Jerry Lee Lewis was the original Punk, before punk was even classified. I would even put Johnny Cash in that Category. Its not the music its the ATTITUDE. In Jerry Lee's case it was both, he was a WILD MAN! on and off the stage and his antics were unmatched at the time, even shocking. Punk today has morphed and there were many pioneers along the way who put their DNA into it even the Beatles with Helter Skelter. The Ramones were HUGE but before them there was The Dictators, musically better.
it pisses me off that all my friends say the who had no effect on what would become punk. the influence is so obvious, especially when you hear the father of punk singing a who song.
OMG! I dare say The Who were the original punks if you don`t want to put Jerry Lee Lewis in that cat. Moon The Loon being the biggest punk poster with his antics. Sex Pistols covered several of their songs. Without the Who, there would not be punk as we "knew" it.
@oldphoque Once I saw this interview with Johnny claiming he saw the Who around 10 or 20 times, I don't remember, so, I guess you say nothing but truth.
this version of the whos - the kids are alright is................love it/R.I.P. Joey Ramone

Wasn't "My Generation" the first punk song ever?
Look at its structure and lyrics. And it was written in 1964.
Plus i think (but i might be wrong) that the Who were the first to use fifth chords regularly while playing.
sfrenogildo 3 years ago 9
yep. they really revolutionized music far more than people give them credit for.
GNRrockslife 3 years ago 4
It was written in 1965.

@sfrenogildo i think what you call 5th chords are actually called power chords lol but yeah i think so too
ColtyRamone 1 year ago
@ColtyRamone Yeah, they're the same thing. It just means the chord doesn't have a 3rd interval
