I'm a gwailouh and never knew any name for these other than the chinese name or custard tart. I've never been to HK though, mabye some day I'll get a chance to try them there.
Ahhh someone else who visits HK for the same reason I do - to have great egg tart.... right off to the kitchen for me - gonna try and make my own (if I fail, it is ok... cos I will be back in HK around May 2012)
Great video! This is the type of egg tart I like too, with the flaky as opposed to crumbly crust. Luckily I don't have to fly to Hong Kong for this, but I don't mind visiting again.
Apparently these were made in Portugal First, the Chinese copied the Portuguese, this is what my CHINESE mum said who was born in Hong Kong before anyone wants to call me a douche! Ive tried the Portuguese version of this and IMO the Chinese is better since the Portuguese version is waaaaaaay to sweet
this is neat! im from Hk but live overseas now. it's awesome to see local food being appreciated and promoted - makes me miss HK! ps your choux pastry vid is great thank you

wait... do they need to empty each egg tart foil by hand? dont they stick to the base of the shell? cos they're making like 3000, it would be a pain.
0asian1nvasion0 1 year ago
@0asian1nvasion0 it doesnt stick cuz of the large about of butter in the crust
