Hi, this is gonna sound stupid but I had my N1 for a year and was wondering whats the benefit of rooting? If you root, you dont get google updates anymore right or is it flashing another mod like cyanogen? Thanks.

@badsubby you still get the OTA updates (depending on your carrier). but if you update, you will lose root access. i would suggest flashing a custom rom, though, because roms like CyanogenMod will usually always get the updated OS before the carrier sends out the OTA. and custom roms generally tend to run better, too.
