@Tbanks796 you need to go to a technical shool, even if you learnt catia by tutorials or something like that, you are still no car designer. We (BMW/Mini) were running Catia on linux. Catia is for technical designing, for designing the strak there are other programs.

The vid looks neat, but some guys on here don't seem to understand that it is just a demonstration. There is a lot lot LOT more hard work going into designing a real rim for production.

I had some catia training years ago. The software is impressive and does pretty much anything as long as the 'right buttons' are clicked. I had a hard time getting used to it.

no it isn't. parametric and associativity is the fact which makes v5 interesting. for design without constraining there are much more efficient tools like autodesk autostudio are similar tools.

Yeh you can download the programme using torrents, but Catia V5 Release 16 will not work on Vista, n Release 17 will work but you have to install it in "Safemode"....for vista... n i fink they also relased Version 18...

Catia often needs to swap HUGE quantities of data to and from the disk, especially on the 32bit version. CATIA can gobble down the total 4gb memory space all by itself, afterall. :D

Best suggestion I have for you is to "Dont click anything, and wait"

I have a dual core Xeon, with an nVIDIA quadro as my workstation, and Catia takes it into a comatose state regularly. Patience is a virtue.

I used "Three Point Arc Starting With Limits".

It's a sub-feature of "Circle" in the sketcher... I also used auto constraint tangency to eliminate breaks.

How much is the basic version of CATIA and how much is the version with all the bell and whistles? Is the price per year?

Quelle tromperie, dans cette démo de Catia V5 plusieurs choses sont fausses. Dans les esquisses aucune cotation n'est mise. Aucune méthodologie de travail respectée pour une éventuelle modification du solide. Les étapes de l'esquisses pour la répétition circulaire n'est pas représentée etc... la preuve de se travail, les écrous sont dans le même corps de pièces sans parler de l'hexagone à l'intérieur (un Catproduct serait la meilleur solution) donc..

Chill dude! How is it a rip off (tromperie). When I made this video I was just learning my first skills with Catia and just for the fun of it I tried to find a way to visualize car wheels. Of course I didn't stick to the rules of professional CAD. And besides: this video is not a tutorial for Pro-Catia users, it is to show beginners how to have fun and design stuff with solely part-design. Hope that satisfies you.

CATIA is a monster, not to sound rude but this video doesn't do justice, CATIA practically sent us to space and across the sea, do not make car rims with it, just use SolidWorks

I leave almost everything on default:

15 frames per second

300 KB/s

...

However - with my graphics card - screen-cap videos become a lot better when I put the compression quality to 0. Hope that helps...

I simply edit my videos with Windows Moviemaker. Like in probably any other editing software you can import mp3 files and cut them in length...

I use a Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family (128 MB) on my notebook. So you should at least have 128 MB max. graphics memory... The RAM is almost more important I'd say: Catia works on 512 MB but it freezes quite often...

Well... I think Catia is the best all-round CAD software. But it's not exactly simple to handle.

AutoCAD is an alternative if you want to do some designs just for the fun of it.
