I like it. You captured a bit of the genesis spirit here. I usually click off covers within 5 seconds into the song, but I watched the whole thing. Maybe because it's such an obscure song (not to us genesis fans of course) and you did it well. I like the house setting too.
For the record, though, Tony said in the early 80s that it had nothing to do with Dr Who. All the flying, sliding and Sarah Jane-ing don't make it a bad inference, though.
@igenesisproject --thanks for disabusing Robert of the very ridiculous notion that this was about Dr. Who.
I believe I read the same interview as you. It's sort of a dream tale with no specific "message" or reference, which is the open-ended way I like lyrics to be --a narrative, but not explicit, if possible.
Not bad, This isnt an easy song in the first place. Abacab as a whole was a fantastic album. too bad this track, along with you might recall where omitted. Unless your lucky enough to own the rare version of the live album (I have) or the Abacab Complete, your without... sad... Anyway, very good job!
This is really neat. The singer's voice, the acoustic piano, brushes, quotes from Trespass and the whole arrangement make the song sound like how it might've sounded if performed by pre-Collins, pre-Hackett Genesis at a house show in 1969. Great job!
@etkearne Thanks! We did it again last September electric-style at the NC festival ProgDay. It's on our new DVD/Blu-ray if you're interested. Glad you enjoyed this acoustic version.
Yeah, we think so too! We just did it at a "progressive rock festival" PROGDAY in Chapel Hill, NC and there was an uproar when we said we were going to do a song from ABACAB but when we did this one I think they were diggin' it.
That was so awesome! I really think you have the intent and the innocence of the original. I think you made it your own and made something special. Thank you very much for such a nice surprise. Bravo!!! (Off to check out your other stuff and see if I can't find a CD or DVD of you guys, :)
After listening to Three Sides Live I noticed exactly that-that Banks did a more chordal part there. We are starting to do this in an electric set and singer George is doing it on a lead synth.
Ha, ha. Everyone wants "more cowbell" no? He played other songs in the set. In fact we played this electrically in Brooklyn the other night and he did the electric guitar parts then.
Having been in the room that night, I have to say I was blown away. The musicianship needed to pull that one off stood out on that one, as well as the other 3rdegree originals done that night. Thanks guys!

Muy bien, estupenda cancion. ¿donde estará ya Sarah Jane?
skygranada 1 year ago
Sarah Jane es de Dr. Who, la serie de televisión del Reino Unido. Es probablemente escrito sobre ella.

This is excellent. Much respect for covering music that isn't popular but extraordinary. Hard one to tackle too.
Thanks for rectifying Genesis's bad decision to leave the keyboard melody out of the little interlude after "where will you go?" It's beautiful.
Keep it alive; amazing performance.
