I drive 2500 miles a month for work and get reimbursed for mileage. South Florida is flat as a pancake. I average 72MPG in my '00 5MT down here. If I were to drive my M3 convertible for work as opposed to my Insight for work, I'd be throwing $5,000 extra a year in mileage reimbursement down the toilet.. plus I'd be racking up 30k a year on my BMW.. :( I love my insight! Does exactly what it is supposed to every time!
these would make an excellent electric conversion car once electric conversions with li-ion become affordable. curb weight under 2000 lb, aerodynamic shape, practicality. but thats only if 70 mpg is too expensive to afford. for you.
Two years ago I had a chance to buy a 2001 Insight and everyone I showed it too said it was ugly and I ended up buying a Chevrolet Tracker and I have hated myself for that for two years!!
I have two '00 Insights (His & Hers) and I love mine too. No problems ever. Who cares about looks when you get 70+MPG. Honda stopped making them 'cause they actually cost Honda 40K to make and they sold them at 20K. They were the 1st hybrid in the US and they were doing market research. Cheaper to drive 2Insights than 1 Explorer. 98% of the time I'm alone in the car anyway, as are most drivers. 10gals=700+miles! I live in Michigan and it drives fine in the snow, like any other small car.
I have an '06 Insight and I LOVE it. What this car does... it does very well. Mine has MIMA (thank you Mike Dabrowski) and I have a lifetime avg of 78MPG.
Yeah, I originally posted this to sell on craigslist, sold it for $3400. I had a rebuilt salvage title, cuz the front bumper was hit, nothing major. 120K miles. It ran great, pretty powerful at lower speeds, very hard to go from 65 to any higher, unless of course you have the wind and hills in your favor, lol.
Honestly, the car is too small, only 2 seats, you are dead if you get hit, all aluminum and plastic. I would suggest a hybrid civic that gets 45mpg anyday. this car wont get 68mpg like they day. you have to acel very slowly, follow semis, and all that to maybe get 60mpg. I averaged 47-52, and It was well maintained, and batteries were replaced! and seriously, If you are going uphill, you can floor it, wasted all the battery, and still not get past 55 on a hill, or windy day!
Would you like to sell? These are sooo hard to find. I had a a 2000 back when they first came out and regret daily that I traded it for a larger vehicle.
they arnt a waste of metal. they are a very nice little car that gets great gas mileage. i wish i had one today especially with gas prices hitting 4 bucks this spring.
actually, the entire body and panels are all plastic! And there are way uglier cars out there. I would say semis are ugly, and box trucks, but they serve a purpose, so does this

@superseller256 Actually, Aluminium is one of the strongest metals out, that's why they make aeroplanes out of it...

just under 12 dollers a gallon in uk
Fuel in uk is taxed to as much as they can
They also hold there value well and cheap road tax
Do they have road tax in usa ?
SSNAZIiMAN 3 years ago
SSNAZliMAN: We have a fuel tax (18.4 federal plus a state average of 28.6 per gallon)
magyarR34: I hope your spending an Arm and a Leg to fill up your Castle on wheels, while we "smart people" are trying to make a difference
