@LIVINGONTHEDOLE Don't like Khan but the guy is obviously fighting everyone and anyone, he will never have the same backing as Naseem had but I can more than show respect for a guy who is always fighting in American he does have my respect although I think a few of his recent fights are a tad dodgy but fair play to him, he's by far better than Timothy Bradley and in a rematch I may eat my words but I think Khan will destroy Lamont.
Jones Jr may have been passed it. So was Joe... that's why he retired after it. Calzaghe wanted to fight Jones a decade ago... unfortunately Calzaghe wasn't well known enough then so there was not enough money in it for Jones Jr which is why HE avoided Joe... because he was a virtually unknown risk. Its a business. Joe Calzaghe IS one of the best brittish boxers ever. Probably THE best. Ask any true expert (EVEN THE AMERICAN ONES) and they will agree with it... because it's true.
@sexysiralex Huge fucking difference between Calzaghe-Hopkins and Lewis-Holyfield I. Lewis had clearly won by a country mile and anyone who can see, knew he did.
Calzaghe and Hopkins fight was close, real close. Could of gone either way. I think Hopkins did himself no favours with the judges by laying down on the canvas pretending to be hurt for nearly 5 minutes when Calzaghe started to put the pressure on. Hopkins had no one to blame but himself.
and for everyone who is up his bum you get real he is fake lots of money involved and desperate people if you knew the real sport youll no it isnt all fair deals fuck you lol
You guys need to get real. Calzaghe won a world title boxing with his dad (who had never boxed before) in a shed with broomsticks and carpets. Put it into perspective... If you can't appreciate what this man has achieved then I feel sorry for you.
Well said. His father was a street performer, no boxing knowledge and made a undisputed WORLD champion in 2 separate weight classes. The odds of that happening are so slim.
@sexysiralex difference of opinions. boxing is a subjective sport. people interpret it differently and the people who matter scored it to joe. that's what matters. lennox lewis should have beaten holyfield the 1st time but OFFICIALLY he didnt. joe calzaghe retired undefeated and with his legacy secure. enough said
@sexysiralex "i think he's there for the taking joe"....thats what enzo calzaghe said. its too motivate joe to finish strong. what would you have said "take it easy your miles ahead". every round counted you idiot so the calzaghe team wanted to make sure joe kept the pressure on
He is definitely not the greatest british boxer. Boxing fans of this era are being stupid, who did Calaghe beat? Lacy, Kessler? Calzaghe was never respected in America, no boxing expect rates him, not even in the top 100. He beat a 39 year old Roy Jones by unanimous decision. In the next couple of fights Roy Jones got knocked out in round 1. He beat a 43 year old Hopkins by Split Decision. Calzaghe ducked a rematch. He ducked an undefeated Chad Dawson.
@username7212345 He was 36 when he beat a 39 year old Jones, so don't try to play like he was a young man beating an old man. And he was 36 when he fought Hopkins too so what point are you trying to make? You ain't talking about a 26yo who made a name for himself beating older guys. Calzaghe was a seasoned veteran on his way to retirement when he fought and beat both of them... and the excuse for Hopkins being washed up at the time seems to have been proven to be bullshit, huh?
@username7212345 (cont) Kessler's a solid boxer who looked retarded against Calzaghe. Lacey was walking through EVERYBODY in America until Calzaghe dismantled him, piece by piece, so thoroughly that it ruined his career! I remember it clearly; I had Lacey to win because "Who the fuck is this Calzaghe character?" You may want to dismiss Lacey after the fact, but that's a weak fucking argument. The only reason you won't give Joe Calzaghe his due respect is because you're a racist, plain as day.
@username7212345 Slaps that knocked quite a few fighters down. Not bad for 'slaps'. He destroyed Lacey and retired undefeated after one of the longest reigns as world champ. To say Calzaghe is not respected in the USA is rubbish as The Ring had him in their P4P top ten for years.
@username7212345 Hopkins is currently rated no 1 in his division, so i think despite his age, that win still counts for something. Plus, Calazaghe was no spring chicken during those later bouts either.
@username7212345 so cut and dried wjem you leave out the fact that both prime jones and taylor and hopkins all declined offers to fight calzaghe. he was avoided but did not help his case by choosing to fight in europe. to sauy he is not respec
then again, i briefly forgot... hgh holyfield. nevermind. he should be out of the discussion entirely. (and to lennox's credit he did beat them both, he's just not my favorite)
@adams221191 no doubt, this cat aboce you actually thinks lennox lewis is better than the mighty atom!!! shit, its actually a rough lot for lennox lewis... he's not the best british "lewis" who was a boxer... nor the greatest heavyweight named "louis"..., and he's no doubt behind (both in terms of reign and talent) to his two contemporary rivals Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield (although he, by way of a late start, stayed fresh later)
@uglybabashouse2 how is he? he never lost, fought the best opponents out there for him, and got out on top. more exciting than lennox was too. i dont wanna slag lewis off but to be a true all round great you gotta excite the fans in my opinion, and joe did that
@oasis4ever92 He didn't fight the best! The big names he fought he fought when they were far from their best (Jones, Eubank) I'm not gonna say Hopkins, he just gets better with age, and where was Calzaghe when Jones and Hopkins etc. were young? He never left the UK. While Lennox Lewis fought top guys all the time, (Briggs, Bruno, Holyfield, Klitschko) he faced defeat, sure. All the fights he lost he avenged with brilliance. just because he was smart in the ring doesn't mean he was not excititing
@uglybabashouse2 where was calzaghe when hopkins and jones were young? well he fought hopkins in his prime! probably one of the best fighters in modern times and joe beat him. believe me joe wanted to be fighting in the states earlier but frank warren didnt allow it. then he went over and beat the main men. kessler, hopkins, lacy (i dont rate lacy now but at the time the yanks were saying he'll be the next big thing!)...so trust me joe calzaghe is one of our best fighters
@oasis4ever92 I wouldn't call that a prime Hopkins, Jermain Taylor beat a prime Hopkins. And you're right about him being one of the best but to ever say he's better than Lennox Lewis is simply wrong. Lennox Lewis is in allmost every experts top 10 heavyweights ever and very often in the top 5. He is allways ranked high in the alltime P4P lists, not very often you see Calzaghe up there. And if it's Warrens fault he didn't fight in the US then so be it. Because the real competition were in the US
@uglybabashouse2 And Lennox Lewis resume is one of the best ever in the heavyweight division. He got more big names in there than joe had fights in the US, no offence but to me Joe Calzaghe is FAR behind.
i think so aswell mate, hes obviously still training, you can c that by the fact hes still the same size as he was when he was fighting, and any pro,no matter what sport, puts their feet up when they have retired for good, also joe is getting bored, and unless he finds a cure for it,he will b back in the ring, and i think he will take on and beat the winner of the super middle contest, unless kessler wins it,joe will only come back for a fresh challenge,i hope its froch,so joe can shut the prick up,

RJJ only 2 years older coming off a win of tito trinidad = destroyed
BHOP = holding and fouling all night, still lost, and still a champion RIGHT NOW
Kessler = steam rolled, still a top 10 SMW in 2012
Eubank = one of the best MW's to come out of the UK, destroyed

Jones was washed up when he hit 31.
Calzaghe never quite became washed up but was not too far off.
People have different peaks. 90's Jones destroys 2000's Calzaghe. Fact.
