all of the bolt holes for pedals and such are there and the bell housing is the same I've even helped with a few manual swaps in the 8.1 well worth it! Better milage, performance, and SO MUCH MORE FUN!
I've got a 2000 chevy silverado 5.3L V8, I've got dual pipes coming out the back already (instead of the sides) but it was done when my father had the truck, and I dont think the entire exhaust was redone so if it wasnt im gonna do that. I wanna paint it black, and get a full car width push bar. Put some strobes in the headlight housings. A few things to the engine for a wee bit more HP, and then i'll be happy.
@NickLTR Nah, the cops don't pay too much attention to trucks here in Tennessee as long as you are not doing anything too stupid. This is actually the about only vehicle I have ever owned that I have not been pulled over in (knock on wood)
@cowboy820 Oh yeah, ZF 6 speed, I love rowing my own gears, this was originally a Denver truck, can't beat the control of manual trans in the mountains. Sadly GM does not offer manual trans or big blocks in its trucks anymore.
i could be wrong on this, but strait piped to me is no cats and no muffler. He says in the description that it was cut off after the cats so cats still in means its not strait piped. but i was wrong to ALLxTeRrAiN, you didnt claim they were so sorry about that. sounds good tho!
@manderson008 Oh sorry I misread I thought it said both were out but I agree Straight piped should be all pipe nothing else but yep it does sound good.
@manderson008 Yeah I never claimed they were straight piped but it says the cats out and the muffler so it sounds like it is to me, could you explain to me why its not straight piped? I'm not tryin to be a ass I just wanna know lol
@GfByZach i have no clue what that means... but my little car is an Celica All-Trac, coming in at 250Hp and 3200lbs. it would be the shit outta this 5000 pound hunk of junk
@lazyboy2oo6 And your dumb your trying to sound smart by telling us specifications of a vehicle that you know nothing about but the truck weighs wayy more then 5000 pounds its probably more like at least 8000 pounds. My truck weighs 6400 pounds and its a half ton with a 5.3. This ones got a 8.1 and its built way heavier with the bigger rear end and all so take that into account as well.Do us all a favor and get off this guys video because you obviously have no idea what your talking about. Thanks
No they are attracted to big and loud and I'm not fucked My truck has true duel Flowmasters on it and sounds pretty clean I just want something louder. And as far as it being fast its basically a stock truck what do you expect? They're made for hauling and off roading not hot roding around in your ghetto looking for prostitutes like your mother and sister on the corners. But if you wanna see some fast trucks go to the drag strip get out once in a while and do your math before you try to argue.
"I always like the way my old truck sounded straight piped ('99 1500 w/5.3) so I decided to give it a try with this truck" i agree. i had the same thing on my old 99 5.3. they sound amazing straight
Different strokes, I liked it better with the Flowmaster 70's. After living with 40's on my 2500HD for six years I'm ready to swap `em out for quieter 70series mufflers. Too much interior noise with the 40's.
Come on man, you know no 325 cubic inch ls engine is not a big block. They don't sound remotely the same. We did the same thing to a friends 2000 silverado. He thought for the longest time his had a 350. Till I explained what an LS engine was. We put a turnout on his just after the cat. It did sound really nice.
@420witchdoctor Just saying it's actually a 323 they got rid of 327's 35 years ago. I like 350's too i don't know why guys especially Vette people make a big deal about 327's.
@BigCaTnTrucks For some reason a lot of people think a big block is anything with more than 6 liters of displacement but that is incorrect. Some auto manufacturers during the late 60s needed engines with way more torque to push the high performance cars and land yachts of the day around. So they developed larger (physically) engines to cope. If you put a big block next to an LS1 or small block the difference is obvious.
did the echo tips/echo cans actually help any? i hear they'll change the sound by makin em deeper when the exhaust flow comes through it echo's in the larger tip? is this true?
Hey fokes go and check out my video of my 2000 chevy z71 1500 with flowmaster 70 series. rate leave a comment. i just bought these flowmaster 70 series and put them on myself i love them they have the perfect sound go check it out, just click on my username and the video is posted on my channel.
it doesn't need backpressure because its a naturally aspirated engine if it was a turbodiesel it would need backpressure because the turbocharger is run off of exhaust gasses
Uhhh.... no. N/A engines need backpressure. The only way you can benefit from no backpressure on an N/A engine is by having a radical cam and set of heads that supports high flow in the high RPM range. No back pressue on a stock motor like this means a loss of a bit of horsepower and an even larger loss of torque. And for turbocharged engines, you want NO backpressure lol. The turbo being mounted creates backpressure. After the turbo, you want NO backpressue. Turbo exhuasts need to flow freely.
@DontTread0nMe1776 damn.... 6 speed, thats gotta be badass. So does that mean that they're still pretty popular? If so, how hard would it be to find one for a good price? I would REALLY love to have a mid 90's body style with a 5 speed, let me know. Thanks
Can anyone tell me why in the hell every 8.1 with anything besides the stock exhaust has that one single pop between gears...i've owned 2 of em and they both had it.....flowmasters.....magnaflows....straights it pops
ohh shit. i meant its NOT A Diesel. And a Diesel needs ZERO Backpressure to operate efficeintly, where as a Gas engine must have Backpressure to produce low end power efficiently..
i already know that thanks moron, maybe if you read the comment you would have responded correctly, i was just saying most people i know (that dont know shit about cars) say that not enough exhaust backpressure burns valves...wrong...and i'm in auto school right now as we speak...funny you should mention that
You need back pressure dumbass. Quit trying to act smart. Let me guess, some race cars do it so you think its just okay to do. Without having an incredibly large race cam, ported heads, and a tune to match, running no restriction on the exhaust will LOSE you power. I'm not talking about race cars here. I'm talking about streetable daily driven cars... like the one in this very video. He's losing power and a considerable amount of torque. And it sounds terrible to boot.
yea you need SOME backpressure for power, BUT NOT TO KEEP YOUR FUCKING VALVES FROM BURNING, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE! READ THE GOD DAMN COMMENTS CORRECTLY AND RESPOND ACCORDINGLY! and yes, it sounds like shit
@Honda2x409 they stopped putting the 8.1 in the HD trucks because of gov't mandatory fuel economy regulations. know your shit before you talk, that's all.
No, actually they don't make BBCs anymore... at least not for production use in GM pickups. There haven' t been any big block HD GM trucks since 2007.

ahhh yes BIG BLOCK!! the only kind of gasoline engine that should be in a truck!!! and i'm a Dodge guy. But I love the big block Chevy HD'S. shame they quit making them. hold on to that truck bud.
i had my van staight piped for a few months and i loved it. it sounded soo bad ass but then the exhaust broke so i had to fix it with a glasspack that i had. still nice sounding but i miss it being straight piped.
wow fucking crazy. My friend has a Yukon XL with the 8.1 and its pretty amazing. Big Blocks are where its at. Too bad every day that goes by big blocks get a little more hated on :(. His truck gets 6-9mpg street and 11 highway.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
so u know when a ricer goes your car window and they have a stupid loud ass fart can on it and its just like omg that sounds horrible...well thats how ur truck sounds when u let off the gas
Yes, ZF S650 6 speed, with its 5.79 granny gear through the 2.72 low range in the transfer case and 4.10 axle gears this makes a crawl ratio of 65:1, multiplying the 8.1's 455 ft lbs of torque to put almost 30,000 ft lbs to the wheels :)
you just have to have and ear it dosen't have to be trained. You can also tell if he is just shifting an automatic because gmc changes the idle position \ sensor so the manual cars and trucks drop rpms faster
haha my 99 is straight piped too, but accidently lol i hit a bump and it broke around the inlet of my muffler and drug the ground I had to cut it off in the pouring rain
fuck yeah, awesome sound man!

is that a 6 speed?
quadder88 2 years ago 4
you can tell its a manual when he is just leaving the drive way. If you have a trained ear like some do.
CarCrazyMike82 2 years ago
ik its a manual im not that retarded. i was just wondering if it was a 6 speed since it is an 8.1L
quadder88 2 years ago
Yes, ZF S650 6 speed, with its 5.79 granny gear through the 2.72 low range in the transfer case and 4.10 axle gears this makes a crawl ratio of 65:1, multiplying the 8.1's 455 ft lbs of torque to put almost 30,000 ft lbs to the wheels :)
DontTread0nMe1776 2 years ago
I couldn't have said it better myself
cnocher02 2 years ago
you just have to have and ear it dosen't have to be trained. You can also tell if he is just shifting an automatic because gmc changes the idle position \ sensor so the manual cars and trucks drop rpms faster
nachos1990 2 years ago
