@EpicErinDaSceneChic You do realize your just trying to put on another pointless religion war of "Oh god dosnt exist!" and "God exists!". Just be quiet and listen to the song will ya? Switchfoot is a christian band anyways. And caps. Seriously
If i could I'd ask for this song to be played at my grad. With a slideshow of me and my class little to now at grad. <3 Always gonna be an eagle in me! School changes you in ways you'd never think to expect. Now to go talk to a certain guy........
Today in Soc, the teacher asked who was religious, I didnt raise my hand. Someone asked me why because I talk about Jesus all the time, I told them - I hate religion. I am no where close to crazy religious, however, I am a Jesus Freak.
I just want everyone who sees this to know that god loves you so much, and he thinks you are amazing! He created you with all your gift and talents to bring glory to his name. He's waiting with open arms for you to come to him, just as you are! :)
I don't categorize myself under any one religion, but I must admit that Christian's make some good music. Some of the best concerts I have ever attended were played by Christian singers/bands. So for me instead of thinking of the lyrics in a faith related way, I find ways to orientate them into my life. Works just fine. :)
@ChaiTeaAndPaint I don't mind at all, and I appreciate the way you asked. Instead of calling me out and telling me I was wrong like some people would have. :) To answer your question: No, not really. I wasn't raised in a house where we made all of our decisions based on faith(even though my mom is a Christian), or felt like I had to make someone other than myself happy with my choices. Its just what I've always known.
@ChaiTeaAndPaint But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. - James 1:6
Yes people doubt, but your right. He will feel like he is being tossed by the waves.
@HeyYouYeahYoux3 Yes, there are. But those "grounds" are shaky. I didn't find him, he found me. Sounds cliche, but I have a really cool story about Him.
@Benjamin93swe1 Thanks for subtly trying to persuade everyone to conform to your beliefs! I'm glad there are people out there who accept others religious decisions. ...
@icecreambaby2001 Dude, I know! People say that Christian music is the worst genre of music, out there. I say "oh contrare". Relient K, and Switchfoot, and other christian bands are way more talented than the lame pop artists, like LMFAO, and Kanye West, who use auto-tune, to sound good. It's so stupid!
To the atheist we are all the same biologically then how are we so different mentally. To one man fire is purity, to the other it is destruction, to the other it is hope, and then to the other it is chaos. Why do we all not see the same thing? The author constructs a message of divine love: how can anyone find another message? They may see a message of love but towards what?
i'm not a believer of God, but i still feel like i can connect to all these songs that christian bands like Switchfoot, Skillet, Sidewalk Prophets, etc. write. they are absolutely beautiful. <3
@fayniee51 I agree, they are. The God I and other christians believe in is one who draws. Its just a hunch, but he may be drawing you nearer to him. He did the same with me. I dont wanna bother you too much about it, so I'll leave with that.
@asiankid107 Okay. You have your beliefs and I have mine. There's no need to force yours on me just because I don't think the same as you. I believe that when we die, it's the end. There is no afterlife, no heaven, no hell, nothing. I accept that you believe in hell, and I don't care what happens to me after I die. I just know that I'm going to live my life to the fullest every single day and not worry about the past or future.
@asiankid107 Hey,I'm not trying to start any arguments, but I'm a chritian, and I want other people to follow christ too. But that's never gonna happen if all you tell them about is hell, and how bad of a place it is. Don't force people to become christian just because hell. Instead, tell them about the glory of God, and all of the good things that come with christ :)
@mrpatriots43 The nether O.O And saying you'll go to hevean should probably be the greatest thing that would ever happen to your spirit. Asking god how the univeres was created, who doesn't want that opertunity?!
@asiankid107 Exactly! That's what I was trying to say! It would be more convincing to someone who doesn't believe to hear about a place like heaven instead of a place like hell. And it's ok haha I'm only sixteen
I've been listening to Switchfoot and Superchick, both Christian bands and I liked their songs even though I am an atheist. I simply think they are great musicians and chose to look at the songs in a non-religious way. The way you interpret a song is up to you and shouldn't be limited to a single point of view.
@Norienful I would say that is a little post-modern. If this artist is writing about a rock and you interpret it as about cake, then who is right? Say that in an English class about Shakespeare: "I can interpret it the way I want." However, this is your thought and I do respect that. Just my spin on things...

Love Switchfoot!! i love that they are real all the time and are just being who they are!!! they dont put on a fake Christian Face and try to sale Jesus to us, they just be who they are, and through that show us who Christ is...
This band is so great...I am a recovering alcoholic and addict and this band helps me get through my day and reflect on god and his miracles. I have learned that he works wonders, if you seek him, he will be there for you. There are no boundries and he forgives no matter what or how much you have done. God bless you all.
@zepstar69 True, but according to Ezekiel and the new Testament, He is always there with you. just when you seek him, you will realize he has been there the entire time.
This song makes me cry alot... cause my sister left for collage and she was always out parting doing bad stuff and i miss her. she grew up and changed fast now shes gone. she never even gave my a hug goodbye nor said i love you.
I'm sick of all of you who are scrambling to understand the religion are brothers living in the same world we are people no matter if you're Jewish Buddhist Catholic Christian brothers and all we are all fighting each other we never going to change this beautiful world understand this wonderful world and change we all live in peace
"If you guys like this kind of music make sure you check out 405 - When The World Crashes Down or So Long So Cal. The rest of their stuff is pretty good. Their album "Colors Come Alive" is on iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon and some other places too."
Not religious in the slightest but I'd never criticise a band for writing a song about their beliefs. Switchfoot's religious side doesn't come through strongly in their work, but it's nice to know where the ideas come from, which is important as there's nothing worse than someone trying to force their views down your throat all the time.
I hear they have something new coming out very soon so looking forward to that.
They are Christian. They love God. This song is written about God. Deal with it. The song doesn't make sense without it being about God anyway, so applying it to actual people is a bit odd. I wish all of you skeptics and oppressors to Christianity the best, and I hope each of you finds truth in the Bible and Jesus Christ someday. Doesn't the passion that these Christian bands possess ever make you curious? How could it not!
Love
-me
P.S. - If you blow up on me, my response is, "umadbrah?"
@OnwardPainfully The song doesn't necessarily have to be about God. Switchfoot's work was never meant to be religious, but of course it can be interpreted that way. It all depends on the way you look at the song.
@chileno248 Switchfoot is a contemporary CHRISTIAN band. That is their genre. I have never heard Switchfoot on a radio station except the christian one, except "Meant to Live" , and i heard that one on a local rock station. Their music is meant for God. But they also wanted the audience of non-believers. Hence the contemporary part. Yes other people look at it differently, but it is meant for God.
@thehungerinheroes Well if nobody believed in God, then basically there would be no guidelines on how to live ones life, people would be their own God, and whoose anybody to tell that anybody else whats right or whats wrong,- the world would be X100 more crazy- God exists - and if you believe in life after death...then you should accept the Lord Jesus as your redeemer so that you won't need to be seperated from God someday. He took your punishment of sin, what you believe in defines who you are.
@ASKBELLA1 That is just the worst argument. Religion and the way people live their lives have always been intertwined. IT is a fallacy to think that this is because of religion. Religion is a result of peoples evolution not the other way around. And how about other religions not believing in god - are they then lost?
i had no idea this band was like...religious? but i still like it even though i am not a christian. i don't think it matters. Paramore is a christian band. Still like them...see i don't think it matters what the band is and what you are.
With everything you do and say every day of your life, the way you spend your time, your money, your energy and the way you treat people, you show what you believe. I couldn’t care less about what you’re singing about. I would much rather see people treated with human dignity and love and compassion. This feels like the closest we’ll come to being a Christian band -- switchfoot
"Hallelujah, I'm cavin in, Hallelujah, I'm in love again, Hallelujah, I'm a wretched man, Hallelujah, Every breath is a second chance". I almost cry every time I hear that bridge. Such a powerful line. I'm always yours Jesus!
When I heard this song, I never even considered it might be about religion. I saw it more as a parent talking to their child throughout their life. That doesn't mean I'm right or wrong. I just interpreted it differently.

"These are the scars deep in your heart
This is the place you were born
And this is the hole where most of your soul comes ripping out
From the places you've been torn"
No matter what our views, opinions, beliefs, pasts, mistakes, accomplishments, etc... We must remember.. We are ALWAYS His.
savannahmckinney 7 months ago
@savannahmckinney I think that, that stanza shows like a metamorphosis of yourself to a better being

I'm tired of religious fights. Come on, just listen the song and stop to criticize everyone.

P.S. - If you blow up on me, my response is, "umadbrah?"
OnwardPainfully 7 months ago 12
@OnwardPainfully The song doesn't necessarily have to be about God. Switchfoot's work was never meant to be religious, but of course it can be interpreted that way. It all depends on the way you look at the song.

@chileno248 i think i heard hallelujah... and if a friend comes to me and tell me
'This is the start
This is your heart
This is the day you were born"
i'll creep out...
but if Jesus told me this...
:D
anyways let's enjoy the song
MrRandomppl 6 months ago

ASKBELLA1 8 months ago
@ASKBELLA1 That is just the worst argument. Religion and the way people live their lives have always been intertwined. IT is a fallacy to think that this is because of religion. Religion is a result of peoples evolution not the other way around. And how about other religions not believing in god - are they then lost?

Why is Katy Perry's "Firework" in the video suggestions? :/

i had no idea this band was like...religious? but i still like it even though i am not a christian. i don't think it matters.

(I hadn't heard the 'hallelujah' verse when I heard it before. Just as an extension to my comment.)
imissrose123 8 months ago
When I heard this song, I never even considered it might be about religion. I saw it more as a parent talking to their child throughout their life. That doesn't mean I'm right or wrong. I just interpreted it differently.
imissrose123 8 months ago
Idk why everybody is posting about god and jesus here. Music means something different to everybody and that's what makes it special and beautiful.

@patman173 Christian band my dude.
Mat8meout 9 months ago
@Mat8meout So? Music is open for interpretation that's why before every song an artist doesn't say "this song is about..."
patman173 9 months ago
@patman173
there was time when people said "rock and roll is the work of the Satan".
Beautiful music makes people feel good and when you feel good you believe everything you hear.
I like Switchfoot's "Sound" I wish I wrote that piece of music.
Not into heySus or Islam,I have been accused of Buddhism- My beer gut isn't that big.
