oh my fucking god, this is by far the best piano playing with boxing gloves I have ever heard in my life :P well... maybe second best.. there was that one time that I saw a gorilla put on some boxing gloves and attempt this piece and boy, was he talented, still kudos for... uhmm.. yea... nevermind. *smile :)
I think you people making fun of this should be ashamed. First, consider that she must've been very nervous playing the piece for the first time. Second, she was obviously wearing boxing gloves while playing, and that didn't improve her technique.
She actually makes the piece sound very modern, like Cecil Taylor or an experimental piece with a distressed opossum running across the keys.
this has to be a joke. i've never heard anything so bad and so good at the same time. it's so contemptuous it's almost brilliant. of course even bad chopin is still interesting. i've purposely played religious songs like this, only to aggravate, in dissonant scales and odd signatures. you can't do this without contempt for the music or composer. no way this is an honest attempt.
This recording is by far the funniest video ever! I am a really young pianist and even I think this is really funny lol. I was recently in Minnesota for a music festival and my friend showed me this and I showed my piano teacher and I never seen him laugh so hard in my life. I was laughing so hard that I almost flagged as in innapropiate cuz this was so bad!!!! Hahahahahahaha.
Obviously either the piano is missing the pedal or Miss Gulf Coast is missing a foot ( in addition to her ears and apparently one side of her brain) AND Still the crowd roars.....
The scary thing is that the people who cheered - obviously knowing nothing about classical music, or just enjoying the trainwreck - went away thinking Chopin is a serialist composer. That's gonna sting em next time he comes up in a conversation and they are wanting to look smart.
Hang on I think I get it now. She didn't have enough time to perform the whole piece so her teacher tells her to take a beat out of the end of every bar and play the remaining notes twice as fast. To make up for the missing notes she played it with extra feeling (read: volume)
What the hell is happening here? This is like free jazz played by monkeys in a tumble dryer...there is a total dichotomy between the amount of skill required to play what I'm hearing here and the total lack of musical feeling required to butcher an interpretation this badly. Nothing about this any makes sense.
One time in orchestra the flute player was asked to play a run and was just horribly messing it up, so the director looked at her, paused for a second and said "You have a very pretty face."
Woo-hoo-hoo-hahahahaha. To laugh or cry, that is the question. Her "performance" sandwiched by the announcer and the audience cheering is just beyond belief. But, it inspired soooo many really funny comments. Thanks all!
An enormous amount of thought has gone into the ornamentation of this Chopin sharezo. I don't know any living pianist who can match this unique combination of Chopin, Scott Joplin and John Cage
click Yundi Li >>> that's how it's SUPPOSED to sound like .. Just cause people think someone is pretty does not let them get a free ticket to sound like shit or act like shit ... someone should have stopped her
Whoever taught her to play Chopin should have their wrists cut off for letting her play! Is this for real? I bet Chopin did a 360 Exorcist style in his grave!
Hehehe... well to be fair to this lady, it was obviously an electronic keyboard that she performed on (perhaps even an unweighted one), and she was probably used to playing on a grand... which would make the experience a bit like "running on ice". I refuse to play on electronic keyboards because it always makes me sound like... well, that! I think we could laugh at her the same way we laugh at the poor victim of a practical joke... :) (But we certainly do laugh at people running on ice!)
@FortissimoCT In all seriousness, I think that may be the case. But she probably knew this ahead of time, so why not play the Raindrop Prelude or Ravel's Pavane? Or for something a little more virtuosic, why not Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag? It's a great non classical crowd pleaser.
@FortissimoCT - To be sure, digital keyboard instruments will never feel, sound or respond exactly like original acoustic instruments. Having said that, I will also point out that even in 2000 there would have been half-decent, fully-weighted digital pianos suitable for Chopin use.
Horrifying. I'm going to have nightmares about this one. "Sherzo"?? There's your tipoff, Sherlock. I'm sure no one at the Miss Texas pageant noticed anything amiss anyway.
Just american phantasie! They think, it's possible to learn playing piano for ca. 6 month... The girl could be much more pretty if she'd keep her fingers away from any piano (not only E-Piano's)
LOL LOL LOL oh the poor darling... she totally arse raped that piece!!!!
usually people dont even get to the end after playing that badly, but it was a very interesting thing to hear her do so, so consistantly from the beginning till the very end! how totally bizarre.. CHOPIN, wouldn't be turning in his grave, but more, intrigued!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
that would be my cousin yal are talking about! and she is BEAUTIFUL and TALENTED. i bet yal are all ugly untalented folks, be nice, she was incredibly young at the time!
Tell your cousin to STOP, STOP, I said, STOP playing NOW. If I'd have been there I would have walked on stage and pulled the bench out from under her. This is the most hysterical bit of "playing" I've ever heard. Talent? Hardly. Beautiful? Who cares. God, I just can't stop laughing.
Yeah....not really trying to be mean, but I know how old you have to be to be in these pageants and she seriously needed to practice her 'talent' a little more and spend less time getting her eyebrows waxed b/c this isn't even close to Chopin.....also the announcer called it what?! sherzzzo....thank you ignorance!
what's the matter with you listeners? can't you tell this is someone having fun and playing some 'out' jazz/classical improv as a joke? it loops in the middle-there are obvious edits-actually if she played this WELL-she wouldn't need to be in a pageant
OMG!!! I can't decide what's uglier, the sound of the piano, her atrocious playing, or her face!! But the audience loved it (or maybe they were just happy that it was over) and she is wearing a crown. Did this "performance" win her the title??? What's a "sherzo" anyway?
Even more frightening than the playing is the announcer's pronunciation of the word "scherzo" and the fact that the audience cheers. Beam me up, Scotty.
