  • If Chopin sounds like free form jazz, you're doing it wrong.

  • Ohhh, THIS is the song that's always playing in serial killers' heads.

  • I luuv Tsopeen, hic.

  • Shame shame SHAME on the teacher who allowed her to perform this! She could not have been completely without talent to have this much technique.

  • This performance adds further weight to the argument that Chopin is the father of modern harmony.

  • oh my fucking god, this is by far the best piano playing with boxing gloves I have ever heard in my life :P well... maybe second best.. there was that one time that I saw a gorilla put on some boxing gloves and attempt this piece and boy, was he talented, still kudos for... uhmm.. yea... nevermind. *smile :)

  • I think you people making fun of this should be ashamed. First, consider that she must've been very nervous playing the piece for the first time. Second, she was obviously wearing boxing gloves while playing, and that didn't improve her technique.

She actually makes the piece sound very modern, like Cecil Taylor or an experimental piece with a distressed opossum running across the keys.

  • @ybravura Oh God... Bait and switch, perfect execution. I was drinking tea when I started reading your comment, but now I'm wiping it off my desk.

  • hahaha... way to ruin a wonderful piece by sucking hardcore at the piano. how'd she even get 4th runner up?

  • I'm pretty sure the announcer had the wrong cue card. This is a Thelonious Monk solo....

  • FAST, she is having convulsions!!! someone call a doctor!!!!!!

  • @serginietor : I completely agree!

  • This is the true Hammerklavier Sonata, in that it is being played with a hammer.

  • Another great interpretation of Chopan's music is Ron Jeremy. You should hear his Polonaise. It's fantastic.

  • bullshit

  • this has to be a joke. i've never heard anything so bad and so good at the same time. it's so contemptuous it's almost brilliant. of course even bad chopin is still interesting. i've purposely played religious songs like this, only to aggravate, in dissonant scales and odd signatures. you can't do this without contempt for the music or composer. no way this is an honest attempt.

  • Chopin the greatest composer my ass!

  • Sorry, just had to comment again.it's so funny.I agree with new rachmoninof she did have a lol hope I never end up the bad when I get older

  • Miss Texas had a heart attack on scene.

  • This recording is by far the funniest video ever! I am a really young pianist and even I think this is really funny lol. I was recently in Minnesota for a music festival and my friend showed me this and I showed my piano teacher and I never seen him laugh so hard in my life. I was laughing so hard that I almost flagged as in innapropiate cuz this was so bad!!!! Hahahahahahaha.

  • I WANT TO KILL MYSELF.

  • scherzo - joke in italian

she seems to have misinterpreted the title

  • I am 54 years old. I have never in my entire life laughed so hard.

  • Obviously either the piano is missing the pedal or Miss Gulf Coast is missing a foot ( in addition to her ears and apparently one side of her brain) AND Still the crowd roars.....

  • It's not quite what's on the page....

  • Fucking amazingly bad.

  • The scary thing is that the people who cheered - obviously knowing nothing about classical music, or just enjoying the trainwreck - went away thinking Chopin is a serialist composer. That's gonna sting em next time he comes up in a conversation and they are wanting to look smart.

  • @RH98 I'm literally laughing my butt off! Nice comment. But it is the truth probably.

  • Hang on I think I get it now. She didn't have enough time to perform the whole piece so her teacher tells her to take a beat out of the end of every bar and play the remaining notes twice as fast. To make up for the missing notes she played it with extra feeling (read: volume)

  • What the hell is happening here? This is like free jazz played by monkeys in a tumble dryer...there is a total dichotomy between the amount of skill required to play what I'm hearing here and the total lack of musical feeling required to butcher an interpretation this badly. Nothing about this any makes sense.

  • "Showpan's Sharezo"? I've never heard of that composer or that type of piece before...

  • Comment removed

  • It sounds like someone falling in the stairs !

  • Chopin has turned over in his grave, and DIED again! AWFUL!!!!

  • Chopin Scare-zo…

  • I also really like the faint, enthusiastic "yeah!" at the release of the final chord.

  • One time in orchestra the flute player was asked to play a run and was just horribly messing it up, so the director looked at her, paused for a second and said "You have a very pretty face."

  • Man, I think I have listened to the whole thing before... but As I am turning it off :58 seconds in I cannot be sure.

Poor girl, poor piano, poor crowd, poor Chopin.

What do you think the expressions of the crowd look look like? Serious question.

  • Woo-hoo-hoo-hahahahaha. To laugh or cry, that is the question. Her "performance" sandwiched by the announcer and the audience cheering is just beyond belief. But, it inspired soooo many really funny comments. Thanks all!

  • An enormous amount of thought has gone into the ornamentation of this Chopin sharezo. I don't know any living pianist who can match this unique combination of Chopin, Scott Joplin and John Cage

  • WOW! It's like a be-bop broken piano roll! Fascinating!!!!

  • The best of THE WORST performance of Chopin's music!

  • OMG ~! buyahahaha ;P

  • THIS IS THE MOST FUCKING BULLSHIT PLAYING OF CHOPIN OP.20 THAT I EVER HEARD IS THIS UNIVERSE!!!

  • click Yundi Li >>> that's how it's SUPPOSED to sound like .. Just cause people think someone is pretty does not let them get a free ticket to sound like shit or act like shit ... someone should have stopped her

  • Whoever taught her to play Chopin should have their wrists cut off for letting her play! Is this for real? I bet Chopin did a 360 Exorcist style in his grave!

  • Is this fucking for real?

  • Oh my Christ that's dreadful. It sounds like a blue whale's death rattle.

  • wow. this has to be among the worst performances i've ever heard. stick to pageants. please don't come back to piano.

  • wow this sounds almost like Cecil Taylor..... drunk

  • Umm...I think it goes like this:

    7GKQztuU3LI

    I also like share-zo's.

  • And so began WW3

  • Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Sounds like the voice of an angel. The Angel of Death, that is . . .

  • Sounds like Monk would if he were still around! Love it! ;-)

  • this is so terrible i want to cry

  • I've been practising my butt off for over 15 years and I'm not even close to being as famous as this airhead. Unfair.

But I suppose it is a special talent to be able to play "Shopan's Sherzo" with a sledge hammer.

  • HHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

  • SHERZOOOOO - hahahaha and of course her playing - you are right about FFJ!!!

  • This is the best free jazz experiment I have ever heard

  • her approach is like chopping wood

  • this is the worst version i've ever heard in my life.. maybe its cuz its a keyboard.

  • Wow, she's really good at playing badly! Good technique!

  • She could of done Rap. She still provides entertainment, just not in the way she intended.

  • Share-zo.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! i can play better with my feets!!

  • your dumb. feets? its feet 1st off. 2nd, your an idiot! thats my cousin, and this was a longgggg time ago

  • @lala2021199 1st i'm not english.. 2nd.. ur cousin is dumber! hahahah!!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA THIS IS AWFUL!!!!!

  • Maybe the most amazing part is the reaction from the audience. I was expecting something like a bewildered silence.

  • My God! Listening to this is like getting beaten with a bag of oranges; it hurts like hell, but you don't show any bruising.

This performance was a train wreck, even by "sharezo" standards.

  • Hehehe... well to be fair to this lady, it was obviously an electronic keyboard that she performed on (perhaps even an unweighted one), and she was probably used to playing on a grand... which would make the experience a bit like "running on ice". I refuse to play on electronic keyboards because it always makes me sound like... well, that! I think we could laugh at her the same way we laugh at the poor victim of a practical joke... :) (But we certainly do laugh at people running on ice!)

  • @FortissimoCT In all seriousness, I think that may be the case. But she probably knew this ahead of time, so why not play the Raindrop Prelude or Ravel's Pavane? Or for something a little more virtuosic, why not Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag? It's a great non classical crowd pleaser.

  • @FortissimoCT and..if it wasn't an electronic keyboard??? still, she plays better than me XD

  • @FortissimoCT - To be sure, digital keyboard instruments will never feel, sound or respond exactly like original acoustic instruments. Having said that, I will also point out that even in 2000 there would have been half-decent, fully-weighted digital pianos suitable for Chopin use.

  • madame, what the hell are you doing? i've got a killer headache now...

  • i never new hindemith wrote a scherzo in his op.20!

  • This makes Jesus wanna sin.

  • This is the musical equivalent of Miss South Carolina.

  • she needs one more lesson with McCoy Tyner, and she'll NAIL it.

  • Is this supposed to sound stumbly and choppy? whack! whack! whack!

The slow section sounds much better, though. She's pretty good considering how hard the song is.

  • Scherzo indeed.

  • i didnt know chopin wrote a sherso.....

  • @scomdnz9 hahahaha, yeahhh

  • Its a joke!

Mis Texas 2000 was Tara Watson.

  • What's worse is that there is people that believes this is well played (and even from Chopin, if they know who Chopin was)...

That just shows the musical ignorance of this modern society.

  • I SO want to flag this as inappropriate, but I'm too busy wiping the tears from my eyes! Woo hoo hoo hoo hooooooo...

  • did she pushed piano down the stairs ?

  • That's what they call the INNER BEAUTY! :D

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! great 'sherrrzo'!

  • I'd like to think that somewhere, somehow, Chopin is laughing his decomposing head off.

  • Horrifying. I'm going to have nightmares about this one. "Sherzo"?? There's your tipoff, Sherlock. I'm sure no one at the Miss Texas pageant noticed anything amiss anyway.

  • Great!

  • Great!

  • Just american phantasie! They think, it's possible to learn playing piano for ca. 6 month... The girl could be much more pretty if she'd keep her fingers away from any piano (not only E-Piano's)

  • who else can play Chopin's first scherzo in less than 3 minutes?

  • Is this not just a joke? Surely it's a joke?

  • This is a disaster. I don't know what to say.

  • Actually, I think she's a genius. The combining of Thelonious Monks' piano style and Chopin.... brilliant! Just listen more carefully!

    michaelthecellist

  • Exactly what I was thinking! :) Haha, that was awesome.

  • LOL LOL LOL oh the poor darling... she totally arse raped that piece!!!!

usually people dont even get to the end after playing that badly, but it was a very interesting thing to hear her do so, so consistantly from the beginning till the very end! how totally bizarre.. CHOPIN, wouldn't be turning in his grave, but more, intrigued!

  • Tell your cousin to STOP, STOP, I said, STOP playing NOW. If I'd have been there I would have walked on stage and pulled the bench out from under her. This is the most hysterical bit of "playing" I've ever heard. Talent? Hardly. Beautiful? Who cares. God, I just can't stop laughing.

  • Yeah....not really trying to be mean, but I know how old you have to be to be in these pageants and she seriously needed to practice her 'talent' a little more and spend less time getting her eyebrows waxed b/c this isn't even close to Chopin.....also the announcer called it what?! sherzzzo....thank you ignorance!

  • so was Chopin

  • my ears are bleeding....-_-

  • The flowers over chopins grave have shriveled and wilted. Seriously though...wtf was she thinking?

  • i think she was playing with her feet

  • OMFG!

  • does exist the video of this!!?? hahahahahhaha!!!

  • Oh... my... GOD...

  • what's the matter with you listeners? can't you tell this is someone having fun and playing some 'out' jazz/classical improv as a joke? it loops in the middle-there are obvious edits-actually if she played this WELL-she wouldn't need to be in a pageant

  • @lapianoguy88 idiot

  • OMG!!! I can't decide what's uglier, the sound of the piano, her atrocious playing, or her face!! But the audience loved it (or maybe they were just happy that it was over) and she is wearing a crown. Did this "performance" win her the title??? What's a "sherzo" anyway?

  • She'd better get started with pink panther or something like that...hahaha :D

this is really the worst shit i've ever heard! chopin would have killed himself if he heard that crap

  • i think she needs to do a recital with Sarah Palin

  • It actually sounds like some weird kind of "out" jazz in places.

  • fantastic! She will be the next president of Van Cliburn competition. Sure.

  • are u serious??

  • Hahahaha!!.... oooo.. i think i just soiled myself from laughing too hard

  • this sounds like my parents having sex on my piano...

  • Even more frightening than the playing is the announcer's pronunciation of the word "scherzo" and the fact that the audience cheers. Beam me up, Scotty.

  • omg this is the worst crap I've ever heard in my life!!!!

  • Can she actually read music?? Dear God that was painful

  • She's not particularly attractive either. She's a waste of oxygen.

  • wtf is this??????

  • Comment removed

  • @himitsunosallychan You nailed it!

  • Future: horror movies! Family claps loud! How bout starting an anti-Cliburn in TEXASS?

  • she got the looks but not the skills!

  • HAHA SCHHHHHHERZO no. 1 LOL

  • oh mother of jesus, I cant even describe that in proper english.

  • Shortened for the pageant. Miss Elizondo had to condense this eight-minute piece down to just under two minutes. Now I believe telent presentations can only be 90 seconds....

  • HAHA!!

"I'm beautiful, why should I practice?"

  • well if anyone ever thinks that a beauty queen has a brain listen to this and be proved wrong!!

    priceless!!

  • bad playing at its best, lmao

  • LAUGHING MY BUTT OFFFFFFF, OMG. ROFL

  • SHOOT ME NOW STOP THE PAIN

  • At 15 played the hell out of this piece and it is one my favoroite pieces by Chopin. I can't believe that she even tried to play this. This is absolutely horrible.

  • What is a shayrzo?

  • >_> OMG Can he PRONOUNCE Chopin and Scherzo more badly?

  • wow. That was horrible. This is my favorite piece by Chopin and I can barely recognize it here. I'm at a loss for words it's so terrible.

  • Sounds like late Horowitz... : 0

  • ha... way worse than even late Horowitz >_>

  • Show-pan undergoin' a bit of Choppin'..! Shirts-ho...in B minus!

Arranged by Boulez/Shockhausen, edited by Condom Nancarrot!

The most enjoyable Rending of the Shirts-off, leaving all far behind her: Horrorhits, Sweatyslav Wrecked-her, Bore-is Bear-is-off-his-key, they are nothing in comparison. This (a)version is also the most ecologic, cutting out uneccessary parts and not wasting your time.

Can't wait to see Miss Sin-D in action! Will her visuals be up to her aurals? (so to speak).

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, LMAO. thanks for that, hahahaha

  • WIN!

  • this is the single, grossest piano performance that i have ever heard on youtube

  • Lala, do you recognise satire when you see it, and do you think your cousin could be persuaded to keep to beauty pageants and stay away from the piano? Please.

  • I can't stop listening to this, a sort of morbid fascination. I'm put in mind of someone falling down several flights of stairs. And shipyards. Chopins never done that to me before, a truly unique experience.

  • :) im loving the positive feedback for cindy :) shes my cousin! and yes she only got 4th, but she was miss teen texas in 96 :)

  • i really, really, REALLY hope your not serious when you say positive feedback!

  • Incredible! The Chèrzo as played by Miss Gulf Coast sounds as if it was composed yesterday...such exquisite phrasing, such noble singing tone, such delicacy and finesse in the virtuosic passagework, such immense technical prowess - it is ovbious that her real vocation is becoming a superb musician....bravo!

  • I instantly added this to my favorites! If it's a practical joke - it's great, if not - even greater!

Loved every moment and especially audience reaction! ;)

  • The weird thing is, I can actually listen to it several times. Because of her titanium touche, and miraculous ending, it has a strange allure... As far as I know it, it's not a practical joke...

    Greetings,

    Rolf

  • Rolf, you made my day! I really needed this today!

    She IS a dream-girl... ;)

  • Oh my God!......................
