I'm always tempted to think Thom's vocal performances aren't as good live--then I realize it's actually spot on to translate the emotions of the song.
@jaymaru11 It's because on the album version Thom's vocals have tons of delay and reverb. It seems like they use a vocal modulator now though, so their recent performances are up to album par in the vocals department, for example when they played weird fishes arpeggi on jools holland.
I love this band, and usually I am blown away by them live, but I don't think they do the studio version of this song justice live. And if they don't itend too, then they should, its way better on the album.
Now THIS is what I call 'music'! Something true, innovative, artistically beautiful, rather than some money-making-tunes, that everyone seem to enjoy! Thumbs down mainstream! Long live Radiohead!
@Cuuka Just because something is mainstream doesn't mean it isnt great. Radiohead IS mainstream. They sell TENS of MILLIONS of albums, and almost everyone you know either loves them or at least knows of them.... they just do it better than anyone else haha
@Cuuka Amazingly, I just got done listening to the Tool song "The Patient" on YouTube. They say the same thing there; Radiohead explores the mind, Tool explores the soul.
The best part is when Colin kicks the bass line into overdrive around the "waterfall" section. I couldn't listen to the studio version for a while after listening to this for the first time... I need to hear those fat, Colin bass lines damnit!
A rather rare Fender Starcaster from the '70's lopsided semi-hollow. If you try to look the guitar up online you'll almost always end up lookng at fenders new series of super inexpensive guitars that carry the 'starcaster' name.
Lost touch after ok computer due to travelling the world. in the dark of night in the back seat of a car in the south of france this song confirmed Radiohead to be my fav band of all time. the way they have progressed still amazes me. Hail to the Thief! p.s I Might Be Wrong
dont agree, have never seen a live version better than the studio. the ambient effects of the album version is difficult to top imo, esp of the breakdown in the end.
most versions id agree with you. I think jonny shouldnt use that strange fender, he should use his tele. And i think they do it too fast. However, the one which i think beats the recorded version is part of their nov 9 webcast. its atually linked up on the right, by cuttooth93.
mojopins15; if "too much compression" meant "too much going on," then every song ever done by radiohead, would have "too much compression." these guys have so much shit going on in their songs... its amazing..
i love how thom has to conduct a stop in the song, ive noticed that these guys really get into this particular song when they perform it. i can barely listen to the studio version anymore after hearing it live so many times.
What makes Radiohead so loveable is the fact that you can tell they truly enjoy themselves on that stage. Just look at Jonny go!

thatafan 1 year ago
@thatafan I think Thom says "Now I think we should stop."
That's how the band knows when to stop playing I Might Be Wrong.
They could jam to this song for ever, until Thom says that sentence.

no compression, is lowered audio quality. In other words as much clarity or depth etc.
