as a british colombian (canadian) i was completely at a loss for words when i saw this happen live. and i remember thinking what the hell are unprotected steel posts doing at the end of the track like that?! and if i remember correctly it almost took a couple of other people being seriously hurt on that corner before anything was done about it. i really feel for the family of that poor guy. this was completely preventable and should have never happened.

The Canadian Olympic Committee should have been held responsible for the death of this young man. The possibility of exiting, flying off of, the luge track should have been ensured, not possible. Applying padding to a fixed steel beam would have done nothing to prevent his death.

The walls on the opposite side of the steel beams should have been way higher. Moreover, the speed for such this sport is far to fast and extremely dangerous. Also, support padding should have been placed every last one of those steel beams...I can only imagine how hard his body and the back of his head felt the impact after being thrust against those steel beams going nearly 90 mph....even with his helmet on, the impact was felt.

going that fast you don't process anything....it was trying to slow down coming out of turn 16 but couldn't and the way he hit the wall catapulted him off the track....when you hit a steel beam going that fast death is instantaneous....he didn't feel a thing.

@hockeydude1239 they did cpr within one minute and other procedures.. it wasnt for "show" but to genuinely try to save his life. reports say he died at the hospital... not on the scene. If your family member has a accident be sure to tell the medics just to pronounce him/her dead, and dont bother with cpr or any means of resuscitation since you think that way.. In fact you can get a legal DNR order ordering any medics to not attempt to resuscitate, maybe you should look into that for yourself
