Since this is attempting a movement of dressage, the piaffe, I'll explain it in dressage terms. The blocks of the training pyramid go as follows: 1. Rhythm 2. Relaxation 3. Connection 4. Impulsion 5. Straightness 6. Collection. You must go in order from 1-6. Without rhythm, you cannot acquire relaxation and the pyramid will fall. This horse does not have rhythm.

If it were correctly stepping up into the connection (although, I don't know any horse that would step into a dead, unchanging pull), it would be stretching its head and neck down and forward as the upper level horses do in my videos.

He will be in a crowded market, like a busker would be or a trained monkey, so the horse isn't allowed to move. This owner has trained this animal well, the horse is controlled very well. If you want to criticize the owner, try this on your own horse! You can't teach a horse anything other than "when" to do a natural movement.

In old writings on spanish dressage training, this exact technique is described. Even that the young horse will need to be closely driven, and will attempt to levade in the early stages is described. If you go to vienna and watch the high school demonstarate, you will see them doing this exercise between poles. People are freaking out because they dont understand the process, and that a sound horse SHOULD be able to handle this work. Thanks for posting early training stages!

Nails randomly hammered into their hoof, caustic substances repeatedly applies on and around their coronet band (horse version of human cuticle) then adding carefully hidden straps and tiny chains usually painted to match horses foot color to conceal them all to cause severe enough pain that the horse when asked to trot or step like this, tries to avoid it's own weight to lessen pain. this is something taught to paso fino horses to display the correctness of their 4beat gaits by the sounds of the footfalls. But they don't make them stand in one place while doing it. Why teach this horse to do that with a trot? He is obviously trying his best to do what the handler is asking of him.

When a horse snorts in this way, he is under emotional stress.
If you listen to them snort when they are relaxed, you can tell the difference.
You don't even have to watch, you can hear the tension.
