  • His voice had an instand impact on me.

His message opened up my way of looking to the world.

His music lives on and I hope it will change a lot of people's thinking .

  • How can someone you don`t know have such a profound affect on your life? This is the question i ask myself after reading of Gil´s Passing.

The last track of the album spirits shoudl be an anthem for all of us who`ve struggled . "don`t give up, its time to stop your falling , you`ve been down long enough , can`t you hear the spirits calling" I will miss the man and the chances to see him play live , but i will always treasure the music R.I.P Gil

  • sad sad sad to see such a giant reduced like this GSH was so brilliant back in the day. The drugs wrecked one of the greatest talents of his generation

  • @elps84 Your ma is melted. Ya bas.

  • @ICEBOXX 4real? I meanU could def be seein sumthin i don't, but I was thinkin almost the opposite as that. lol thats.just how they would want it 4sure, but this dude speaks, and I hear truth..truth n wisdom. And yo, I'm white and what he says JUST MAKES SENSE..at least from a poets point of view; lyrically. "Message to the Messenger" touched on topics and made points that are mad deep, mad true, and mad intelligent, especially in it's delivery. lol That mos def comment sounds MK all the way tho.1

  • Mos Def has always been one of my favorite artists.

That to see a legend like Gil Scott-Heron recognizes him too.

  • mkultra i can see it

  • @ICEBOXX760 Interesting comment.......why did you say that?

  • @telemanque first this man was one of my heros but you have to look closely i would never disrespect by judging but i do examine and also you be the one to examine behavior that all im saying

  • Haha, thanks man! You're one smart dude. I love being captivated and drawn-in by what someone has to say, being afraid to blink in case I miss something important, and especially what that someone represents real black people, not "African American" people or some other stupid shitty pseudo-degenerative label, with all it's hidden connotations.

  • Peace be unto Gil-Scott Heron.....His thoughts and Ideas still have reasonance in communitities around the country, and that's dope.....Definitely an exemplar in my life....Hope to see him in Chi-town soon.

  • I LOVE this guy. I just did my term paper on him. He is amazing!

    --a muthafucking white chick

  • @timnlara1 yes hes definitely got something to say but,do people listen.

  • SEXY MAN GiL-SCOTT....LEMME STOP CUZ HE iZ AN ELDER 2 ME...THANKS FOR BEiNG A POSiTiVE EXAMPLE FOR THE BLACKMAN FOR US SiSTAZ

  • in a white controlled society, how would you avoid working with or for whites? not all whites are racists, but to ignore racism is as ignorant as being a racist, white racists or black racists.

  • @2020Babyboi .. Yeh .. but the muthafucking controlling whites control our white asses too brother .. Respect ..

  • @miragin7 I can understand that totally. Don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying the establishment is necessarly a bad thing. It's a stepping stone, or what you make of it. Everyone has to answer to someone, black, white, purple doesn't matter.

  • i love how everyone wants to claim racism, but everyone working for gil is white.

  • Since 1970 I have followed Gil, his career, his music, his spoken words and his mind. Given his use of life & it's rewards, whether positive or negative, what Gil has always done is be honest. Honest with us. Honest with politics. Honest with substance abuse, his or others. More importantly, Gil had learned to be honest with himself. Something most of us will never learn. Knowing Gil, reading & writing poetry as we did in a hotel room, he is & always will be my inspiration. Bless you & Thank U.

  • Cultural and Emotional, well said. "Different circumstances. But it's still people."

  • Wonderful to listen to. Great guy..

  • certain people can talk and you never want them to end

  • I'm going to see him at BB King next Thursday, October 7 in NYC...I cannot wait. its going to be the best thing ever i wouldnt miss it for the world

  • whoa i've found who was lookin 4 in gsh no homo... peace & love 2 u & yours

  • When checking into a hotel on a bender he used the alias, Ben Safir, as in been safer...

  • "Reading the yellowpages backwards..." ha ha ha.

  • I agree so much with his artist choices

  • chi può tradurre il suo discorso in italiano!!??

  • Just saw Gil in Dublin last night and he was awesome! Really got the crowd going...and laughing too! One of the best.

  • Eeeep tots de cap a Barcelona pel 4!!!

  • WOW he gave MOS DEF THE CROWN right there he passed the baton to MOS DEF who is the BEST!!

  • @supermike2164 Mos Def is quite nice, yeah!

  • method man is gonna look like this man one day

  • legend

  • Gil is awesome!

  • Co'mon Gil come to England! i've waited 20 years to see you live here in Newcastle upon Tyne.

    Hope you make it soon!

  • Excellent! He has to come to Atlanta!

  • Saw him last night in LA...the man sounds GOOD!!! Wonderful show!!! I've seen him perform MANY times over a 25 year period and he sounds as GOOD or BETTER than ever...

  • @tellyoutomorrow tot agreeed... i had never seen him til last dec. in NY and I was overwhelmed by his show and I think the voice on the nu LP sounds a lot more grainy than what I heard.. i am sure that's what they wanted, which i can c y .

  • @teoruz His voice has changed. GSH is HIV positive and I have questioned if this has had an impact on his vocal range.

  • @novembertalespinner His health status is HIS STORY. It is not for us to share. What he IS sharing is a powerful message through his art form. He is a gutsy legend who has the heart of a champion.

  • The best funk in the finals of The 70´s...

Una encaixada perica des de Barcelona!!!

  • inspirational

  • fucking legend

  • Through it all, his beautiful pineal gland is still functioning just fine...GSH forever!

  • Absolutely brilliant. Much Praise to Gil Scott Heron a true Poetic Pioneer. It is a true blessing to see him in good health. His comments regarding Mos Def are as precise and on point of a statement in relation to him being the most important artist since Tupac. His words should be duly noted as he is a man of much experience and wisdom.

  • He's not exactly in good health, he's HIV positive, but he seems to be doing fine so far. I wish him well in his come back. I was blessed to see him perform live once in Tallahassee, FL. He's a true poet in every sense of the word.

  • How old is he now??

  • He's 60, born April 1, 1959. He kicked a cocain habit he had for about 15 years. He's also HIV positive. Drugs and alcohol can age you quick. Mos Def is helping him on a comeback for his next album after 14 years. I think the lesson here is for us to be prudent in our lifestyles and make sound health decisions; but

"Father Time" will soon catch us all if we don't die young. Keep doing your thing Gil you are a great poet, one of the best in our time.

  • Baby...You gotta mean 1949 right? and wow....didnt know he was HIV=P.

Yeah .............We all need to take better care of ourselves.......Thanks for the info.

  • Yes I meant 1949 sorry!

  • I'm sorry MsMelzy I meant to say 1949. But yes he looks 80 easy. I really hope he lives his final years sober. He's truly a great arist.

  • Glad to see he's still holding on.

  • Yea he's been around a looooong time, my dad used to have his albums and Im 41...i remember that song Angel dust

  • LOL 'mI not even sure why... But your comment is funny to me. I can her my father ask me right now "Hey Boy, Hey BOy you Remember that Gill Scott record angel dust?" ME: "Angel WHAT?" "what you say Daddy? Daddy? over here look" My father: " I said Aaaaangel Dust fool, you, YOU, You know what I says BOY!"

  • I was lucky enough to have seen him at a local concert several years ago. It was an excellent experience! Hopefully, I'll get a chance to see him in his element again!

  • Keep them coming Mike! Interviews like this is... Food for our Soul...! God Bless ya'!

  • Old age is kicking his ASS!

But im glad you brought this to everyone very smart and helpful info.

  • I am in total agreement. He's always been great but Mr Time is not a nice man.

He spoke about Tupac in the present tense, Lord let somebody update him on that one.

Still, he's as brilliant as ever.

I might have to pull out one of my Gil Scott-Heron LPs. If they've survived! :-)

  • No he didn't speak of Tupac in the present tense he said: "I think Mos Def is the most important artist since Tupac." He might be old but the man still plays to audiences and still has some good since.

  • I listen to GSH EVERY DAY.
