yes, you should take a look in the mirror and look at the other guy standing next to you, since he might be an idiot.

  • I prefer My Dying Bride's version!

  • Wow, awesome! One which album is this cover version? I love the band!

  • Hey cool video thks for the upload ...where can i find this version of the song?

and where is the image of the tatoo at 1:06? is it inside a booklet? thank u !! :)

  • the sounds alot like judas priest, but damn one of the most kick ass cover ever.

  • wems spass macht - ok - ich finde es is einfach dreck

  • excellent!!

  • YPEREPOS

  • Listened to Sarah Brightman´s and Haley Westenra´s version before. LOL

  • lol

  • Goddamn Geoff hits some high notes here, this shows how amazing talent he has as a singer.

  • Hell yeah he is...

    Tate is the SHIT!

  • If you like high notes like Tate's...

Listen to Tim "Ripper" Owens, And "Stryper."

  • this song really is a great song for Geoff to sing. He really does have a beautiful voice!!

  • This cover is one of the few that out does the original. I think this is awesome!! This brings out more emotion than the original. Not only with Geoff Tate's vocals, but it would make a great instrumental as well.

  • If ever there was a song Queensryche should have covered, it was "One" by Three Dog Night. It practically begged for Tate's soaring leads and the dramatic background vocals.

  • Oh. They're good! I didn't think before that this song would work on metal. But they did a decent job...I guess it really just depends on the musicians. :)

  • Geoff Tate - the best voice EVER! *--*

  • Oh man, are you guys kidding me?! What are you, deaf? Queensryche's acoustic version is TERRIBLE! Out of tune, off key, terrible. This one is light years ahead of that unplugged one.

  • It's true that Simon and Garfunkel have a unique version of this medieval folk tune (their counterpoint, "Canticle," adds something indelible), but Queensryche are doing a creditable job of metaling it up, don't you think? I mean the soft original doesn't suffer too badly for the ramped-up sound they've given it, to my mind. And I WILL check out the more acoustic version of it, as RobertM suggests-- no point in rushing to conclusions.

  • its the real old song that came from mid ev times.likeover 700 years..

  • Great really great song in this version even better than the original good

  • Well this is a treat...First time i heard this particular version of this track!I 've got the

2 other versions, one being from the unplugged show. And the other is from a 2 song disc import they had out from the empire recordings...This recording sounds like they did it during the rage 4 order days sweet!

  • great w the beautiful music

  • If i remember correctly, there's also an acoustic version of this song by Geoff Tate.

  • They seem to have about 4 different versions of it. To think an old Folk Song has lasted this long through the ages and sounds great in their multiple renditions and in Simon & Garfunkle's rendition...

    Pretty damn awesome!

  • yeah, I found it by searching "Her names sake" they used that recording as a backing for a few scenes from a movie.

  • I'm a major metal hard rocker but nobody has come even close to topping Simon & Garfunkel on this tune. It's all the harmonies they did that made their version so brilliant. I think with modern recording someone could top Simon & Garfunkel's performance but not their arrangement.

    watch?v=XEhAXQ5QQzs

  • Terrible version of a beautiful song...

  • Thanks a lot for uploading this. It shows the real progressive side of Queensryche!!! Love it.

  • Apparently lots of people have to play this song. The originator was of the midevil times. It wasn't that complicated but for some people they miss the notes that make all the sense. The flute will seperately play the right notes for you.

  • This isn't Queensryche.

  • didnt enjoy it chiefs - love me metal but garfunkel simon will rest easy

  • Hmmmm I love this band but I would have left this tune to Simon & Garfunkle. It's just not a heavy tune so it sounds stressed. This band does great on soft tunes as well so why they decided to rock the hell out of this little folk tune is beyond me. Would have been very cool in his dark low voice with acoustic guitars to carry the original intent of the tune. JMHO

  • I've got a version on a cassette single that is much better than this version. It's more what you're looking for. Sounds like it might also be on Empire from one of the comments below.

  • There IS an acoustic version on YT, as well. Check it out; it's fantastic.

  • Just found that thanks. I like that version a lot better.

    watch?v=lcwQlGjNqrs

  • I agree. Tate in his low register and acoustics would have been perfect. I am a true metal head and QR fan but I love the S&G original much better than this. Trashed it, IMO...

  • Yes, QR is an awesome metal band. However, this folk tune doesn't seem to be working for them imho. At least this version is way off the mark. This is still an amazing band with a very amazing singer. But like I said this tune is best left to the soft vocal style of Simon & Garfunkle. That's just what this tune really is.

  • btw, they did do this version which is much better.

    watch?v=ItBv3niixZA&feature=related

  • Look for one of Queensryche's other versions - they have several. I have a feeling you'll find one to your liking without all the high registers and with more of an acoustic backing (I just listened to such a version a few minutes ago).

  • Finally I found this song! Thanks for uploading!

  • KICK ASS!!!!

  • so powerful, \m/

  • No one sings like Geoff Tate He is the KING

  • hahahaha This version is funny XD

  • Well, thi certainly was... different. But not exactly bad.

  • where can i get this version?

  • Why was the more recent remake video taken off. Please put it back!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not bad for a metal cover.

  • awesome !!! Queensryche has a version as a bonus track on EMPIRE i think its from the UNPLUGGED its awesome!

  • Nope, that was another version, the unplugged is on MTV recording, but the one as bonus track on Empire is different.

  • Yes, because this is actually by Myth, one of Tate's earlier bands.

The Queensryche version (on Empire) I'd say is a better version musically, he sings up at this range for 2 verses and the other 3 are down the octave, but it is a better, more rounded piece.

    Love them both though.

  • This song is not by Myth. This song was written long ago in the middle ages 1500s? But, it has been covered countless times since then.

  • Yeah I didn't say the song is, but *this* (the cover) is by Myth.

The general tune is by Simon and Garfunkel, but the words/lyrics/poem were from the 15-1600s.

  • This song is taken from the Myth demo, where Tate used to sing and no other members of Ryche were there.

    Anyway, this is brilliant!

  • Epic!!!

  • THIS ROCKS

  • Queensrÿche has some good tunes, but I was hoping that their rendition of Scarborough Fair was a lot better than this.

It just seems a bit messy arrangement wise. Hey, I'm expecting a bunch of "thumbs downs" now, but it's just my opinion.

  • Check out Geoff Tate's Myspace page. He's currently got a much more polished version of the song up there. It's in a lower key (his voice is getting older ya know) but the entire presentation is excellent.

  • you gotta hear the more modern version. Like on the "Sign of the times" greatest hits double disc collection. Or the unplugged version. They are alot better.

  • Geoff Tate, he has the most incredible voice, this song is testament to him and his four octave range.

  • @link48010 yes :) - crazy how high it can go

  • They seem to be losing thier hair. Long hair rocks. Too many short hair calculating nerds who kiss butt

  • Geoff Tate grew his hair long again.....but next thing you know he'll look like a skin head lol Eddie Jackson has long hair and so does Michael Wilton, Scott Rockenfeld is losing his hair lol.

  • song is great... :)

  • wtf?! I have the Myth version, but never heard this...there are so many Queensryche demos!

  • I had another version, too...

    Wonderful....

  • damn it's been a long time since i've listened to this.

  • Damn, love that voice!

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAWESOME DUDE!!!!!!!

Thanks for uploading this!!! Absolutely amazing rendition of a great song!

  • Hey, who thinks the back tat in this collage rocks!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you

  • Just came across this song...holy SHIT it rocks! I've never heard this version before...just the version they put on CD many years back. Thanks for this - it's awesome! Just celebrated my 25th anniversary of my first concert on 9/17/08 - Queensryche! :)

  • Tate is the greatest ever!!!

  • I love Queensryche. I love Operation: MindCrime. But...1:05 has to be one of the single most stupid things I have ever seen.

  • Holy Shit, never heard this version, Geoff is fucking amazing, why Am i suprised? just awesome to hear something ive never heard before, liked the other version, but this is out of this world, He sustains that high register throughout the whole song!!

  • surgpath24: Tate is amazing, always has been too. Never heard this version before and is just fantastic.

  • Someone put up the other Queensryche version, its better. Not sure this is even Queensryche

  • ok, the other version is excellent in its own right, but there is no way you can not know this is ryche, and geoffs phenominal voice

  • haha OK well now that I found the other version I'm not so pissed off

  • This is fuckin rad.

  • wow, this is a much older version from what's on the Empire album.

  • holy crap, what cd is this on????

  • AFAIK: The days before the Empire, 1983. Demo or bootleg, I don't know. But this song was recorded under the name of The Myth.

  • oh Geoff....who has a voice like you???!!! I didn't know you sang this!! AWESOME! You have one of the greatest voices ever!!! I always thought so!

  • very different from the original, bus still very good !!!!

  • hail!

  • wow, I never heard this version before.

    Thanks.

I like the other version better, but this is still important, it seems
