This helped me a little bit with my 05 Civic, I just did a rear disc swap and the brakes are pretty similar (besides bolt pattern) I had a drum brake before this and those are hell to change.
This is not a proper brake job, do not do this!!! You must turn or replace rotors, lubricate back of pads, guide pins, and ensure brake hardware is in good condition, and lastly bleed brakes. Those steps are necessary to achieve factory stopping distance and avoid brake noise, and pulsation in brake pedal.

I've read some pretty crazy comments on this video. If you've never done anything more mechanical than changing the air freshener hanging from your rear view mirror then this video won't really help you. I grew up working on cars, trucks and buses. If you have the know how you can save about 2/3 on your auto repairs and maintenance. Unfortunately most new autos have very sophisticated electronic components that make it hard for the "shade tree" mechanic to work on. Do it right the first time!
you should have got your rotors resurfaced and that manuel sitting on your tire just makes you look pro i bet you were having a hell of a tim compressing the caliper :)

And it wouldn't matter that you already had the pads and rotors because I have never heard of a mechanic that will use parts that you're bringing in... They'll use their own parts to insure that they are the correct parts and of good quality. They are liable for those things...

Find a nice mom and pop shop in your town. Leave your brake work to changing interior lights or maybe a air filter. Btw, if you are gonna do brakes, Disks are now cheap...not like older days when you had to grind them. Get disk and pads together..........Make your car 100% stop, not 95%. Be safe.
Supertrex is incorrect. Normal caliper pistons are pushed back in with pressure. As ive just found out, these Honda Calipers require CLOCKWISE turning on the piston. A vice grip, chisel or VERY wide screwdriver and a bit of strength are all thats needed to turn these.
@samlo6. its just a square shaped tool you can buy at practically any auto parts store. (just tell them you want the tool that decompresses the caliper piston in) but a lot of cars actually would require a C-clamp to depress the piston instead of the tool he used.
Rotors are the drum looking things behind the wheels that the pads use as friction. In this video, he sprays them with the green can.
And by "turn", evolucion311 means to take them off, and have the friction surface machined away so that the new brake pads have a smooth surface to press against... otherwise the life of the brake pad is noticebly shortened.
Good question though... I only realized what a rotor was about a month ago.
@evolucion311 I never have rotors turned; if they're that bad, I just replace them. My dealer did the pads-only once; 40,000 miles later the pads are still OK while the rotors are too-thin, but not noticeably warped. I used to find glazed rotors with the old organic pads but not semi-metallic ones. The rotors wear almost as fast as the pads on these cars, it's almost as if they get re-surfaced constantly.
C-clamp for the FRONT calipers, not the REAR. On the rear disc calipers, you turn them clockwise as shown, just be sure to line up the slot with the pin on the inner pad.

Front brakes are pretty similar to rear. Not much more to it.
Not sure about older body style. Sorry. But if anything typically the older cars are similar and even simpler. That is unless, the rear brakes are drum brakes. Those require a little more time, patience and muscle. If your rear brakes are disc, should be pretty straight forward.
no the 92 can be a pain cause it has the wheel hub over the rotor which you can risk breaking the hub if your not careful this year the hub is behind the rotor.
Not familiar with Lancer. Most cars you can use a C-clamp from a hardware store to press it back in. On this model Honda this won't work. In fact it will damage the caliper. You have to screw it back in. They have a special tool that looks like a + sign. I just used some needle nose pliers.
Oh and at 0:32 I used a regular off the shelf brake cleaner to trap and remove hazardous brake dust.
this project is very easy but the hardest part is taking off the god damn bolts. they always get fucked up after trying to take them off. use a 12mm ratchet for that. DONT USE A wrench. it'll screw up the bolt really bad.
Thanks for making the video. My 04 Accord is squeaking in the rear indicating the pads are worn, so this will come in handy. The comment about turning in the piston instead of forcing it in will save me a bunch of frustration. It's debateable whether you need to open the bleeder or not. If you are unsure about the condition of the fluid, just do a FASCAR test or simply do a brake system flush.
How did you get the piston pushed back in the caliper? I tried using a C clamp and that didn't budge it. This is the only piston I've not been able to get pushed back in. Please respond.
On the Accord you can't use the C-clamp. You have to screw the caliper back in. Notice the video at 1:20. There is a special tool that looks like a + to do it, or you can use some needle nose pliers spread about 1" and place in the + shape on caliper and turn it several turns until it's flush with the flange. Hope that helps.
You're absolutely right. Will do it next time. The rotors are fairly cheap and easy to replace. In fact, the stock rotors were pretty worn after only 25,000 miles.
He only did one thing wrong. He pressed the caliper piston back in with out opening the bleader valve. You never want to pusht the dirty brake fluid inside the caliper, back up throught the ABS valve. Of course then you have to bleed the brakes, but you'll save the possibility of ruining your antilock brakes.

Thanks. I have to do the rears on my 2000 Accord very soon. I did the ones on my 1987 Accord years ago, with the help of my H&H manual but they don't publish one for the later models. I wondered if there would be any major differences and thanks to your vid I see the procedure is much the same. Don't you have to disconnect the handbrake mechanism first, though? By the way, I was interested to see the body shape on your USA(?) model is very different from the any sold here in the UK.
You don't have to disconnect the handbrake mechanism. I used a Chilton or Haynes manual. Bought that on Ebay. It was a very simple procedure. Good luck!
@david - If you've done one set of disc brakes before, you know all you'll need to know to handle just about any manufacturer's brakes. They're all designed better than they used to be, from an ease of maintenance perspective.
Miles Davis and Brakes...nice. You didn't show the part where you have to drain the brake fluid in the resevoir though. Otherwise when pressing down on the calipers to insert the new pads, you would have fluid all over the engine compartment.

Remove the master cylinder cap first (don't forget to put it back on when finished)
I have had back luck with rotors manufactured in Mexico, they warp.
I also don't like turning rotors, especially if the goove is fairly deep, turned rotors warp prematurely.
Spend the extra money and buy the better quality pads.

Ghetto way of doing it. Really should pick up new rotors, get the existing rotors turned or at least scuff up the existing rotors at a bare minimum.
He will probably be back at AutoZone claiming warranty on those brake pads saying they are junk and squealing due to his own lack of effort.

Rotors should always be turned as a rule.
Its pointless to put fresh brake pads on a warped, grooved rotor.
There are imperfections in a rotor you may not be able to see but at high speeds they manifest themselves.
ALWAYS TURN ROTORS WHEN REPLACING BRAKES.

Break Cleaner is correct. It traps all the break dust so that you don't end up inhaling it. Worth the price.
