I've had the pleasure of visiting NYC numerous times and love it. Just not for the skyline.
A lot of cities have great skylines but a lack of life at street level. NYC of course has one of the most dense clusters of highrises in the world, but who cares if Dubai and Hong Kong have taller and flashier buildings? NYC is all about the inexhaustable attractions, the people and the excitement at street level. No other city can match that.
Absolutely correct. Whilst enormous and iconic the NY skyline is far from aesthetically pleasing. Downtown with its kitsch depression era gothic pastiches is particularly depressing. Chicago, with its clean lines, vast heigth, etc is No. 1
citys like dubai hong kong, chicago build skycrapers for their atractiveness
nyc has older buildings dating from the late 1800- early 1900s so the buildings are older build out of the fact that they had no choice but to build taller buildings to for the population boom at the period unlike how dubai builds beautiful tall skyscrapers in the middle of the desert for no one to see like retards while two miles away lay little shanty towns in farm developements
I totally agree with you about Dubai but both Chicago and Hong Kong are "true cities" as well. Both are IMO aesthetically more attractive especially Chicago. I don't mean to insult NYC which is a superb city, one of the tiny handful of true alpha A cities. I am making an aesthetic point.
that true man and the freedom tower is destroying New York on the real, it is built to attract and that is not New York, New York is Classic, not flashy, and those towers ruins it, man just built the twin towers,
Dubai is a growing city and a new one, can't judge it yet, 20 years ago it was a desert with no sight of human life, within those years it has risen to one of the worlds #1 attraction, currently hold the tallest building, and has some of the wealthiest people and corporations investing money in it. Even though now its ran into financial problems, give it another 10 years and we will see a city replicating our future city skylines
@itom85 You can hate as much as you want. They have ran into deep shit financially I agree with you, but you really think 100 billion is anything to them. PLEASE! 100 billion to an oil rich country is like a teenager loosing $10
@itom85 You are being an idiot by believing in TIME magazine lol, an American written magazine. I have family living in Dubai, not to mention a friend that just returned to the USA from there all of which say the city continues to grow, more and more businesses are opening, that its hard to even find a lease in an office building because they are in such high demand. You can argue all you want you are just a hatter!
@itom85 No actually i am 20 going to school for personal finance and business management. But nice try. Please don't read and base your facts of TIME magazine they always are shitting on other countries because they know America is so behind that all they do is post stupid shit and false facts. I agreed with you on the facts that Dubai has ran into financial problems, but you are saying $100 billion is anything to an oil rich country and group of investors.
@itom85 Our GDP is 14 trillion yes, but we barely get any surplus from it because it all gets dumped into our programs. So 1.3 trillion is a lot. And obama's massive spending isn't helping at all.
what a skyline...there's nothing. Since 9/11 they have no skyscrapers...only high rises. Freedom tower will bring some back but not much..Chicago's skyline is better by far. CHICAGO
So then how about you take both Chicago and Obama and shove them up your fat ignorant stupid ass?? You know NOTHING about 9/11 unless you were actually THERE, people like you don't deserve to have freedom.
New york is fucking shitty no WTC! OMG

Houston has a nice skyline but no foot traffic..Its like a ghost town when there is no retail on the ground level.
zyzyzy121212 2 years ago
Wow. It's not very attractive is it? Great city of course, but a relatively poor skyline.
Still, I'd rank it third in North America behind Chicago and Toronto. What it lacks in overall beauty it certainly makes up for in size!

are you retarded?
Dubai is BEGGING the royal family, and abu dabi the bail them out..
Construction projects have stopped, and worldwide opinion of the city is destroyed, lead by TIME magazines "DUBAI: ITS NO MIRAGE"
saying that 100 billion is "NOTHING" to them? Thats fucking absurd. Thats almost as much as Dubais entire GDP.
dont be an idiot,

finance huh? where exactly did you lean that if your debt is appoaching your GPD youy have "nothing to worry about"
People say the US debt, at 1.3 trillion is huge.. But they forget the USA's GDP is 14 trillion.. It's not even close.
So yeah, if you're going to school for finance, I suggest you study harder.
Plus, you should defintely do some research on dubais debt, as you obviously dont know anything beyond that its 100 billion.
