  • I have been wanting to make a waterfall thanks.

  • Awesome idea...now I know what I"m doing this weekend. Thanks!

  • cute

  • Thanks! I really appreciate it!

  • A year later after your video helped me with making the fall, I now realize I used a smaller pump than I should have. What gph size pump did you use for your fall? Thanks.

  • @kingjeffishere Beckett (Model W1150) 1100 gph pump for waterfall

  • i got the worlds cheepest way cover up ur filter for ur aquarium

(before u rage this is for aquarium use only)

get that thing for ur tank with the little holes and water comes out make sure thats coverd with idk (the covering is optional)put like a rock on the side of ur tank on the glass and make the sprayer thing shoot out on it (u dont need that thing u can do it with any filter but i like that 1 becuz it just rocks

(if u have that wall filter that drips down dont do anything to it)my choice

  • I went to Lowes this afternoon, found everything except for the 1-1/4 hose adapter. They have 1' . Do you or anybody know where to find it? It's hard to find. Not at home depot either. thanks

  • @aly3739 I was just reading your comment about the fitting you are looking for. I found it at Lowes, but I found mine near the ABS fittings. I think most Lowes stores have the same configuration so I want to say it was one isle over from the pvc fittings. Some hold in the wall hardware stores have them as well.

  • the making of the weir and the adhesive everything I see was top nitch but that milk crate will rust and leech toxins into your koi pond killing the fish off slowly i have seen it done. but like i said everything else top notch

  • I made you waterfall after my wife found this. It's great having this in my back yard. Still having a little trouble trying to keep it from leaking from around the stone spillway. I'll send some pics when it's done. Thank You.

  • where did you find the lock nut, the only thing i cant find

  • @jnkir7 Plumbing dept at Lowes.

  • @1legacyllc what kinda pump do you have

  • @MIKExDAxSTOPPA26 Beckett (Model W1150)

  • Thanks for the great idea and easy to follow directions - just finished making mine - total cost for the spillway was $8.67, total cost for my pond (approx 4 by 8 feet) was $278 including two pumps, pond liner and field stones. THANKS AGAIN!!!

  • Hi there... Thought you might like to see how my weir turned out. Once again...thank you very much for your video. "Rico" "Our Pondless Backyard Waterfall" by Ricovette.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this with us. A few weeks ago I priced a weir for my waterfall and they wanted $90.00. I followed your instructions to the "T" and it works beautifully! Total cost: $11.00 and some change. Thanks again... "Rico"

  • @Ricovette Thanks for the follow up. I'm glad everything worked out for you. Enjoy your pond.

FYI: I no longer have the basket sitting on the bottom of the pond. I put the swamp cooler padding and bag of lava rocks in the weir itself. Cover it with a couple pieces of flagstone and you're good to go. It looks much nicer and it's much easier when it's comes time to swap out the pad (filter).

  • i think i have the cheapest pond.

i found the foil in an gardners dumster

the pumps got 3 in total 2 in use and i bought only one of them

stones from the frontyard and of my vacation.

water is from the ditch that runs past my garden (A)

  • You might not need to use any electricity in that case. From what I remember in biochemistry, water is polar, thus you can just get it going & water will use capillary action to keep flowing. In other words, if you're able to suck the water up the hose, the water should just flow because of its molecular structure. I might try that out.

  • @TheBoaConstrictor95 Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. You can use a siphon to move water, but only if the destination is lower than the origin. It wouldn't work for a waterfall unless you have an anti-gravity device.

  • i like your idea of the waterfall ...i am going to use it this weekend to build a small water fountain..i probably have to find a smaller black plastic...which i will find at office depot...thanks for the idea...

  • Hi

can you please tell me the part details if I want to use a 560gph pump ? I am planning to make a 6 x 2 feet stream. Because I think if I follow your specs for my stream, it would look too strong and water will over spilled to the sides since the height I am thinking would be 1.5feet. Any suggestions are welcome, thank you

  • Good job! I am going to try and make the exact spillway for a pondless waterfall in my back yard. Good video.

  • impressive i favorited this video im going to use this method

  • thanks for the idea, i'll give it a go

  • thanks alot ,i'll try it an see how it go's

  • Great video, but 20 bucks doesn't include the cost of the pump, which had to be quite some money! Also, not sure if you go the rock and pond liner for free, but all that stuff will bring your price up. Please include those prices in your title.

  • I'm in the process of building a pond/stream in my yard and am working on the waterfall right now. Thank you, this is good information. I know oppinions are like @%^#$ but, if I may... I really like everything... but was thinking the steel retainer nut might rust fairly quick and I'm pretty sure they make PVC retainer nuts. Anyway, just a thought. Thanks again, I wasn't sure how I was going to do mine and now I do.

  • I am from the uk and I can not find one of the no5 storgage bins anywhere please help

  • AWESOME Video!!!!! I wish I would have seen this b4 I bought mine @ the pond store - but It gives me an idea if I want 2 expand my waterfall. My pond originally started out as one of those plastic prefab jobs 9 years ago. Now it has evolved into something short of my little piece of paradise that is 2x as big, twice as deep (almost 6ft @ the deepest end) with a bridge going over the water and a (now matured) weeping cherry. I LOVE your video I know your pond it awesome now - it takes time :)

  • nice

  • Hey, um how well does this filter work? I have a turtle and he needs really good filter.

  • great video...appreciate your ingenuity! There was no way I was spending the crazy bucks on a weir and now I don't have to! nice job....

  • Wow nice job ! I made a weir from duct taping a dust pan to a upside down whiskey 1/2 barrel that is my little pond. haaaaaaaaaaaa Of course I am going to create faux rock to cover everything. Makes a real nice sheet of "rain" droplets. I hear ya about the prices on weirs. geeez

  • cool video im thinking about starting an outdoor pond in my backyard. so what do you do in the cold cold winter months? does it kill all your fish? what do you do?

  • @bubber25 Your fish will survive the winter months if your pond is 36" deep or more. I've had it completely frozen over with 10" slab of ice for a couple months and they did just fine. Thanks for watching!

  • this sounds stupid but where do u connect the hose to?

  • @almieda321 Weir on one end, submersible pump on the other.

  • i am trying to make a low cost garden for 3000 euro's and i am on 2500 now with planting i got a big lucky and i found 3 water pumps that can support a waterfall of a meter hight (googled the number on the pump) but this is a really good idea :P i will try it and post a vid if it works (already got one but that is the old version)

  • @djvdwolf my pond cost just about with pumps foil and stones included 20 euro.

because i also got the foil to make 2 pond and a stream the foil it self was 3x3 and my pond would have been bigger but i had to share the foil with a family member

eventually i needed a 1m2 extra for a entry way with i can finish now so thanks u again

(now i am answering a post of my own but forgot to add this :P)

  • seems you have the mechanical portion worked out but aesthetically speaking its not very pleasing. I would put the pump to the right of the waterfall in its own little area hiding it with some sort of water plant. then after the pump house is in place and screened for debris with an easily removed filter trap fish guard you could do whatever you liked to the pond itself, sand and rocks like the one you used on your spillway. Overall I like your idea just need to follow through with aesthetics

  • @stormpoet76 I got rid of the crate recently. Now I simply have the pump laying on the bottom of the pond. I have a piece of swamp cooler pad sitting on the bottom of the weir with a bag of lava rock on top. Filters just fine and looks MUCH better.

  • hell yeah man thank you for this video i have been trying to figure this out for months

  • @MrGraylynn I'm glad it helped!! :)

  • Nice pond set-up, but the filter in it looks like a shopping cart that fell inside.

  • @My1968Impala Yeah, I got rid of the shopping cart recently. Now I simply have the pump laying on the bottom of the pond. I have a piece of swamp cooler pad sitting on the bottom of the weir with a bag of lava rock on top. Filters just fine and looks MUCH better.

  • @jmoney775 vid please!!!

  • This is AMAZING!!! How ingenious. Thank you for showing the rest of us how to do this, especially when you are on a budget. Looking forward to trying this and adding to my soon to be bachyard water feature! Thanks again.

  • Thank you knew someone out there other than me was thinking they could buid a waterfall. The prices they charge are crazy. Thanks again.

  • Nice!!! An easy do it yourself project. I think I'll make mine multiple tiers by adding a few more of the storage bins. Thanks for the good info!!

  • Just a point the red washer material is also called "plumber's leather".

  • when you bury your hose in the ground, does it freeze or crack the pumps hose?

  • You solved all my pond problems...we have enjoyed our fountain and pond for 2 seasons now...thanks a million!!! See my pond on my page...

  • @tikiroy Very nice! :)

  • what type of pump is that and where can i get one...........

nice work on your pond man...

  • great video, just got back from lowes, but i bought the wrong adaptor for the box,got the right female one,and the lock nuts.the female adaptor wont fit on my 1 1/4 tube,is that the right size tube?

  • Thank you so much for this idea!!! I knew i wanted a waterfall for my pond without spending a boat load! This spillway is perfect!!!!!

  • Thanks for your video. I have one question. How big is the bin you are using in this video? I am in the process of building my own pond right now. Can you give me some tips? thanks, Tom

  • what type of pump is that and what is the GPH? where can i get one? pond stores are way overpriced on almost everything.

  • @redfiresvt Beckett W1800. Check Ebay.

  • I was thinking about getting a hard plastic pond (preformed)...would this waterfall work for one of those?

  • @musicianmaker010 Absolutely!

  • Excellent video! Expert advice! You should upload your video to Ewisdomtv

  • Cool video! (5 - STARS!)

    Thanks for posting it!

I help run a free Pond share website.

It would be great to have some more pond people join in and share their pictures, videos, and stories.

  • Hello, my name is Henry and I'm from Venezuela, live in an apartment and want to do something similar in my living room but I have only one square meter or so, you can give me an idea to make a small, thanks.

  • good one.. i think you did a great job!

  • You are the man! this is exactly what I was looking for!

    God bless!

  • Nice way to make a waterfall . I don't like that when you look into the pond you see that milk crate and pump. That should be hidden by Rocks or something.

  • Hey the hole drilling tool.. its an inch and a quarter size right? what is that thing called? the piece that goes on drill.. thanks so much. il post my pond once I get this waterfall going.. you savin me a lot of money! instead of getting the biofalls or some fancy thing

  • I call it a 1 1/4" "hole saw".....

  • You did a good job. Thanks for the idea. I will do the same thing. Saves a buck.

  • it will look a lot betta if their was green grass arowned it

  • can you connect 2 or more together if you drill a hole on the other side and connect them to each other. If you have tried this i would be quite interested to here your results. thanks for posting this video one of the best iv watched!

  • where can you get the stones used on the water fall??

  • The flat piece of flagstone was purchased at a landscaping store for a few dollars. The rest was found in the desert for free.

  • desert?? where can i find flag stone in california??

  • Check your local landscaping store. Even Home Depot has flagstone.

  • I can't wait to try it ..thanx

  • How did you decide on the size for your pump?

  • Actually, I purchased the pump before I came up with the idea. I had to fit the parts around the pump. I pretty much decided on this pump because the guy at the pond store told me it would work for the size of the pond I was building.

  • Great video you have also just saved me hundreds of pounds also,Thank you

  • the milk crate is an eye sore it could have been hidden much better

  • you can buy aquarium sealent at just about any hardware store or pet shop.

  • Great to see people being so creative!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this video. It was explained in wonderful detail. Very creative!

  • Could you give me more info about the "waterproof silicone rubber adhesive".

I asked for it at lowes, but that wanted to sell me bathroom silicone! but then I saw silicone for plastic, but said not for use below water line.

    Help!

    Where can I get it

  • Any kind of silicone rubber adhesive will work as long as it's waterproof. I'll post details of the kind I used when I get home from work.

  • The silicon I used was:

GC Electronics 10-150 "Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant"

    Good luck!

  • Thanks. I went to the neighborhood hardware store and found some. Works great. We love the water fall using your weir setup.

    Thanks Again.

  • Thank you for giving it a try!

  • Great video. Glad to see others object to paying unreasonably high prices for products they can build much cheaper. I am using two pumps I got off of ebay for my pond. One is a 2100 GPH pump for a fountain and the other is a 3100 GPH for the waterfall. got both pumps for under $100 per pump and locally here in Canada they are wanting up to $500 per pump. Thanks again for a great video.

  • Thanks man!!! You saved me about $100 Much appreciated

  • what is the gph on that thing? love the creativeness!

  • Nice work on the falls but you really should consider using a bottom drain. That is what I use in all of the ones I build and you can't see any plumbing.

    Keep up the good work.

  • That was totally awesome! I had been expecting to pay close to $200 for a waterfall box. A couple of questions though. (1) How did you get your spill rock to stay horizontal like that. I assume it is fairly heavy. (2) Do you this a person could put 2 or 3 of these down a hill and have a multiple layered waterfall? Thanks so much for posting this video!

  • I set the tank on a solid base but It's not really heavy at all. It probably holds a couple gallons of water when full.

A multiple layer waterfall will work just fine with this setup if you get the right parts. You'd be amazed what your local hardware store would have to get the job done.

    Start digging!

  • looking good!

  • what type of pump? what is the gph?

  • Thank you this video information was incredible I am building a Kio pond this summer as my project and have two ponds. I gained some valuable information from you thank you for your time and good work.

  • nice work thanks for getting back at me with the info. needa clean up the yard though but all around good job. I see now the pads are the filter thats why your pump hasn't gotten clogged yet. =)
