Just finished the game with my Vanguard. Well.. Actually I don't really like that class. The Charge is cool but on a higher difficulty level you die so fast... But my entire crew survived so I guess I'm gonna import that character when ME3 comes out.
why does shepard does not have any armour bar even when he is wearing it ? he doo have the shield and health......cos enemies have health and armour and barrier or shield....but shepard dont have any armour!!!!
i believe the sentinel must be one of the easiest clases, you can defeat any shield/armor/etc and you have the tech shield that explodes, i like also the stealth of the infiltrator but i must agree that the most fun is to charge with a vanguard, althouth i fail everytime i try to charge a Ymir.
this class is hard to use cuz this isnt a hit and run game if u charge into a mob of enemies ur pretty much screwed and most enemies in later lvls have armor and shields
@Helios2020 I know I didn't ask the question but I am having the same problem. I played adept the first game but I love running head on into the enemy and I know vanguard and sentinel are good for this.
@xPuReVisioN since you love running into enemies, then the sentinel is better choice than the vanguard. the vanguard have limmited defence, and when you charge in big mob you are pretty much screwed (dont get me wrong vanguard is my favorite) so vanguard should be played more tactical. sentinel: just take assault armour, shotgun training, use shotgun with more ammo, and run into them shoot them and leave them to take your armor down, then finish them while on the ground. pretty fun
@httm241 yeah, vanguard is the hardest on insanity. just he is much more tactical than others. he must be more carefull than others. but playing it was the most fun... charging from one enemy to other... shooting them in the gut with the claymore... much more satisfying than staing save in cover... and it depend on the player too. but the Last Stand Achievement was easiest for me as an engineer too. but not so fun as i said. the funniest are the charging vanguard and the assault sentinel.
@r3lax0rzz depends on whats ur style, but i prefer sentinel cuz of the cool armor, and biotics. But vanguards are tough brute warriors with an awsome vanguard charge. Have u played the first game and if you have what class?

@shingshongshamalama You can charge away from danger but you need a target. Charging also helps you survive because it restores your barrier. With full cool down bonus your charge just takes about four seconds to becoming usable again. It's also good for avoiding oncoming attacks like scions shockwaves, harbinger gravity balls, or ymir missles. Vanguards take a little work to use effectively. But there are lots of strategies you can use with charge.
I have beat ME2 on Insanity already as a Soldier. Trying Vanguard for the first time as we speak. Miranda barely shot Wilson :P I tried the "running away" the video said but it wouldn't let me. Shepard would just light up but wouldn't rush away.

@jeffglp Challenge... After getting decent with the Vanguard, there really is no challenge in it. Of course -- the charge bug can pose a challenge, but otherwise you charge in, insta gib 2 enemies, re-charge. Ehm, who even uses cover anymore?
Don't know, after learning to use all my squads abilities correctly, nothing seem the be a challenge in ME2 anymore.
@legendaryplayer thing is that until you get about 3 shotgun and 3 heavy skin weave upgrades, you have to be extra careful, and that's where the challenge comes in. but yeah, then it becomes easy. but it was more of a challenge than any of the other classes, and i've done a runthrough of ever class on insanity. hell, i never died on my soldier run.
@jeffglp Hm... Of course it gets a lot easier when you get the shotgun and heavy skin upgrades. However, you really do not need the heavy skin upgrade, and the shotgun upgrade is nice -- but not really needed. Of course, this is by using scimitar which got a decent ammo capacity beforehand.
Fun fact: I died a lot using engineer. Too defensive play for my style :/
Anyone who says that vanguards suck or that biotic charge is useless doesn't know how to use them. once biotic charge is fully upgraded Vanguards are extremely lethal. Especially if you have the claymore or geth shotgun. I played Vanguard on insanity and i loved it. You have to be smart if you are vanguard choose the right squadmates depending on what type of enemy you are fighting and target the right enemies if you just charge in on anyone like you're a soldier you'll die pretty fast.

A few things. Thane is on Jack's recruitment mission. Two, I played all classes. The betters are Soldier, Adept, Vanguard and Sentinel. Biotics are amazing, and I use the Geth Shotgun, so I have no issues with Insanity as a Vanguard.
you got to be prepared to die more often if you want to play as vanguard in insanity.
first time i tried Vanguard in highest difficulty, i can't remember how many time i have die in one mission. but i think i slowly got the point about learning the better way to use charge. good class but takes time to master it if you want to play it in insanity. and you will find it more fun than the other classes. trust me
Then you are not playing the Vanguard properly mate. Even on Insanity, you should be gunning up close. You simply have to pick your targets carefully. Check some vids around here. A good combo though is taking Slam as your bonus power and bringing Miranda and Thane. Strip enemy defense with your SMG or Miri's Overload, use Slam and immediately trigger Thane's Warp. Highest damage output in the game.
@Atheral I'm not a fan of the mixed classes. I prefer all tech, combat, or biotics. Not a mix. Soldiers are tough as hell to kill with adrenaline burst to help get out of deadly situations and Legion's Geth Shield boost increasing weapon damage. Just the same, no one can touch an Adept. With Mordin and Warp to break through defenses rapidly, enemies will be flying through the air in no time. Few things are better at killing enemies than detonating a singularity with Warp
@MrAoiSekai Real men play Vanguard, on Insanity difficulty. Real Men charge YMIRs, on instanity...Real fucking men charge the Praetorians head on and bludgeon them to death.
The first time I played the suicide mission, I played a Vanguard. During previous years of gaming, I was cultured with the knowledge of Leeroy Jenkins.
I had a field day with the first few enemies of the Collector base and the sound limits of my house as I biotic charged into the faces of each and every collector with a Krogan shotty. ; )
@pefjavier leeroy jenkins is a popular video about a guild in World of warcraft where one guy charged into nest of strong enemies and screams "Leeroy Jenkins" and gets his whole team killed. Look it up
seems a bit counter-intuitive. The combat system is designed around cover-based fire and the whole point of the class is to run directly in front of your enemies without any cover...
Lol...I play on insanity only, soldiers and infiltrators are gods there. biotic classes become extremely weak once all enemies have shields or armor, guns are far more effective than biotics against shielded or armored enemies. Of course, Vanguards and adepts are absurdly powerful on veteran and below, since most enemies only have health, and your powers actually work.
The only thing not entirely true about what she said is using Charge to quickly get away from enemies. Charging to an open area doesn't work, you HAVE to charge at an enemy. There are many times when I'm way too close to a huge mech and it's the only enemy on the field, so I can't evade it the badass way with Charge, I gotta run like hell which usually ends with me dead. :(
@jajabinks92 No, no, no! You can use charge on a mech. Just flunk it and pound it with a heavy weapon, retreat before it can orient, by that time its defenses are down to half armor and it's one shotgun shell-charge combo away from scrap.
@allankles Cool, but that wasn't my problem. My problem was Christina in the video saying that "you can use Charge to evade a tight situation!! WOO!" BUT, since you can only charge AT enemies, the only way you can evade a situation is if there's some stupid loner enemy not part of the action (VERY rare to happen) that you can Charge at. If I'm surrounded by a horde of enemies or (without heavy weapon ammo) too close to mech, I WANNA CHARGE to wherever the hell I want without targeting somebody.
@GloveMC Vanguards are the weakest class in the game on hardcore or above. Of course, they're still the most fun class, but as soon as enemies start getting defenses, they fall flat.
@SteelFyire Every class has its uses, even in Insanity. The Vanguard is actually the best class for taking out enemies quickly, on all difficulties. The charge is also a good defense (aside from being a great offensive set up), instant shield recharge is a life saver.
So far, I've only used the Soldier, class, but I do like that assault rifle against a wave of enemies. I liek to save heavy weapons for last resort until I run out of options.

Not very good on insanity? More like cheating on insanity. The Vanguard is probably the best class for an insanity run. All you need is the charge. And maybe the pull for warp explosions.
@Jericho921 I agree. Once you really get the hang of vanguard, it's an awesome class to play. I feel it's more fast paced than the other classes for one. My Biotic Charge is pretty overpowered. Basically Charge, shields fill back up from that, shotgun in the face, avoid fire for about 3 seconds until Charge is back up, repeat.
I had an easier time surviving with my vanguard, which is supposed to be the risky class to play, than my soldier. Funny since in ME1 soldier was like the tank class.

Playing as a Vanguard is the funnest, most intense gaming experience I've had in recent memory!
By the way, I've beat the game several times with a Vanguard on Insanity, including two NG+ playthroughs.
The ones talking crap about the Vanguard just don't know how to play the class well.

Vanguard is a super risky class on Insanity. Whenever i'm up close with the shotgun, i get cut to ribbons by enemy fire. Close range+guns=bad idea

with Claymore trick, Vangaurd is basically the most powerful class in the game :P

@Atheral I'm not a fan of the mixed classes. I prefer all tech, combat, or biotics. Not a mix. Soldiers are tough as hell to kill with adrenaline burst to help get out of deadly situations and Legion's Geth Shield boost increasing weapon damage. Just the same, no one can touch an Adept. With Mordin and Warp to break through defenses rapidly, enemies will be flying through the air in no time. Few things are better at killing enemies than detonating a singularity with Warp

The first time I played the suicide mission, I played a Vanguard. During previous years of gaming, I was cultured with the knowledge of Leeroy Jenkins.
I had a field day with the first few enemies of the Collector base and the sound limits of my house as I biotic charged into the faces of each and every collector with a Krogan shotty. ; )

@pefjavier leeroy jenkins is a popular video about a guild in World of warcraft where one guy charged into nest of strong enemies and screams "Leeroy Jenkins" and gets his whole team killed. Look it up

seems a bit counter-intuitive. The combat system is designed around cover-based fire and the whole point of the class is to run directly in front of your enemies without any cover...

Lol...I play on insanity only, soldiers and infiltrators are gods there. biotic classes become extremely weak once all enemies have shields or armor, guns are far more effective than biotics against shielded or armored enemies. Of course, Vanguards and adepts are absurdly powerful on veteran and below, since most enemies only have health, and your powers actually work.

The only thing not entirely true about what she said is using Charge to quickly get away from enemies. Charging to an open area doesn't work, you HAVE to charge at an enemy. There are many times when I'm way too close to a huge mech and it's the only enemy on the field, so I can't evade it the badass way with Charge, I gotta run like hell which usually ends with me dead. :(

@jajabinks92 No, no, no! You can use charge on a mech. Just flunk it and pound it with a heavy weapon, retreat before it can orient, by that time its defenses are down to half armor and it's one shotgun shell-charge combo away from scrap.

@allankles Cool, but that wasn't my problem. My problem was Christina in the video saying that "you can use Charge to evade a tight situation!! WOO!" BUT, since you can only charge AT enemies, the only way you can evade a situation is if there's some stupid loner enemy not part of the action (VERY rare to happen) that you can Charge at. If I'm surrounded by a horde of enemies or (without heavy weapon ammo) too close to mech, I WANNA CHARGE to wherever the hell I want without targeting somebody.

@Sm000thKriminal Vanguards are crazy, powerful physical monsters, I am playing right now as one in hard mode and it is a great warrior.

@GloveMC Vanguards are the weakest class in the game on hardcore or above. Of course, they're still the most fun class, but as soon as enemies start getting defenses, they fall flat.

@SteelFyire Every class has its uses, even in Insanity. The Vanguard is actually the best class for taking out enemies quickly, on all difficulties. The charge is also a good defense (aside from being a great offensive set up), instant shield recharge is a life saver.

I never really thought of using charge as a way to get out of a tough situation.
I have gotten killed running for cover quite a few times.
Thing is, often enemies are "over there" and safety is "back here"

So far, I've only used the Soldier, class, but I do like that assault rifle against a wave of enemies. I liek to save heavy weapons for last resort until I run out of options.

Not very good on insanity? More like cheating on insanity. The Vanguard is probably the best class for an insanity run. All you need is the charge. And maybe the pull for warp explosions.

@Jericho921 I agree. Once you really get the hang of vanguard, it's an awesome class to play. I feel it's more fast paced than the other classes for one. My Biotic Charge is pretty overpowered. Basically Charge, shields fill back up from that, shotgun in the face, avoid fire for about 3 seconds until Charge is back up, repeat.
I had an easier time surviving with my vanguard, which is supposed to be the risky class to play, than my soldier. Funny since in ME1 soldier was like the tank class.
