  • jackass

    not tsuchiya

  • might as well been titled in japanese too....dick. how am i supposed to learn these driving techniques now

  • Great Video! But Can you drift on a bike like us??? :o

  • I never knew Ebisu East was during that time :(

  • Omg i wish i had mad skills like keiichi hes a beast.

  • stupid redline buzzer tryna tell the drift king when to shift!

  • its a Stock FC !

  • THE WAY HIS CAR GLIDES EVEN AT THOSE SPEEDS JUST SHOWS WHO IS THE KING OF THE FC. I KNOW ITS A GREAT CAR AVERAGING AROUND ID SAY WHAT 230 HP AND STILL ABLE TO BE KEPT UNDER CONTROL WOW I IDLE THIS MAN WITH A PASION DEEPER THAN ANYONE COULD EVER KNOW

  • i love the FC with a pasion but if i had a choice of any car i would have to pick the EIGHT-SIX its so well rounded and has a great center of balance around it not to mentioin i love FR cars

  • my fc makes the same beeping noise when i drift. what is it? it annoys the shit out of me lol

  • @cameroooony18 That's the redline buzzer.

  • @rob550 yeah thats what i thought. thanks

  • @cameroooony18 it's a shift light with a beeper I wonder if you can hear it outside the car like in this vid or is there a mic in the car

  • his drifting is art

  • just steers sooo easily, its incredible!

  • The drifts are smooth, there's little correction on the steering, and he did all that on an FC with stock suspension. He's the best.

  • its an Ẽfini

  • @chriskocon Correction its an Infini, different model entirely

  • i have an FC#S they are FUCKEN BEAUTIFUL CARS

  • it's not an infini.. it's a savanna RX7

  • i sure would like to know what the translation is though

  • that is the smoothest transition out of a drift i have ever seen

  • I think his drifts are perfect, at least to me it is. His racing line looks just GREAT.

  • keiichi is so good, i have watched hes videos many times and never get bored... this guy is so great.......

  • all i know that he is one of the pioneers in drifting. he started drifting in 1980's using his AE86. He has so many videos like the drift bible where it teaches people who are willing to learn in drifting. in other words, he is good at what he does and he is not selfish coz he teaches the youngsters who loves racing and drifting.

  • You all talk too much! Why not try to race with him, let's see if you win. bbosoy is correct, who would call him a drift king if he isn't good at all. 81kamill is a noob at all. look at his account... it's blank (o.o) No wonder he was disliked here at youtube.

  • isnt it true he was the first person to drift around every corner of tsukuba or however u spell it?

  • Comment removed

  • Eh, Im not sure if he said that. Though many people don't hold it up highly as a skillful way to drift. We call it "ass-dragging" cuz thats what your doing, locking your rears, keeping them locked, and the front wheels pull your car around, much akin to a dog scratching its butt on a carpet.

  • Thanks =)

  • Anyone can learn, well kinda but so can anyone learn to fly a plane, shoot a gun, or build a computer. He's not just a hot head slamming down the peddle to look "KEWL DUUDE" It takes skill to do what he does, ill be the first to say I cant do it like him, but I'm willing to practice in order to, atleast one day.

  • Comment removed

  • They don't call him he drift king because he can drift better than others. They called him the drift king because back in the days he linked a japanese track only by drifting the whole lap. That's how he got the name. And if you didn't know.. He is... THAT good at racing and driving. Watch his touge's

  • he has nothing to prove.. he is what he is.. besides, even if someone is better than him, he doesnt care cause he wants to teach that to others that wants to try... matter as a fact, if u really want to know how good he is.. is to do it yourself.. then u can reflect on it... u cant understand by just watching... im doing it so i know how it is

  • in early drift constests he won everything = better than others

  • hes the father of drifting

  • Comment removed

  • He didn't just drift. He raced professionally, and got suspended because he kept street racing. You're right about him not being the only drifter, but he was very good at what he did.

And ROC? im not positive, but he raced in Lemans series, winning his class and 8th place overall back in the mid 90s, and I think he did some road racing for some NASCAR santioned races. Its not us emailing you, its youtube telling you we replied to your message... I think you could disable that if you wanted to.

  • Comment removed

  • he's the guy who started the drift trend. and in one competition he linked all the drifts through every corner that no one else did. that's why he's known as the best

  • Comment removed

  • This video was made well over 20 years ago, when drifting was not very popular. This video demonstrates the primitive drifting techniques with a car that was popular during those times. The driver in this video is still considered one of the best drifters today in the world, with coverage similar to that of Rhys Millen and Ken Block.

  • Comment removed

  • Without Keiichi Tsuchiya, drifting would not be as world reknown, or as advanced as it is today. The reason he doesn't stand out to you, is because everyone strives to be like HIM. He pioneered many of the techniques, and brought them into the mainstream. Watch more videos of him, espesially with his lil HachiRoku, and tell me hes not different. If you still think he isn't, then we are observing it on two different wavelengths... Dorikin & the lil Hachi that DID.

  • Look at 2:00 to 2:10

Now that's what I call smooth drifting (and that's with stock standard RX-7 without all the fancy suspension)

  • Comment removed

  • that's smooth asssssss

  • this vid is old

but the driver is keiichi "drift king" tsuchiya one of the best drifters in the world ;)

  • I love how you can hear the shift buzzer during the in cabin and wheel shots.

  • that is rx-7 savana rite??

  • Such a nice car :)

  • also, can sumone explain the physics of when he downshifts from 4 to 3 then 2 and then countersteers?

  • well, downshifting will keep the power up so he can keep using the power 2 slide. not that power is always needed

  • yes he heel-toes while downshifting to keep the revs up

  • sorry i'm a dumbass. can sumone translate? i don't think the first drift he does is an ebrake drift. can someone translate the slo mo when the cam shows what he's doing?

  • It's called Shift Lock. When you are going at high speeds and shift to the lower gear and let off the clutch, your back end will kick out, then add counter steer.

  • so the lock is what initiates the wheel slip?

  • Yep

Search "Shift Lock Technique" and it'll explain.

  • is it supposed to be for FWD or RWD?

  • rwd, fwd's shift lock would add even more understeer to the extreme amounts it already has

  • Properly driven, fwd doesn't have to be understeer all the way though.

  • for shift lock techniques it will. that was the question which i answered.

  • True, definiteley don't want to lock an fwd. :'D

  • preferably rwd sucka

  • hosted by keiichi tsuchiya on rx7 infini 3

  • Look how fast he carries the FC through corners. This is proof why he is the "Drift King". I Love FC's!!!

  • I like that that song at 5:03! :) Do you know what song it is and if, so can you tell me?

  • starring vanessa hudgens and rx7 infini 3

  • Oh that godawful redline beep... Yeah that's definitely not Tsuchiya because he wears a green suit/helmet. I want to get my Turbo II running again! Such a better grip car, dunno why everyone wants to drift such a well-balanced car. Get a hooptie 240SX if you wanna drift

  • because everyone drifts silvias, and it requires real skill to drift a car with a peaky torque curve and immense ammounts of grip

  • Everytime a video comes up for anything information geeks and jerks pollute the comments sections....

Anyways, great video thanks for posting this up.

  • That is Manabu Orido driving, not Tsuchiya Keiichi! Only one person has said that in the comments.

I don't even recall hearing Tsuchiya Keiichis' name said once in that clip. Even for those who don't know Japanese you can, at the very least, understand peoples names.

It would have been nice if it was him.

Its rare to see Tsuchiya driving a FC3S. Let alone drifting one. More likely to see him drifting a S2000 and most likely a FD3S.

Those cars are difficult to drift even for Tsuchiya.

  • this makes me want to go redline my car to hear my buzzer

  • I LOVE FC!!!

    the best car

  • quality drifting a very informative vid 5 stars.

  • i like the way all of u guys lie about driving these cars

  • You do realize these cars are easy to get and dirt cheap to buy?

    I'm only 18, and I'm about to buy my first car, a 1990 FC3S.

  • In Japan perhaps but not in NA. They can still cost decent money if you want one in good/passable condition. KBB values in past months have actually gone up.

  • Yeah, but these cars never really ran at KBB prices in the first place, they almost always run a little higher, due to the cult popularity of the car. The 1990 I'm about to purchase is only $4,500, in very nice condition. Then there are the good condition rolling chassis, which cost around $600.

  • NA or turbo?

  • It's NA for the sake of reliability, I'm buying it for use as a daily driver, with the intention to add a turbo, and otherwise upgrade it heavily over time.

  • How is NA gonna help with reliability especially if ya gonna turbo it anyway. Get a turbo for starters and get better interior brakes diff ect.

  • yeah im 18 as well and i currently own a 1990 fc3s. Love it heaps, tis an awesome car =]

  • but that one sucks if its NA. i looked up the last year edition of the FC and i think its 91' right? but it was an infiniti and they wanted 25k with 40 thousand miles. but u do gotta realize everybody talking about driving the FD and the RX-8's as if they drive them now. i mean come on now we on youtube. i'm 17 driving a 95' ford escort. true or false?

  • Where did you see a '91 FC for 25k?

An FC is worth only a few thousand in perfect condition.

  • the internet. it was crystal white. remember i also said infini rx-7

  • Find me a link if you don't mind, I'd like to see it. Because $25,000 for any FC, even if it was in truly perfect condition is ridiculous, the car cost less than that new from the factory 17 years ago.

  • It was 25,000 cause it had 23,000 in the glovebox LOL

  • you are wrong the release year for rx7's were 1st gen US 79 to 85 japan 78 to 84 2nd gen Was 85 to 91 92 began the 3rd gen, they release their cars a year ahead of us. By the way the first gen had a turbo 12a thats the reason for t2 for the fc we got the 13b for 84. I miss my 1984 gslse

  • the first gen with the 12a never came out with a turbo they didnt make turbo rotaries until 86 in the s4 i have an australian delieved factory turbo s4

  • AS WE ALL KNOW THE FC ARE KNOWN AS TURBO 2s IN THE STATES. BECAUSE 1ST GEN RX7S CAME WITH A TURBO, NOT POSITIVE OF THE YEAR INTRODUCED BUT WE GOT THE 13B GSL-SE. IF YOU DO A SEARCH FOR 12A TURBO I AM SHORE YOU WILL HAVE A HIT.

  • you pwned him big time, s3 ( still gen 1 ) had option in some countries for 12at engine which still very good engine

  • In Japan Mazda did not allow the sales of FCs without a turbo. In the US the N/A cars were sold because of MPG and insurance. In the US the 13Bt was introduced in the Turbo II models in 1987.

The 12A Turbos were sold in the Cosmos from 1982 - 1989, in the Luce from 1982 - 1985, and in the SA/FB RX-7s in 1984 and 1985.

  • Very nicly said DocEvil000! Props for knowing your facts :)

  • Thanks!

  • FC's are easy to get your hands on, I've gotten one for 500 and it ran great. I sold it because it was N/A. Just look around anyone could pick up these kinds of cars for cheap.

  • Ive owned 2 fc and I rip with a Fd right now.....FD owns all, never had the chance to drive a fb tho....

  • not only that, fc feels bulkier than fd too. some ppl say fc was the best made rx7 ever, and quality wise, it might be true. however, driving feel wise, fd > fb > fc.

  • This means you've (extensively) driven all three? Or are you puking back some bullshit somebody told you? Does this also mean you think the 1st gen's live rear axle (think pick up truck) makes for better feel than the IRS of a FC? Lift throttle oversteer as fun as it is does not count as good driving feel, this usually happens with a live rear axle.

  • That last comment was directed to redbullrobert.

  • have you driven the 3? i've only driven a FC and a FD and the SE3P (RX8) and yeah i dont see much difference whilst drifting beteween the 3 apart from the power the FD is lighter and has more power but the SE is just in a differnt class because its a NA engine not turbo charged so yeah, honestly have you driven the 3?

  • that was also for redbullrobert

  • Now... I'm not puking up some bullshit someone told me. I've owned and taken to the track all 3 generations of rx-7's and I can definately tell you a FC feels better than a SA/FB. FD's I do admit 'feels better'. It's much more comfortable to drive at the limits, but I personally have been able to take my FC around the track faster than my FD. Now this is subjective, but I do feel a FC would, in the end, be faster than a FD around a track. Assuming they were equally modified.

  • You didn't answer my question nor did you get the point of my reply. I'm trying to point out your claim that the fb/sa (1st gen rx-7) has better driving feel than a fc (2nd gen). I'm just wondering if you've driven both... extensively. Because I have, and I find it hard to believe that anyone who has driven both *extensively* feels that the fb/sa has more/better driving feel with its solid rear axle than a fc with IRS.

  • dude, you're an idiot. It's Manabu Orido.

  • i swear you need to stfu. what video are u not in? are u like stalking me? everytime im looking up cars with rotary engines here u come popping. i'm studying stop being a dick head.

  • u stupid ass and tsuchiya can drift a heavy front skyline. don't big mouth if u don't know much...

save your comment in your empty head!!

  • so can orido. orido is better ok

  • no tsuchiya is better....

  • EfiniFC'90 = 1200 kg; EfiniFD'91 = 1260

  • Infini FC, you mean

  • fc from 90 to 92 is listed at 1230kg empty (no gas, no driver).

i have a shipping document from when my FD was brought here, it's an actual weight, i.e. they put it on a scale, 1245kg. that's with a full tank of gas. and my car has rear seats in it too. with the seats out, the fd is lighter.

  • This looks identical to my FC. Except my paint on my car is old :(

  • can i get some subs ?

  • in canada cars like that have to be at least 15 years old or older :(

  • He is Superman

    o m g g g g g g g

  • that meant to be "wouldnt" even consider an FC! FDFDFDFDFDFDFD

  • I have driven both (stock & mod), The FD is in a totally different league to the FC; FD wins in all categories! I much prefered the FD, but the FC was quite fun to chuck around!

Dollar per go, the FC is awesome value, like for $10k you can get a nice series 5, but you will need more like $30k for a good series 6 and even more for a series 7 or $70k+ for (my dream car) series 8 Spirit R type A!

FC is cheap fun but the FD is faster by miles!!!

  • yeah..... fd and fc are similar price.. well maybe not in america, but in japan, they are pretty much the same price, import it to here.. canada.. a decent FD under 100km probably around 12k, 10k for a fc

  • damn, i wish i lived over your way! In Australia the FD is still alot more expensive! In that case i would even consider an FC, straight for the FD! :)

  • that's because you can only import 10year old cars (or that seems to be the majority of what's ending up there). here everything's from 1993 or earlier.

  • '93 or earlier? where the hell do you live?

  • what does it matter?

  • just wanted to know where it would be where I can find a place like that

  • any country with used car import laws will let you import cars 10 or 15 years old

  • 25 years for the US

  • Punished the FC like it should be... hehehe

  • personally, I think the FD is a better car than the FC

  • there both good, but in different ways

  • Personally, I bet you've driven neither one and are basing your opinion on... nothing?

  • uh, yeah I have, the FD's not as fast, but it responds better to the driver

  • You've just proved my point... stock out of the box the FD is much faster in 0-60 and quarter mile etc compared to a Turbo II.

  • well, yeah, you're only talking about drag racing, which sucks and requires no skills

  • So you are telling me if we took a stock Turbo II and a stock FD to say... Nurburgring that the FC would pull a faster lap time?

Yeah... I'm done chatting with you now, lol.

  • well, yeah, if it's stock, I'd say the FC would be faster, but then I've never driven stock versions of either of them, so I wouldn't know, I'v only driven my friends' modified FC + FD, just felt that the FD was better

  • lol are you fucking stupid? the fd is lighter, it has more horsepower, better suspension and better steering. it also has 50.5/49.5 weight ratio. are you fucking dense? the fd is faster in all respects than all rx7's before it.

  • hey dumbass the fc is littler by afew hundred pounds but the fd is superior in everway because of technology. You should the know the stats of all the rx7 if your a true rotoary lover!

  • FD is lighter than FC.

  • i dont care what one is lighter i own a FC and i love it i cant drive it anymore but when i was drivng it i was in the prosess of lerning how to drift so i dont care what is better or lighter i like mine :D

  • The FC is lighter then the FD (comparing stock base coupe 90' FC with a stock base coupe 93' FD) when both are fully stock with no extra dead weight.

  • Maybe that depends on your definition of redline... the FD's beep starts at 7500 but the hard redline (with revlimiter) is 8000.

  • wow he was above redline the whole time (notice the beeping noise)

  • I believe the FC is like my FD, the beeping isn't above redline, it starts the last 500 RPM before redline.

  • hmmm wierd. my fc buzzes right at redline

  • that's to protect your engine from death. keep it on and dont try to take it off. lol

  • yea i know what the redline warning is for. but Beardini said his fc buzzes 500 RPM before redline

  • rocketcarmike said that, but yeah thanks i got mixed up about what you were talking about.

  • or just learn jap....all he says is the type of breaking drift is very difficult hahahaha

    right he is!

  • not as easy as it sounds.

  • I think that is why FCs are popular for budget drifters, they'll go nuts from the factory, im glad dad didnt buy one other while i would already be dead :D

  • YEah. Now thats how to drive

  • its a stock fc, keiichi get those suspencions adjusted or changed

  • He makes it look so easy:)

  • stock... it's the driver.. not the car :)

  • cars can drift,, with the suspension changed.. hehe...

  • You can tell the car is stock with the way the body rolls and dives under braking, also this vid is from the Group N era not le mans

  • all hail drift king!

  • were not worthy!

  • would be better with subtitles lol...

  • I have an FC RX-7 TurboII its sick.

  • Rx7 Rotary Power !!! I love watching how he drives

  • I'm almost certain this FC is stock, otherwise they probably would have disabled that annoying as fuck rev buzzer

  • his racing suit looks like when he was driving for honda in an NSX GT in le mans. i could be wrong tho

  • is he using shock/spring combo? is it harder to drift with a shock/spring setup?

  • its not really harder and this car is stock in the video as far as i can tell i dont own an rx7 infini :-(
