Plus, he had already solved the first two layers once the video had started as well as part of the beginning of the top face. He didn't solve it in under a minute, maybe more like 3-4 minutes.

@gassmann123 The only reason you're saying that is Will Smith's a cool guy. At the beginning of the video you can hear the lady say "2 Minutes" and the the clock started. So he solved it in about 3 minutes. Plus, he was already on the last layer when the video started. I can solve it in 1:30 and move the pieces MUCH faster than he did. My friends can solve it in under a minute and they move the pieces really, really fast.

Also, you don't have to be smart to solve the cube.

I've seen the full interview and they cut the first half of him solving it in this video. That's why it looks like it's half solved when the video starts. And secondly he really can solve a cube, he learned the Tyson Mao method, it's pretty much the most basic and easiest to learn beginners method out there. If you want to learn it, rubiks.com has it on the web page for free with Tyson Mao showing how to do it. It's 8 steps and you only have to remember like 4 algorithms. It's really simple

Looks like it's edited, in magical TV world there is such a thing. The Countdown's for the last minute maybe because they say, 'two minutes' at the beginning and the first two layers are quite clearly solved by the time the video starts. Using the method he's using and how slow he is I'd say that's about right.

Also she says, 'almost almost' at about 12 seconds in when she's just said two minutes, seems that the video starts within the countdown for the last minute of the solve.

@bex271 Rubix cube is entirely algorithms. There are only 5 algorithms, and as such, you can pretty much do the cube off memory. No genius required, just practice.

The method I use only utilizes 4 main algorithms, one for the first layer, one for the second (can be mirrored), one for solving the (bottom) face, and than one last one to solve the cube with two extra move sets when you have to invert and resolve the middle...

IDK what you are talking about, it is totally doable with only 4

@oldspice2625 I'm not saying that CFOP (friedrich) is the best method, but it's certainly better (as in 'faster') then your method. It requirers only 55 moves if perfected opposed to 150+ for your method. There are methods that can be done fast and require less moves (with roux it only takes 40 if perfected) but most speedsolvers uses friedrich.

@oldspice2625 As for your remark about science: If you want to calculate a determinant of a matrix, doing it by cofactor is the simplest way but it would take a computer years to do it for just a 20 by 20 matrix. You need a more complicated method to do it efficiently

I'm an amateur cube solver and I can tell you that he had the FIRST TWO LAYERS (F2L) already done when he just started solving that cube (and that's the longest part). Only the people (will smith fans) who know NOTHING about solving the Rubik's cube buy it
