  • fantastic and powerful

  • Magnificent music for a magnificent performance by the king! I love the clothes that Lully is wearing, but we can't wear them anymore, right?

  • Can anyone tell me what the name of the king's dance? I want to watch the full dance choreography .

  • All i can say is VIVE LE ROI. "Give the best music of the world to God Jupiter, Master of the Universe!"

  • la seule et vrai Majesté de la France

  • If I were a multibillionaire, I'd exactly recreate this scene for my birthday party.

  • maravilhosa cena!

  • The movements of hands vaguely reminiscent spanishes dances like the flamenco of andaluzia.

Eighteenth-century Frenches are very Effeminate, even in the case of a song that expresses absolute power and male archetypical of Jupiter it's impossible not observe female characteristics of the show.

  • @Naterfosth89 LOL

  • j'aime ,j'aime encore et encore

  • Yes, this is more than only a normal dance. This is the pure demonstration of absolute power!

  • @DrHanLecter Louis definitely believes in his own absolute power (seemingly totally unaware of the fragility of any human body, royal or otherwise). This dance is perhaps an excellent pantomime expressing the maxim, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

  • Love it.

  • I have to watch it over and over again. So powerful.

  • 0.43 ---> best part

  • THIS IS THE POWER.

    Perfection. LEVEL=GALAXY CLASS.

  • Superbe! et tournè complètement a Versailles..ça fait revivre Lully e son Roi. Un veritable chef-d'ouvre.

  • magnifica musica

    precioso el periodo barroco

  • What movie is this from?

  • from "Le Roi danse" (The King is Dancing)

  • This film represents Louis XIV like my fingernail represents me. Louis XIV is a giant of a figure and it is impossible for a film or even a dozen to make sense of him.

  • @sgregg5257 the film is not supposed to represent louis xiv, but Lully. We only see the king when his actions or his presence matters to the main story, the story of Lully in his service.

  • @jubah I know the film is about Lully. But the representation of Louis XIV in this film is fairly flat. I love the film itself and am admirer of Lully's music.

  • @sgregg5257 I disagree, we see most of Lully's relationship with Louis XIV when he was still a teenager, he becomes more reserved through the years and speaks less, don't you think?

  • The real Louis XIV loved flowers and was intensely proud of his beautiful legs. He was also a powerful ruler and warmonger. This combination of facts causes some cognitive disorientation in modern people because of the habit of associating kingly power with rugged manliness. I find that this film is misrepresenting the whole Baroque aesthetic in its effort to "man up" Louis and downplay the aspects of the his personality which, to modern people, make him seem extravagantly effeminate.

  • Good comment (gentle baroque applause)!

  • Very thoughtful comment. Even though I admire the film (primarily and mostly owing to the beautiful music by Lulli, well performed by Musica Antiqua Koln), I could share your opinion about the lack of grace in portrayed Louis XIV (in general, and especially regarding his ballet choreography, pas by the king himself).

  • The dancing is strangely graceless. It must have been difficult for the makers of this film to imagine a graceful Louis XIV. It is generally difficult for people in our time to imagine that the powerful men of old were, on the one hand, endowed with all the "manly virtues" and, on the other hand, exhibited a passion for beauty and art.
