I was volunteering last summer with my little brother's Cub Scout pack, and I came prepared to be outside with elementary school boys--that is, comfort was the only priority. Another older sister made a rude remark, but one of the boys pulled me aside and said, "Don't be sad. We all love you because you're fun and sweet and smart and you care more about us than what people think. We all wish you were our sister and that's why you're so pretty." Every girl needs to hear that.
I love this video because it tells you that even if you're ugly or your fat it's who you are and if people are truly your friends then they shouldn't care about the way you look they will like you just the way you are because everyone is beautiful in their own way
Of course dove has making money as its first priority, its a BUSINESS, and yes their parent company also has axe and others that are less than encouraging to women but they sell what people buy. I for one am glad that they at least have the self-esteem fund, they don't have to. They could be like every other women's beauty brand and sell the same crap to make us look like an axe commercial girl. We'd still buy the product.
I totally agree the natural look is not encouraged in our society anymore, I think the message is positive, educational and moral, beauty comes from within.
Someone guy me beautiful today...and i never thought anyone thought of me like that and it really made me think if some random guy can come up to me and say your are so beautiful than..... maybe i just judge myself to much.
LAst week I was at band camp. It was 7 in the morning, my eyes were sagging cause of lack of sleep, my acne was crazy cause of the weird food they gave us, my hair was a mess, I had NO makeup on, I was sunburned and covered in three coats of sunscreen and sweat. A girl came right up behind me, pulled on my curls, then gave me a hug and said "You're so pretty!" If that's not proof that women are naturally beautiful, then all hope is lost!
@CripShat27 she's your friend dumass I see so many girls tell to their girl friends ''youre sooo beautiful'' ''wooow I like your hair'' and shit like this without meaning it.
i love how these ads aren't made to promote dove products by use of appearance and impulse, but a way that lets people who have flaws be perfect, without changing who they are. overall, the message that they're sending cannot be emphasized enough. and though it is an ad, the message remains clear and strong.
You people are all blind, "word so easy" i say there are women out there whom are gorgeous and others well....you know. Same as men here, we are all the same in the core! Do you really think these ads or our say will change anything? its human nature nothing changes.......And if we could ever change a thing why start with beauty problems? there starving children wars and criminals all out there! deal with that first not "Beauty", this is pointless.
@Sairium yeah you are right . there are many things in the world that are much worse problems in the world. But you can say this in every case. Like don´t be sad that your mother died, there are children in the world who dont even have a family . Just because there are other things in the world that are much worser ,that dont mean that you dont have to deal with "little problems" like this.
@Sairium Ánd i dont think that this is pointless in any case. I think you are a man ,and you dont even know how hard it can be for a young girl to stay strong in a world full of superficiality ,models and the pressure on you that you HAVE to be beautiful, and thin to be successful in your life. here is no way for a "ugly " girl, thats what you see every day. So i think its important to start solving this problem, thinking this is stupid is much more stupid.
@Saphira15 Well obviously they have a very low self esteem....We all know you don't have to be beautiful to be successful and/or handsome (Mens Case). Teach your daughters better. For one thing i'd rather spend my time looking into more important things such as diseases and what not. Beauty is just dumb. I know a few "Big" and or "ugly" girls and they're doing just fine, great lives, good friends. They're doing fine. Beauty is what "YOU women have made it. And its "Your" problem, get out of it.
@Sairium Beauty is not just defined by women, it's defined by a culture. Blame and the added emphasis of YOU is not helping. Rather than limit its definition and tell women they get the consolation prize "You're not beautiful, but you can still be fine", why not broaden the definition to incorporate the amazing traits and features that these women have? Give more visibility to women fitting the larger, new definition of beauty in leading roles and spots for movies and tv?
@cindelius Don't watch TV? The media of Modeling...truly has been created by women themselves.....some men. I don't walk around town expecting every woman to have they're hair done make up on and the latest of fashion trends....
Every part of this video saying that a girl hates her freckles,or thinks she's fat,and all that stuff broke my heart.
But,the "wishes she were blonde" part broke my heart the most.I remember wishing, and hoping for blonde hair as a little kid...but,whether you're brunette, blonde,or redheaded...or even bald,or whatever else you hair color is...
EVERYONE READ PLEASE: 'Dove' is owned by the company 'Unilever'. Unilever also owns the companies 'Axe', a company which I can say sorta degrades women, and 'Fair and Lovely', a company which markets mainly in Asia, which sells 'skin whitening' creams. The Fair and Lovely commercials give the complete idea that no woman can be successful or beautiful without being pale.
They don't care about whether women feel good about themselves. They care about making money.
@milkyway531 This air time is going to be taken up by some monger hoping to make another billion dollars, at least they can have some residual possibility while they are at it. Yeah, they only care about money, show me a company that is any different. Despite any lack of sincerity, I would be happy to see more companies do this. Maybe if campaigns like this are successful, more companies will decide that they don't need to make girls feel terrible to raise their bottom line.
But think about that: the message is the important, not the Dove products.
I never buy anything from them, they do not have any bio products..., but I did watch these commercials, and I would reccomend to watch them to any women, who has self confident issues.
@milkyway531 Does it matter if they're hypocrites when the truth is that someone does need to fix the way women (and men for the matter) generally feel and think about themselves? I don't have any yet, but when I do have a daughter, I'd much rather have commercials telling them that they're beautiful then that they have to meet an impossible ideal.
yeah, the parent company owns companies with negative marketing campaigns. and yeah, dove's campaign for real beauty is a marketing campaign. they are a for-profit company... they obviously try to make money. good for dove if a positive message gets sales results!
there may be problems with dove's campaign, but i think it's great to see a movement that tries to counterbalance the media's definition of beauty. i especially like their "evolution of a supermodel" video. check it out.
yes thats the problem with the industrialised beauty.
in usa for example is well promoted to have curly and black hair.
in europe it sells more if you are adapted to the american standards. girls dye their hair blonde, they want to have fair skin colour.
this is how we are made people. we are craving for everything we dont have and believe that it is ideal to have some feautures that boys are wishing to have.
Do you think they had to carefully select girls who weren't too pretty or at least even out the amount of "pretty" and "ugly" girls, so they wouldn't get criticized? :/ Like what if all the girls who applied were industry-pretty. They couldn't do that. Does that make sense?
@starszen I was wondering something similar, like whether they intentionally rejected girls who were too extreme in either direction. I didn't see any obese girls in the advertisement, including the girl who is supposedly afraid she is fat. I think they probably rejected anyone who deviated too far from their idea of average.
The real issue that Dove doesn't bring up: why is the most important thing about a girl the way she looks? Society tells girls to build their whole lives around something as fleeting as a pretty appearance!! I wish people could learn to value girls for their intellect and skill (as well as beauty).
What's funny about this is that you don't need money to give a girl confidence. We're pretty much supporting a fund to make more commercials like this to support a fund to make commercials like this... etc. so they can make money. Very sneaky Dove.
it's a great message that they put forward...but I don't get how Dove promotes it when they sell products which suggest you need to make your skin look better, younger, fuller....makes no sense to me
This campaign is so different because its a feel good advert, unlike other advertisments which reminds women of all the things they hate about themselves e.g. fat, ugly, old etc by showing a fake model prancing about.
i love the message, but this vid was cheesy..seen it way too many times the words next to the person, the sad faces, the happy faces.People don't get creative anymore.
its true every little girl hates at least one thing about herself, when i was a little girl i hated my long curly hair and prayed every night so it would be straight like everyone elses was
i remember watching this commercial when i was about 6 (something like that!) and never really get it... now that i'm older, i do now... and it's one of the best commercials ever! :)
@ChelmRo You know that the people who made this don't all actually care how we see ourselves, right? If the campaign didn't bring in the money they would just drop it faster than a ton of brick to use something that did work.
Yeah.. I've learned a lot about these compaines recently. The ones who are all about being beautiful and confident as yourself and not needing to change, campaings and commercials alike.. Are the same companies (aka Lynx etc) that call older women hideous abominations in games online.
Way to send a mixed message, eh? Unfortunatly, they just want the money and are willing to play us in anyway they can.
So what if girls go out and purchase doves soap by watching videos in regards to campaign for "real" beauty? The videos and the products undoubtedly creates warm, invigorating...gentle touches to the heart, mind, body and soul. Do you have a problem with that? Millions of shoppers don't..our money is well spent and we get more than we bargained for..now that's a real deal in today's society..children stay in school!
Show me a smile then, Don't be unhappy, can't remember When I last saw you laughing If this world makes you crazy And you've taken all you can bear You call me up Because you know I'll be there And I see your true colors Shining through I see your true colors And thats why I love you So don't be afraid to let them show Your true colors True colors are beautiful, Like a Rainbow
If you have a story of a young girl you know who's self-confidence has been corrupted by the media, please send them to kayacheyannephotography@hotmail.co.uk. I am running a channel 4 battlefront campaign to help women and girls feel better in there own skin && to build girls' self-confidence. If you have any stories, please email them to me to be added to the site! Also go onto my youtube main page or the battlefront website and check out our facebook too! I need you girls! xx
In my opinion people dont naturally think they're ugly. Its normally because someone has said something, bullying or the impact of the media. People hate their hair colour, race, etc as people think there is only one way to be beautiful.
I went to an all girls school and let me tell you girls are bitches.
One thing you will learn as you go older, people say shit because they are insecure themselves. The uglyest ones are the ones with tonnes of makeup bitching about other girls.
"I went to an all girls school and let me tell you girls are bitches"
i could never go to an all girls school. all the girls like to do at my school is start drama .so i can imagine it is way worse at an all girls one.
"people dont naturally think they're ugly. Its normally because someone has said something, "
i agree with that statement. when i was younger people use to make fun of the fact that i have a big forehead. one kid said "dang.look at her forehead.
ALADDIN GEE--You know what i think about this video it's a boom shell Tight work you going place to the top and i sub so please sub back you can leave a comment too if you want but i really love this video thums up i rate it
There WAS a black girl at the end. There was some woman on here complaining because the model Dove used as what black people call "good hair"....what the hell?Do you people EVER stop fussing?
Dove is probably one of the first brand, to actually work on developing an individual's attitude, than like many others who are more into showing of the outer beauty than the inner. Hats off to the brand management team.
Thanks to the UNILIVER company, most of the the forest of Borneo, Sumatra and Indonesia are being deforested to produce palm oil and sell it to other companies such as DOVE, so they can produce soap, shampoo, and a lot of other stuff than can be created without the use of palm oil. We are loosing innocent organisms(100s of years trees, endangered species and indian populations that have never been in contact with other humans) This commercial is another way of the government to manipulate us ;)
@mel0engels Except my next door neighbor... And before you thumbs down this video I think you should now she was arrested for murder a few days ago. She is not so beautiful.
I am naturally blonde. All these girls go, and dye their hair. But the outcome is not....BLONDE. It is some bleach colored, barbie wig! Be yourself girls! Stay natural. There is only ONE you in the world. So embrace it. ;)
One thing to remember - if the Campaign For Real Beauty is something that Dove's current ad agency dreamed up years ago, one must wonder if the Real Beauty campaign will die once Dove and the agency part company in the future. Let us hope that if this happens, the new agency does not go back to the old style of using only attractive models to appear in Dove ads.
Dove is hypocritical in this campaign. They're lecturing on self-esteem, yet they're selling skin-lightening creams in India, North Africa, and the Middle East, saying that you won't get dates or good jobs if your skin is too dark.
@Socklessuser don't try and dye your hair bond because then you will have to bleach your whole head and its not healthy ! and im pretty sure you look gorgeous just as you are :)
@bridgett167 Haha yes I am. But unlike you, I can't dye my hair at all without making it look terrible. I only fit with black haircolour. You can dye it in many colours, black, brown, red etc ^^ You have loads of colours to choose between! ;D
i think it's ironic that this has an asian girl with chinky eyes and in the tv show glee, the character tina is asian and has chinky eyes too! and thats not an insult cuz i'm asian too and i think they're cute :)
I was volunteering last summer with my little brother's Cub Scout pack, and I came prepared to be outside with elementary school boys--that is, comfort was the only priority. Another older sister made a rude remark, but one of the boys pulled me aside and said, "Don't be sad. Even if it is just a way to make money, I like their way of doing it better than most other tv ads...

@ChelmRo I agree with you
patricklance96 1 year ago
@ChelmRo You know that the people who made this don't all actually care how we see ourselves, right? If the campaign didn't bring in the money they would just drop it faster than a ton of brick to use something that did work.
alanaisaac5 9 months ago
@alanaisaac5
ChelmRo 9 months ago
So, what Doves are sayingis that all girls shoul cares with the appearence. Sad anyway. And kill little puppies to make this products.
LaraKid 1 year ago
So what if girls go out and purchase doves soap by watching videos in regards to campaign for "real" beauty? The videos and the products undoubtedly creates warm, invigorating...gentle touches to the heart, mind, body and soul. Do you have a problem with that? Millions of shoppers don't..our money is well spent and we get more than we bargained for..now that's a real deal in today's society..children stay in school!

People who use Dove products will never be truly 'beautiful' until Dove goes cruelty free.
I will never purchase Dove products until they stop using animal parts in their products and testing their products on innocent animals.

I need you girls! xx

The media influences so much on what is considered beauty, pretty or even ugly. Glad this commercial shows beauty within the soul, not the skin.
Chuckalakala 1 year ago

One thing to remember - if the Campaign For Real Beauty is something that Dove's current ad agency dreamed up years ago, one must wonder if the Real Beauty campaign will die once Dove and the agency part company in the future. Let us hope that if this happens, the new agency does not go back to the old style of using only attractive models to appear in Dove ads.
jwas65 1 year ago
I think that what Dove is doing is awesome.
the end.
HappierThanEver07 1 year ago 3
Dove is hypocritical in this campaign. They're lecturing on self-esteem, yet they're selling skin-lightening creams in India, North Africa, and the Middle East, saying that you won't get dates or good jobs if your skin is too dark.
StoogeWatcher 1 year ago
Sometimes I wish I was blonde. It's boring with black hair. I can't even dye it in another colour without making it look stupid. -.-
