Actually, starting Sasha over Ron isn't a bad thing. Balancing out your first five and your bench players is actually a good strategy if you get what I mean.
If the bench players only know how to play off the bench, they'll never have as much experience on the court as playing as the first five.
Another thing is, letting bench players start will give a TREMENDOUS boost to their confidence and their ability to adept to their strong players (Kobe, Gasol).
Sasha was unproductive because he wasn`t asked to do anything in the playoffs. The benchs shrink and he`s as good as you get for the price the Lakers have to pay for teir 12th or 13th player. During the regular season he is a fine contributor and Adam Morrison looks like he`s doing something in Vegas so he might be the Lakers "shooter" off the bench

It also allows you to have players that aren`t paid as much money to fill spots. In a salary cap era you can`t have 12 max contracts. In a real practice situation drills are much more intense, they just bored for sure because they doing the drill way to lazily. dont argue back, I'm much more advanced into basket right now than you can even dream to be.
