I feel the need to defend this dance because I belly dance and I don't like when some people assume it all sexual. It really is sad that Arab countries frown upon it, Islam is a beautiful religion but I feel that many Muslims are stuck in their traditional ways and can't adapt to other cultures. I respect the religion very much but it's hard to respect some Muslim men because of how they view women. I hope Americans and Muslims can understand each other one day Inshallah.
@josieocal016 its not a muslim thing its an arabic dance..... a long time ago it wasnt meant to be sexy or watever it was invented for women who were pregnanat.........the movement of the hips helped so when they delviered it would be an easy delivery.... nowadays people have turned it into a sexual bad thing
hey, love your perfomance! I want to know how it was for you dancing there? Knowing turkish culture very well i think your performance was too classy for Istanbul night club=) you should show your knowledge somewhere where one could really respect it=) you know what i mean?=))
Your sentences show your knowledges about Turkish Culture...Bellydance and Oriental Dances are the main parts of our culture. Where can she dance for more respect out of Turkey? What a stupidity!! if you want to see a real Belly dancer, watch the videos of " Didem ". She is the master.
dear pancock, i'm married to turkish guy so don't lecture me about turkish culture. Didem is by far the best turkish dancer ever, but dancers in this country are not respected at all, it's sad beacuse bellydance IS the part of their culture. I'm not going to go further on that.... no one wants their wife to be a dancer! I heard didem got married.... and no new videos of her. Hope she's gonna come back and dance. If her husband will allow her. cheers
Yes, Noone wants their wife to be a dancer.Because it's a sexy dance. There is not interest between being Turkish or respect. You can't see her new videos because her show program has not issued. If people have not respect to bellydancers, why most of show programs have bellydancers? why most rating programs show bellydancers? Your comment is a paradox,I think.
@pancock1987 to answer your question, because Arab culture is a paradox on this aspect. It is sad but she is right. No one wants to see her daughter or wife or sister as a belly dancer. Society has no respect for belly dancers. It is sad.
@josieocal016 I may not explain that clear. Some Muslims (not all) have not respect for belly dancer woman, period. I am not attacking a religion that I respect, but some mentalities. As you said belly dancing is a respect art form in must parts of the world but not in Arabs countries. I know exactly what I am talking about believe me. For example, in Egypt, Mahammud Reda is greatly respected but he use to dance folkloric not belly dancing. Anyway, i respect your comment and ideas. Ma'a Salama.
This is one of the best dancers I've seen at Sultana's. They are very hit or miss. Some are truly awful!

@228suhaila WRONG. A muslim wouldn't chose to dance but it is a respected art form in must parts of the worlds.
