  • Love Those Shangri-Las sooooooooo cool!

  • What fun! Shindig!!!! And to think that Shindig was canceled to make room for a new show entitled: "Batman"...Would have rather had Shindig continue instead!!!

  • I want 1965 Mary Weiss so bad!! What is wrong with me?!?! I am half her current age!!

  • I wanna marry the Shangri-Las !..............

  • there is a blonde shindig dancer wearing horn-rim glasses. her name was carole shellyne (sp?). she became a favorite and eventually performed a song on the show called "the girl in the horn-rimmed glasses." i was a junior in high school at the time. those were the days, my friend!

  • 5 people think only chubby checker and teh who sang this.

  • is that Glen Campbell in the Sahara style pants? What is up with THAT?

  • @2fletchers

I know! He was drop dead gorgeous back then, and even he looks silly in them!

  • FAKE!... life was never this entertaining.

  • Pure magic

  • Shindig had some of the best Go-Go dancers of any show

  • @songbuff61 I agree with that.

  • the beatles made this famous but they didnt write it.

  • @vanderdot93 , The Beatles covered this which was a minor hit earlier for the Isley Brothers you know who recorded the big hit of Shout which the Beatles also covered in live shows. Who is the girl that takes the lead after Dobie ? One of the Blossoms perhaps?

  • "Twist and Shout" is a song written by Phil Medley and Bert Berns.

  • tumsabai (36 seconds ago) Spam Marked as spam That was a stupid and racist remark about a bunch of crackers!! You Ugly Moron. Some white singers

were much better than Blacks. And during the 2nd Doo-wop era (1961 to 1963) the italian Americans

and other whites out doo-wopped the Black singers.

  • Old David Crosby looks like a fish out of water, clapping along with that leather poncho swaying. The times they really were a' changin'.

  • That's awesome! I love Twist and Shout and this is the greatest version !!!

  • That's an extremely rare video of all 4 of the shangri las singing live--that's Mary's sister, Betty Weiss singing in between the twins, she almost never appeared live. Amazing!

  • google Long Live Our Love in the videos theres one where they sing Long Live Our Love live.

  • Thank God for youtube! Where else could we see this great stuff? The Byrds and the Shangrilas dancing on the same stage. I watched SHINDIG every Wednesday night religiously.

  • nao so muito mais os beatles

  • the shangri-las make my nose hard. thank you.

  • Beatles version is still the best, nice try though!

  • who john lennon

  • The voice of the host was so pretentious and was made fun of by Rick Dees and others. It was so put on...

  • The Shang's did a very good job. They're voices are magical. But no one can compare to the original "Twist & Shout".

  • anyone ever heard of a guy named john lennon? he did a pretty good job of it!

  • The original Isley Brothers one?

  • No, the beatles did this one.... I think.

  • Actually I was wrong; I assumed the original was the Isleys. the Top Notes recorded it originally under Phil Spector, then the Isley Brothers. It reached it's height of popularity sung by the beatles.

  • FinishedSentences If you really knew ROCK&ROLL you'd know there's only one GOOD VERSION of this song THE ISLEY BROS.

  • WOW CALM DOWN BRO. I was trying to figure out which one Shangrilasfan was talking about as the original (not necessarily the BEST, just ORIGINAL). I thought it was the Isley's, when in fact it was the Top Notes. It's difficult to tell when referring to popular songs of that era. So many cover versions.

Also, I know my rock & roll better than most people my age, thank you very much.

  • FinishedSentences Actually I was thinking about "SHOUT' my mistake.

  • That's the BEST!! I love Twist and Shout and this is the greatest version of all time!!!

  • I know it was Wynn, but the host mentioned Jack E. Leonard as the following week's guest! I could never understand why these people were on teen shows; I assume to draw an older crowd?

  • The networks used emcees (MCs) like Ed Wynn for a good reason: You have to remember the time...this was not long after the 'establishment' thought that rock 'n' roll was a threat to our nation's youth. By having these MCs, they 'tamed' any 'threat' perceived by parents. Besides, these artists were up-and-coming, whereby the MCs were already established and good for the sponsors who were backing these shows.

  • Actually, this is from Shindig's 2nd season. The first season didn't have the guest stars- just Jim doing the intros. Shindig wasn't wanted by any of the networks, but then ABC put it on and it was a surprise hit that everyone tried to copy. That led to the dilution factor which cooled the ratings for Shindig. The guest stars were brought on to try to boost ratings but there were just so many imitators by this time & ABC had tinkered with the show so much it basically killed off the audience.

  • Ed Wynn?? Jack E. Leonard??!!

  • It's Ed Wynn - His moniker was The Perfect Fool.

  • rrrrrrrock on!
