Tonight my dog and I heard this! The sound continued for about 10 minutes, "circling", like a bird flying back and forth. Petunia kept looking and "woofing" in different directions, so I knew she was tracking it as it moved. I spent about 15 minutes Googling before finding this video. Spot on!! We must have stumbled close to its night hunting ground and it walked back and forth along the ridge in "protest". I've seen many foxes and tracks, but my first vocal encounter...and what an encounter!!

I am trying to find a scream that sounds like what we heard last night...sure enough, this video did make my dogs go absolutely insane (and they hear me play videos all the time) like they did last night, but the screams are no where near long enough... do fox make longer noises than this?
I remember hearing a foxes scream about 6 years ago, it was right outside my house. Sounded like someone was being murdered, it was ridiculously loud. My family and I ran outside because we had a cat that likes to sleep outside. We see my cat huddled up next to a tree with the fox about 10 feet away looking at him. My brother scared away the fox and saved the kitteh. :3 Poor kitty was shaking

Now just about every night ( usually around 11:00) I hear this God awful screaming coming from the field across from my house. I was scared I thought it was an animal in distress or worse (a cougar!) That sound is real creepy. So now I know that it's the fox! What a relief!!

@Gameupdate14 I've heard something very similar to what you're describing. The guy I was with said Cougar or Panther. Listened to both here on youtube, sounded NOTHING like either. Sounded just like a blood curtling woman screaming.
@Gameupdate14 Yes, a fox can sound like a woman shrieking, even more so than in this video. Also, as far as I know all types of cats are capable of the "Woman shrieking" type noise. I once heard a Bobcat that sounded like a lady was being killed out back. Fox can also make human type coughs, and honestly, I don't live in a rural area, but you'd be surprised at what you hear at night when you stay up a lot. So many common animals make noises we rarely hear.

Geez when I first heard this call a few years back it sounded like a screaming woman to me. And then I realized that it must be an animal. Which made me think of the Little House books when Pa recounted his father's encounter with a panther and how it sounded like a woman's scream. I stayed inside at night for a while after that.

its just past midnight where i live and i just heard that sound. at first i thought some dog or kid was hurt so i ran outside to find a fox in the middle of our front yard... i nearly had a heart attack XD

I heard this last night! Freaked me out! I have heard it before but it didn't last as long. I thought it was an owl that was killing some poor animal. Sounds just like a woman screaming. It was a fox...unbelievable.

The same thing happened to me last night, too! We called the police and then our neighbor researched it this morning. We really thought we were going to wake up to hearing about a woman's mutilated body found in our city on the news. D:

its 'itslikeatanktop' mum ere....my daughter asked me what i was doin on this page and told her about the creepy noises id been hearing over the past few years..first time i heard it thought it was some guy getting beat up every wkend! then started to think maybe it was a banshee! THE NOISE IS SOOO CREEPY AT 3AM!....glad to get it all cleared up lol

how about this, yes, me too I have kept hearing this every now & then late nite, well tonite I looked out in the back, put an outside light on, looked out there a while, a coyote goes right by BUT that noise remained to the far right! Coincidence or was that fox crying for something? Well, thanx youtube posters, for same w/ me, I had enough & had to google coyote noises & came along this, clicked on the fox ones & there it was, finally figured out what the heck it was. Goodbye to being scared!

THATS WHAT THAT IS!!!! ever since I was a kid I would hear this freaky ass thing screaming right in the woods outside my window and it used to scare me so bad. I heard it again tonight and finally decided to get to the bottom of it.

i hear these noises coming from the nearby fields, i seriously thought it was a bird or something! but then i realised it was a fox. It isnt for territory it is for regrouping/communicating.

This scared the hell out of me until today when I discovered they were foxes, It was being talked about on my news channel.
Turns out this noise is made by the female Fox calling out to her cubs to come to her

I heard one of these tonight. It was about 2am and I live in a built up housing area in England and sometimes we get foxes coming up our road during the night and I have only heard these screaming sounds a few times in the past and didn't know what they were. Well tonight I have the windows wide open and I'm sitting here at the computer and all of a sudden I hear these loud AAAAHH screams coming from the street outside!! Thought a woman was being murdered, my heart was racing.

I can hear this right now; I live about 30 seconds away from woods.
It wakes me up at night and scares me so much; I have to hide under the covers.
When they fight or are killing an animal or something; it sounds like a woman getting murdered.

yo me and my friends were baked as a cake and we heard this while in my backyard. we all thought it was a woman getting raped or some shit and grabbed garden tools as weapons, pitchforks, shovel, ect. all 5 of us looked pretty nuts carrying them but it was kind of hilarious to see.. i couldnt figure out what the animal was until this video, so thanks!!

Holy Crap. i never heard anything like that before tonight at about 1:00 AM. I thought it was someone screaming on the other side of my window, then I started getting creeped out. Grabbed a .38 and a 9mm to investigate...lol... CREEPY!!!

I was outside having a campfire..and all of a sudden, i heard a scream that was coming from my field..it was far up in the field..it was very loud..it sounded like a human scream..i don't know if it was a fox..i've heard it many times but i still don't know what it is...is it a fox...or is it something else?

@Gameupdate14 I've heard something very similar to what you're describing. The guy I was with said Cougar or Panther. Listened to both here on youtube, sounded NOTHING like either. Sounded just like a blood curtling woman screaming.

@Gameupdate14 Yes, a fox can sound like a woman shrieking, even more so than in this video. Also, as far as I know all types of cats are capable of the "Woman shrieking" type noise. I once heard a Bobcat that sounded like a lady was being killed out back. Fox can also make human type coughs, and honestly, I don't live in a rural area, but you'd be surprised at what you hear at night when you stay up a lot. So many common animals make noises we rarely hear.

I had one scare the crap outta me last night. I had the windows open, then I woke up to this. Thought someone was killing my neighbors dogs or something. I ran outside in my underwear like a moron. I have dubbed it "Hell Beast" until I looked up the noise here, now I now it was a fox!

Gawd, I heard this at midnight last night and it creeped me out. There's a large area of brush near my house with tons of foxes in it and that was the first time I'd ever heard this sound!

My grandpa used to tell me about how when he was working as a policeman, he hated making thr rounds near the zoo because for some reason he'd always hear the sounds of a child crying and saying 'help me, help me!' and could never find said child.
Yeah, it was actually the sound a peacock makes.

Geez when I first heard this call a few years back it sounded like a screaming woman to me. And then I realized that it must be an animal. Which made me think of the Little House books when Pa recounted his father's encounter with a panther and how it sounded like a woman's scream. I stayed inside at night for a while after that.
