@detroit110 No, 1080i is 1920×1080 pixels, while 720p is 1280×720 pixels. The difference is how they display the picture. Progressive does all rows at the same time while interlaced alternates between rows.
As you said the iPhone scales down the 1080p content so maybe that is the reason but I think the main issue might be internet connections. Not very many people have a fast enough connection to stream 1080p and Apple have always made a point of instant playback.
@Danimop thats what I though, it will have to be renamed as I think ITV own that as a trademark... so, different names for different regions possibly.
I just read this on macrumors too, I think after so many years of the old AppleTV doing 720p, this was the moment for Apple to get 1080p out of it. I had a 160GB Apple TV but I was just so tired of it. So little use for it. Even tried boxee & etc and it just wasn't up to par. Sold it and got the latest Mini
I've been using MacDailyNews but they're always lagging . Guess I'll download this app now in case it ever gets brought down, thanks.
1080p and 1080i are kinda the same, only picture display is different, not the resolution

Um, I hate to say it, but "Dismiss" only has three "S"s. I mean, you may have fixed it since; but if you haven't, I thought you ought to know.
Sorry. ;)

@drummerkid1993 I think you are probably right, although I have streamed 1080p before on my desktop.

They can't call it iTV there is a major TV channel in the UK called ITV.

In the UK we already have ITV. I watch Emmerdale on it. It's rubbish.
