As I said before, I've been giving some thought to what I would (and could) do if some sort of catastrophe temporarily or permanently disabled the technology that modern society relies on and have been taking some steps to prepare. I notice that I either already have or am already thinking of getting most of the items you've mentioned in this video...I came across a firestarter in the store today and decided it would be better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
I think it is a smart idea to have something like your possiblities pack just in case of emergencies. I also wanted to say that tampons are also good to help stop nose bleeds, and boy scouts used to use the feminine napkins for large bandaids in emergencies. No man should be ashamed of carrying such items, besides think how grateful a girlfriend/wife would be if an emergency occurred and she needed one! :-)
Great video, might I suggest a very small hand size bundle of greasewood wraped in a cotton cloth. and Iodine 2%. Ive been in situations where the wood and leaves were so moist not even my firesteel or lighter caught. So I had to manually dry out the wood and by then I was very dehydrated and cold "Even though I was next to a creek" so now I carry a bundle of greasewood, a bit of petrolium jelly and 2% Iodine just in case I cant get a fire going and I need water in my system right away.
Dude, where are you going? You need to watch the movie "Into the wild." My possibles pouch contains a Tv remote, a computer mouse and Ipod. lol But I gotta get me one of those fire starters in case I wanna make popcorn when I travel to the big wild sofa. Don't get me wrong I Luv the outdoors and it's great you know this stuff, but when you travel far enough to NEED it, it's time to turn around. Just saying. Awesome accent. :)
AMAMZINGGGG Mike where did you get the Lighter with the Torch??? very cool also that pouch is SWEEEEETTT what kind is it and where did you get it by chance???
I've found my girlfriends cotton eye-makeup pads work really well as tinder, especially if smeared with a little Vaseline. (Keep it away from the condom though, joke).
I understand the importance of fire, but rubber, bark and toilet paper, I think perhaps you could rationalise. I wonder whether chapstick works like vaseline??
one more thing, that small sharpening system you have, is it the fallkniven D3/D4 and if it is which one is it, the D3 or the D4. if not what is it and where do i get one :). Right now i carry a small ceramic rod which is nice but i would rather have a flat ceramic surface and a diamond hone on the other side. Thanks
hi I like your kit, I know you could warm water in this plastic bag but why don´t you ad a metal tin to this kit so you can use it liek a cooking pot? ;-)
no 550 cord no i used it all up. i might replace it. i tend not to use the 550 any more its getting expensive! the cheaper stuff is just as strong without the inners

hi nice vid, but..... what about a small compass? a kind like those you strap onto your watch?
bmbpdk 3 years ago
your right i do have one already on my watch strap but they are not that reliable and you need to learn other methods of finding direction
wall2rockclimber 3 years ago
true, they are only meant as an emergency compass, i have my suunto mc-2 on me at all time when im out (a good habit from my army time)
bmbpdk 3 years ago
thats the thing with living in england you only walk a few miles in any direction and you will come to a town or village
wall2rockclimber 3 years ago
the same thing in Denmark, the biggest area is Klosterheden, an area of approx. 25km x 10-12km, its only 10km from me :-)
