  • I LIKE TO CALL THAT THE CHUGGING DANCE THE WAY THAY SOUND TOGETHER

  • THE BIG BOY *drool*

  • I have two of them as you can see in the video.

  • How many Big Boys do you have? The one with 53 reffers has different chuffs.

  • Holy Crap, look at the size of those boilers!!!! o_O

  • Ah there's nothing better than the sight and sound of 2 Big Boys double heading together.

    Perfict, Just Perfict.

  • dang man, where do you find all these trains

  • That is the price you pay for running such a large locomotive on the horrendously tight curves we have in model railroads.

  • Nasty overhang.

  • I love the Big Boy and the Yellowstone. I have one of each, both MTH. I read that the Yellowstone had about 4500 more pounds of tractive power then the Big Boy. Great machines. Thanks

  • nice

  • Lets see the whole layout!

  • SAWEET DOUBLE HEADED BIG-BOYS!

    That's like 4 times the HP of a Dash-9!

  • are the powed by steam or electric(the toy train that is) message me back

  • more like 40

  • electric. They do put on a good show though to make you think otherwise.

You know those garden trains (not G scale) that you ride on? Well, some of those are actually powered by steam. Not sure what they're called though.

  • There are actually REAL O-gauge steam locomotives that run on steam. They're fired with alcohol. The larger ones you're talking about are fired by oil or actual coal.

  • Really? I had no idea. That's incredible, but sounds complicated.

  • I live right by the real 4012.

    great models

  • 2 is always good...But why do you need 2???

  • love it, how much did you spend on everything that is there? love to know, thanks.

  • Now that is soooooo cool! Impressive!

  • Think those are impressive? [they are] I've got a 4-8-8-4 BIG BOY+tender in...G SCALE! All 4-1/2 feet of it. Supposedly 1 of 2 in B.C.- I are sooo proud!

  • Man. Nice. How does it run?

  • That's probably $3,000 right there.

  • where did you get the two bigboys

  • It just speaks for itself! Awesome!

  • What are the things protosounds 2 improves upon on protosounds 1 on? I have 1 engine with ps2 and don't notice much difference between protosounds 1 and 2. The only benefit I could see is using the remote control(I don't have one) and not having to worry about the battery as much. How hard is it to switch from 1 to 2?

  • MTH sells the full conversion kit on their website, or you can find them at some hobby shops, or on eBay.

  • lol these things are massive

  • The two engines are beutiful. I have an HO version of BigBoy. It is actually 4018 sister engine. My engine is 4019. I post her first run under "BigBoys First Run".

  • I love that whistle. I might put that whistle in my B&O.

  • they need to get smoke fluid added after about four or five times around the loop.

  • thats awesome, How often do you refuel the steam tanks?

  • i see what you mean. this video sounds much better

  • On the Multimedia page of my web site, the oldest toy train video shows the double-headed Big Boys when they still had the PS1 electronics. You can compare it to this video, which shows them after the upgrade, to see and hear the major improvement.

  • I'll try but when i tryed a video 1 time it wouldnt work

  • what does "converted to PS2" mean?

  • These two locomotives originally came with "ProtoSounds" which was a sound system combined with an electronic control unit (now called PS1). Some years later, MTH came out with "ProtoSounds 2" which was a much better sound system combined with a full remote control package. I've gutted the PS1 electronics out of these locomotives and replaced it with PS2 which makes them sound a lot better and run a lot better, let alone that I can now run them via remote control.

  • Cool. The big boy locomotive is such an awesome piece of machinery. I have 2 in HO scale, but there not as good as these.

  • thanks i might get one for my layout

  • are the locomotives three rail? because i have a lionel (three railed) set

  • All of the locomotives are three rail and all are MTH.

  • Thats really neat, is that how those would look in real like turning?

  • Yes and no. All the articulated locomotives like the Big Boy had overhang when they took a curve. However, the curves on the real railroad are much gentler than those on model railroads so it wouldn't have been nearly as pronounced as what you see in the video.

  • Thats cool, I thought that overhang was a bit excessive, but none the less that was really neat. If i ever had a model i'd get the big boy in it
