May I respectfully ask what would convince this man to leave behind his one year old child (at the time) and wife to enroll in the army? Maybe I just don't understand the army culture, I don't mean to be offensive for those that may take this the wrong way. To me, the prospect of watching his child grow up trumps the need to enlist for active duty, as family means everything. I think it would be different if say he had been in the military previously and had to go back, but that is not the case.
