  • In Soviet Russia, Five Folds Ben.....

  • Carries it for 10 months?

  • Why wont he play this live anymore? :'(

  • @Mattjjjj0hackmaster partly because he can't really fit it in to any of his shows. especially with his hit songs like Rockin' the Suburbs, Song for the Dumped etc. It doesn't really fit the vibe. But I agree, he should at least try to.

  • @deathbyneuronics35

Well thats another thing. He dosnt play most of thoes either now :(

Mainly his new songs which is good but alot of his great work is in his old albums. Besids, Brick put him in the spotlight. Half of him fans were probarbly exposed to him through the song. I was anyway and went on to like all his songs.

I think Brick should be standard in his concerts. It is literly the perfect song to me and Im hoping he will play it live in Perth this year as I will be there. *hint* :P

  • 7 people aint rockin the suburbs

  • i don't get how anyone coud have an abortion .... i'd be like, 'but it's my baby!!" ahhhh i just don't understand it.

  • this song pulls on the heart strings every time i hear it

  • This is what's so fucking amazing about Ben Folds. He can do humorous songs, and he can do unbelievably sad, beautiful songs. One of the best musicians still playing.

  • @karlynbensberg25

    Fucking spam bots man.

  • How much does the drummer look like the guitarist from Jimmy Eat World. Haha. This is just an amazing song.

  • abortion is a terrible and devastating thing for everyone concerned. im really sorry for everyone who has been in a situation involving abortion xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx :'( this is an undescribably beautiful song.

  • Beautiful

  • Now that I have found someone/I'm feeling more alone/Than I ever have before.

  • fuck.... and I thought this song was about a brick.... jesus

  • The start of this song is up there with the greatest opening few seconds of any song ever written. Some of the greatest that come to mind are Gimme Shelter by the Stones and God Only Knows by The Beach Boys.

  • Love it !!!!

  • (Ignorant comment here)

  • its sad when u type in brick on youtube and paramore comes up

  • i just think its messed up that they changed the law in au saying that you can abort a child up to 24 weeks. I had a premature baby and there were other baby's around that age fighting for their life in the hospital.

  • @misspowelly They only changed the law in the state of Victoria, not the whole country.

  • Thank you Ben Folds

  • My good friend is getting an abortion, she's too young so we're trashing the baby

  • @32wallace College Humor, Metaphor Free Radio :) Thumbs to you good sir XD

  • beautiful

  • I think abortion is too personal a matter for anyone who has never went through it to have a sensible and balanced opinion on, and even then it's still one-sided, so all of you, shut the hell up.

  • 1:38 eastenders

  • @xaimeeoreillyx

    that's awesome :D

  • He has such an warm and comforting voice. I love listening to this song on rainy winter days.. hmm.. any day actually. :]

  • listen to driving with the brakes on. Another fine piece in the just-had-an-abortion genre

  • I know its her decision, but in my shoes i would have done everything i could to make her change her mind.

  • @OblongTeaFilms

From experience making your views known only means they leave you in the dark about it. I didn't find out until my ex's bestfriend told me a while later, then she still wouldn't talk to me about it. You're better off just sticking close to her and lending your supportive shoulder. This kind of thing tears people apart.

  • @guitarandsinger It is selfish of women to believe that they have the only and final say in abortion. That child is another man's aswell. How would you like it if someone had the capacity to murder your child and not be punished for it. That there was absolutely nothing you could do to prevent your child from being killed and from you ever knowing them or caring for them. Have a heart for the men out there who have no power or say in a matter of life and death.

  • @guitarandsinger I fail to see your rationale. There are untold numbers of people desperate for a child, that would adopt, so how would bringing a child into the world be killing it? The argument of having no support is a fallacy. With the amount of government support around, anyone has the capacity to bring a child into the world. What is 9 months in the whole scheme of your life? Give this person a chance at life, and other people the opportunity to love and care for them.

  • @MissMayFleur i love you i make the exact same argument and everyone tells me im a jerk, and say retarded shit like "do you know how hard it is to give upa child for adoption?" like wtf!!??? this is the same child you would happily kill coz your a dumbass and didnt use protection...wtf!?

  • @ytrewqasfd "coz your a dumbass and didnt use protection" ...Excuse me? Can you imagine how much that could hurt to someone that had an abortion? o-O Consider this: It's the governments fault. If people, especially teenagers were actually TAUGHT about this stuff, it wouldn't happen as often.

  • @FifiRawr98 like im supposed to care about the feelings of the girl? she had her child slaughtered she shoudl feel fucking bad....and yeh governments fault? bullshit you would have to be pretty fucking stupid to not understand the most basic rammifications of sex, and not know about condoms, seriously, we dont need more sex ed, were surrounded it in everything, we watch the music we listen to, the billboards we drive past

  • @ytrewqasfd My aunt had her child aborted after her husband divorced her. Why did he marry her? To prove to himself he wasn't gay. And he was. She aborted her child and tried to fucking kill herself from the guilt. Would you dare tell her she was a dumbass to her face?

  • @FifiRawr98 you just proved my point... if she had the baby...she wouldnt of tried to kill herself from the guilt...and yeah i would tell it to her face

  • @ytrewqasfd You're just a fucking cunt, you know that? Can you honestly say you'd like to keep a child, when every time you looked at them, you were reminded of hate and lies? If it's anyone's fault, it's her "husband's".

And if you ever say that to anyone, I hope to fucking SHIT that they beat the crap out of you. You'd deserve it. Who are you to judge other people?

  • @FifiRawr98 here is the point im making, all pro abortionists seem to forget one thing a human life, is not a possession, its entirely its own entity whether its 30 seconds old or 30 years, an no one's emotions supercede someone elses right to exist, you cannot take the life of another person, simply to ease your own burden, i get that its hard, in Aus there is a 7 year waiting list for parents to adopt...and yeh im a cunt, at leats im not a murderer

  • @ytrewqasfd Actually. I'm not a pro abortion. I'm against it, but I don't go saying things like "OMG ALL PPL DAT HAV AN ABORTION ARE MURDERERS AND THEYRE STUPID BITCHESS111!!!!111" Because, for one, that's stupid. And two, I never know where they're coming from. Hell, it could have been to save their lives. And technically, you're still in possession of your children until they're of legal age.

  • @FifiRawr98 look i get it there are extenuating circumstances, rape victims etc, thats fine, im talking about senseless abortion like "yeh im 16 and fucked my boyfriend without a condom oh well just get an abortion" thats not on, your aunt, sorry but it wasnt the childs fault i know it must of been painful for her sure, but she cant take that out on an innocent, and no a child is not your possession, its your ward, you take care of it you don't own it

  • @ytrewqasfd She didn't take it out on the child. She aborted the child because she didn't want him/her to grow up without a father. I'd rather be dead than know that my father never really loved my mother, to be honest. And I hate my father.

  • @FifiRawr98 You cannot stop people having children and then abusing them. For some children there is literally little hope for them, especially some children of drug addicts. However, that is not to say they shouldn't have a chance at life. Who is damaged more in an abortion, the aborted individual or the parents?

  • Comment removed

  • @FifiRawr98 Yes I agree it's the parents cos they have to live with it and it will keep coming back to them even if they rationale it away, especially if they have children themselves. But not far behind is the aborted child. Would you like to have been aborted. I know I wouldn't and in fact I nearly was aborted for so called 'medical reasons'. As it happens there was no medical problem. I know it is a complex issue but where do you draw the line? At what age of a child?

  • @damage3002 I wish you were aborted so I wouldn't have to listen to you. ROFLCOPTER RAPE SESSION!

  • @porhmonkey thts how u were born right???? a rape session?

  • @damage3002 shut up nobody cares i almost wish there was a medical condition so ppl didnt have to listen to u talk about suff nobody cares about

  • @FifiRawr98 and seriously, just shut up :) No one came here to hear you shoving your opinions down peoples throats.

  • @porhmonkey

I'm not shoving my opinions down anyone's throat.

    I'm stating them.

Sorry, I never knew you weren't allowed to express opinions in your country - sorry for the offence.

And that was an old comment. I've dropped the subject now.

    See you later~

    And merry Christmas.

  • I had an abortion and it was the best thing I ever did. I was 16 and scared shitless... I was not (and I'm still not) ready to raise a child.

A lot of people make generalizations about what it's like, or how the person feels... But you cannot truly know until you've gone through it yourself. Nothing is black and white.

  • @ToadPurse having an abortion...was the best thing you ever did...wow you must be a useless person...seriously...like you cant even..read a book or like play an instrument or something...your claim to fame is you had an abortion...sort it out

  • beautiful

  • this song takes me back to when i was 7, its funny tho i hated it then lol but i love it now

  • They should also be informed of the physical and mental health implications of having an abortion.

  • Comment removed

  • I had a baby at 14 in 1998. It is so scary where things could have ended if I hadn't stood up for myself and the child I carried. He is now 12 and such a wise boy.

It is extremely selfish of women/ girls to consider that it is their decision. The life inside them is not theirs, and it was not only them who created it. Men should have the right to prevent their children being murdered. Women need to be informed of what they are actually doing. It's not a growth, it's a life. It's your CHILD.

  • @MissMayFleur are you fucking stupid how is it selfish its more selfish to raise a child in an enviroment if you don't have money or you have no support murdering your child is giving birth to it and killing it seriously think about what you just said im betting your a bible supporter too ??

  • I want to marry this man.

  • to any guys out there who have had to go through the heart ache of an abortion that they did not want to happen i feel for yas cause at the end of the day it is the womans decision that is final and there is nothing the man can do about it . whether abortion is deemed right or wrong doesnt help the heart ache and total devestation of us guys who wanted her to have the baby and pleeded to take care of the child once born . my hurt was emmence but hers was like water off a ducks back .........

  • @dilf72

i think the guy should be able to have a say in it, legally...

  • @dilf72 Unless she was the most cold, heartless bitch on the face of the planet... you're an idiot for believing it was water off a duck's back for her. Whether she conveyed it to you like that or not. >.< Of course the woman's decision is final - it makes or breaks HER life. She carries the child for 10 months, goes through the physical and emotional stresses. I'm sure it is heart breaking for the guy if he truly wants it. If that's so - find a woman who will have one with you and live happily.

  • @fatality88x

    10 months? really??

  • @exodian92 10 Lunar months, rather than calendar months. It's 40 weeks, which is 10 rotations of the lunar cycle, so just depends on which way you're looking at it

  • @fatality88x where i come from it takes 9 months, must be the weather

  • @dilf72 Man, a lady gotta bear it. A lot to ask. More to it than just the bairn.

But that she let it go easy, i feel that it cut ya, bruv'.

Ladies let go easier than guys, when they let go first. We seem to bond harder, when we do.

At least, a guy worth his salt.

    Best wishes, man.

  • My year 10 music class thought my teacher was joking when he told us what this song was actually about. Then we listened to the lyrics... wow

  • one of the best songs of all time, tyvm

  • I have a man-crush on Ben Folds.

  • @ffnarffnar It's a bromance ;D

  • @ffnarffnar AND THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT

  • @ffnarffnar It's a Bromance ;D

  • @ffnarffnar Me too, i dunno if i'd be up for his lovin', tho ;)

  • This song has nothing to do with religion, it's about Folds and his girlfriend getting her an abortion and it tearing them both apart from the loss.

  • 'cause i was tiiiirrrred. . . of lying

  • i didnt know the exact reason behind this song, so i looked it up. now it has more feeling than i thought it did <3

  • Are you sure its not about his pet Monkey Bubbles?

  • Ricordi di un secolo fa...

  • for some reason this song popped into my head today. What is that reason?

I miss the 90's... so much better then the crap that falls for music today.

  • fucking hell people religion is one of few things that help humans differ from other animals, it gives us morals alot of them are very good and beneficial to the human race

  • @angler1029 Religion neither good nor beneficial to humanity.

  • @attenta93 true that, true that

  • @attenta93 There is nothing inherently bad with most religions. Cults can be different, but generally speaking it's not religion that is bad, it's ignorant extremists.

  • funny no 1 ever said it was bout abortion anywhere did they???a rumour...mm

  • Is there a song where Ben Folds doesn't sound / look like a complete bitch

  • 為毛寂寞寂寞就好reminds me of Brick? 幫主明明就是圓臉﹐不是Brick啊 XD (可能是保齡球?) 但阿甄drown是肯定的了....T_T

  • all of you dumb fucks who hate abortion, get a fucking clue. it's the 21st century and not all of us praise Jesus. Do you want even more drug fucked morons raising babies who end up dead? I didn't think so. Morons.

  • @jezikaize not to mention that Jesus is the biggest cause of death worldwide and though out history! followed by the rest of religion... only the fucked up and insecure need religion to get them through theirstupid and pointless hollow lives.. get with the times people!!

  • @Benjamin5050 I don't understand how you could think that's appropriate. Whilst I'm agnostic, religion brings stability and promise to millions, a notion that's overlooked in these discussions. Religious wars today are often manipulated and exploited cults that simply look for reasons to justify their actions. I think however as far as hollow lives go, you take the prize for showing no acceptance or respect. Grow up.

  • @bassben04 Religion bring false promise, as stability only people with money look to be stable every one else fights constantly to stay afloat to pay their way, Religion is greed for power to herd and control others to only better ones position though belief in a falsity , to think it better than this is nieve. I do accept it, i understand peoples need to use for focus and to aid in things such as grief or mortality. but this does not hide the fact it kills more than anything else. kill = bad

  • @Benjamin5050 Maybe historically but in a modern context religion is just another excuse. The Taliban for example, yes arguably, are fueled by religion, but their version is so corrupted and power hungry that I think we'd see the same levels of terror regardless of religion. I accept that religion is responsible for some conflict, but to believe in it's promises isn't naive, there's a positive side to it that you're overlooking.

  • @bassben04 taliban.. look at America or the UK they are just as extreme, but because we perceive them as good we accept it, Look at the Catholic Church just sweeping all the child rape under the rug, abuse of power, i know it has some minor positive effect but it is minor and low key, its a localised positivity. how is believing in its promise anything but naive, when has at any point there been evidence of any promise being delivered? If someone actually says they spoke to god we lock `m up

  • @Benjamin5050 But the effects aren't minor to those who accept it. Again, there is much wrong with it, and from many angles the bad outweighs the good, but to dismiss the fact that it changes some lives for the better just isn't right. It provides hope and belonging for those who need it whether there is proof or not. There may not be hard evidence for it, but there's no hard evidence against it. Evolution, yes, but the origins of the universe? So much is still unexplained.

  • @bassben04 my my we are getting a bit deep on this.. your points are fair and i do just say it as i see..i strongly believe that if religion had never existed we may be in a better place,

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Steven Weinberg, quoted in The New York Times, April 20, 1999

  • @Benjamin5050 Yeah it's an interesting quote, I seem to remember Richard Dawkins quoting it, it does make a lot of sense. But it dismisses the lures of power and wealth and the other weaknesses that make up every human being regardless of religion.

But yeah, I guess this could go on for ages, it's not as if anything massive is going to change hah. Let's agree to disagree.

  • @bassben04 yer plus i read quite a bit of terry prattchet so thats always a religion killer!! I like the fact that you see the good it has over the bad.. but having seen alot of bad first hand i cant share your positive out look on it. Nice chattin!!

  • @Benjamin5050 Yeah man, well I share your problems with religion, I just think sometimes it is worth remembering it does help some people. Yeah, good chat.

  • "Now that I have found someone I'm feeling more alone Than I ever have before" He's found someone that he loves and will now have to live the rest of his life knowing that his child was aborted thus making him feel alone. I just wish some people would think about what they're getting themselves into and question whether they are really committed to what they're doing or at least think about what effects their actions will have
  • @MrHeadlessChook

and ask themselves if they are prepared to handle

what it may lead to so that things like what this song

is about people should never have to go through or live with.

    :)

  • Pro choice.

  • love this song

  • @ytrewqasfd That comments just wrong theres different circumstances for abortion people can get them for many different reasons such as girls with blood disorders have to get them if there pregnant as they l die and so will the baby

  • @BlackMyWrists ok yeh i should of specified, abortion is acceptable in certain circumstances, like what you said or rape victims things like that, but i dont think it's acceptable in the im 20 and don't want to have kid circumstance, then its your own fault and you have yo live with the consquences

  • @ytrewqasfd Even when the child might have a horrible life as a result? Why does a kid have to suffer because of a parents bad choice.

  • @lokie538 the child doesnt always suffer, its a minority, and there is such a thing as adoption, where they can be taken into by a family that is ready to support them, also i hate that the father has no say in abortion, im sorry doesnt it take two to create the baby?, and all im saying is everyone deserves a chance of life how would you feel if you parents had decided that you wern't worth it and aborted you?

  • @ytrewqasfd haha how would i feel if my parents decided i wasnt worth it and aborted me? I wouldnt feel anything idiot, as i wouldnt even exist.

  • @rockabillydeath thats so not the point of the argument...your happy to not exist because you wouldn't know? then why not kill yourself? oh probably because its better to be alive than not to be right

  • @ytrewqasfd of course the dad doesn't decide, its due to the fact that they can't give birth. you want to force women to have children? what planet are you living on. abortion HAS to be the mothers choice... there is no other option! what on earth...

  • @sometimesimakevideos it takes two to make a baby, and i understand what your saying but thn i could just turn aroudn and say fuck you im not paying any child support coz i didnt want the baby and you did, but men cant do that can they? so how come women can? its a tricky situation i know

  • @ytrewqasfd exactly, how can you expect the mother to have a child against her will just because the bloke who got her pregnant wants a kid? if you don't want kids don't have unprotected sex. you get a woman pregnant you have to pay child support. like you said, it takes two. abortions arent/should not be just "ah you know what... i cant be arsed having a kid actually". i'm not saying abortion is "right" or whatever just men can't give birth therefore it IS the womans decision it HAS to be.

  • @sometimesimakevideos yeh i get what your saying i retract my statement, honestly its too bad 90% of the population wern't aborted

  • @ytrewqasfd Why do people say things like that? What a horrible thing to say.

  • @THUPERMON ...hmmm well the world is completey fucked, beyond any kind of redemption and it's humanity's fault, because when it comes down to it 99% of the population are ignorant assholes, who only care about whats best for them and don't give a shit about anything other than themselves, but were so arrogant we believe that we are perfect and that we all have rights to everything, well we don't, seriously im sick of this bullshit society we live in

  • @ytrewqasfd there is this thing called adoption...in Australia (where im from) there is an 8 year waiting list for parents wanting to adopt but so many abortions every day (i can't remember the exact number sorry) and yes i know that sometimes the child will suffer, but that is usualyl a minority anyway, but even so is it better to have the child simply never exist? how would you fele if your parents had decided, that perhaps you wern't worht the hassle and aborted you?

  • shouldve worn a condom and taken the bc pill :P

  • This is the saddest song ever!!!!

  • Best thing about this band is that they don't use a guitar.

  • @wobbygongman I would say the best thing is their music, but hey, opinions should be different ;)

  • remind me of a time gone by

    forever

  • we evaluated it for english lit i love this song <3

  • This is a really good song

    but really sad!!

my class is doing free verse poetry and this is one of the songs we listened to and i was tearing up :(

  • This is the type of song you wouldn't want to download illegally.

  • @DazzaMeach fantastic quote.

  • @redcrayon89 Do you really need to be so forbassive?

  • @DazzaMeach too late.

  • @DazzaMeach well i did

  • @DazzaMeach but you did you scum

  • @DazzaMeach This is the type of song I wouldn't want to download at all.

  • She's a brick and I am drowning slowly.... a story of how a man has no choice sometimes on whether or not his Partner has a pregnancy terminated...

  • that was ariana richards BIG appearance you see

  • the cello makes this. but awesome.

  • @Stroudey1 I agree that this is a seriously awesome song, but it's not a cello... It's a double bass

    :D

  • You know what the real brick was? His conscience because he fucked before marriage. Think about it guys. He brought it upon himself.

  • @razzle364 You know not everything is about God, maybe he is just unlucky, and your almighty God did not smite down upon him!

Think about how many people are having sex before marriage now?

Are they all going to have to have abortions soon?

  • @razzle364 Or maybe the brick was your God's judgment, for creating a species that sexually matures well before they are mentally capable of raising the young their bodies relentlessly drive them to create.

  • This guy is the PianoChatImprov guy :o

  • @MickaelJulliard no its not ben did the chat roulette at a concert and pianochat improv guy made videos doing the same thing theres an interview with pianochatimprovguy where he says he got inspiration from ben

  • @opprules I relised that like.. 10 seconds after I typed that, I read Ben Folds' Wiki page, and it told me :P

    Sorry :D

  • @opprules It's the other way round, everyone kept saying that Pianochatimprov guy was Ben Folds, so Ben Folds did a few tries at some of his concerts.

  • haha i remember when i played this song for my english teacher

  • tear jerker :(

  • Comment removed

  • Its clearly stated in the other vid, Ben Folds ISNT Merton. The one where he plays infront of 2000 people is Ben folds.

i don't think it is but i have been wrong before i suppose either way i prefer him as folds

  • Hahahaha

  • GEEEEEEEEK ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOCK

  • Comment removed

  • I think the music video could have been better, i like the shot of them playing. And the water on the floor is very nice. But the rest I don't like.

  • Didn't realise Robert Sledge is the one playing the double bass, thought it might of been a session string player. Subtle controlled playing man, guy's a really talented musician

  • this is dood from improv?

  • no every1 keeps saying this it isnt

  • @DaMoleski yeh

  • @niels639 it's not him

  • @RangersLodgeAsh I could swear it is! They're so similar!

  • no this isnt merton. i know who merton is and it isnt ben folds.

  • Kathryn HI!! I love you x

  • See Kathryn!! Love you x

  • Yr 10, and I love these guys.

  • what a song. if you know what it's about or you don't, it is still a great song.

  • really sad song. beautiful. it speaks to anyone (male or female) who has lived through this.

  • Such a sad song, and now that I know the story behind he its even more sad :( but still a beautiful song
